Lakers interested in Michael Beasley?

Are the Lakers looking at Beasley? (Getty Images)

The idea is that at some point, Michael Beasley will find himself in the perfect situation. He'll have the right support system, the right teammates, the right system and as a result, he finally realize some of the talent he has. Because the guy has got talent. Loads of it. It's why he was drafted second overall and why the Timberwolves were more than happy to welcome him despite not really having a good spot for him.

It hasn't exactly worked out with Minnesota and with the Wolves drafting Derrick Williams, Beasley just doesn't really have a place.

Then there are the Lakers, a team trying to make a deal to salvage a makeshift roster. Perfect marriage for a deal, right? Well, the Lakers like Beasley, according to ESPN.com:
The Lakers' front office knows Kobe Bryant is looking for it to improve the roster, and GM Mitch Kupchak has been working the phones. He's spoken to Minnesota about Michael Beasley, and sources say the Lakers are intrigued by the Timberwolves' small forward. The Lakers were actually in discussions with Minnesota about a potential trade for Beasley before the season started. If they would have been able to pull off the deal for Chris Paul, there is a good chance that a trade for Beasley would have followed.

It's not clear what the Lakers would give Minnesota for Beasley (if indeed the talks get that far), but the Lakers could absorb Beasley into their $8.9 million trade exception while giving up a draft pick or cash. I'm told the teams have not spoken about Pau Gasol since the preseason. Minnesota is looking to move Beasley, who they feel has matured very little (if at all) since he's been there, according to sources. The Lakers believe they can handle a player like Beasley because of their winning culture and the leadership of Bryant.
The Lakers need more help than just Beasley, but like I said, the guy is just dying for that right place. Rasheed Wallace finally found it with the Pistons and look what happened. Beasley has serious ability. It's just got to click for him.

According to the report, the Lakers are also looking at acquiring a point guard, a position that needs a lot of help. They worked out Gilbert Arenas last week, but evidently haven't made a decision there yet. There are other point guards on the market like Ramon Sessions and the report says the Lakers might be able to grab Sessions for a first round pick.

I think the deals are coming for the Lakers. Maybe not a blockbuster involving Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum, but something. That trade exception is just sitting there and it's hard to believe they truly gave up Lamar Odom to a Western contender for basically nothing.

I like Beasley with the Lakers too. I think it's a fit. He can forget about trying to carry a bad team for once and concentrate on his strengths. He can fit in alongside Kobe and Gasol and let those guys lead the way while he follows. It might take a bit of an attitude adjustment from him realizing maybe he's not going to score 20 points a game, but if he's willing, he still has a lot of bright years ahead of him.

Lakers interested in Michael Beasley?

As a Laker fan. I dont really see Beasley a huge upgrade from Artest or Matt Barnes.
As a basketball fan, I can't believe anyone who watches the game would think this.

I guess the only memory Lakers fans have of Beasley is Bynum cheap-shotting him in his warm-up for Barea.

I mean Minny got him basically for free from Miami when they were clearing cap space. Now with the logjam at Forward, I would assume they woulda wanna pay him much. A first rounder in the 20s or even a 2nd rounder seems fair if they have him in the long-term plans.

This makes no sense at all.  It's irrelevant what they gave up to get him.  It's irrelevant how he fits into their long-term plans.  What's relevant is he's under contract and an asset that apparently some teams would want.  They don't give him up for a second rounder for no reason when they can get more for him.

BTW, if Gasol and Bynum are going to mask Beasley's defensive liabilities, it would probably help if either one of them was more than an average defender.

I agree getting Beasley for next to nothing would help the Lakers some.  But that doesn't explain why Minnesota would gift-wrap him.

now why would i be a lebron fan?  kevin love will get title before la bump. lebron is the speed bump for miami. he will never win.  wolves have all the pieces now except guard.  if you want beasely you can have him, we have williams. we will take your trash for thirty games that we can just spit out and use to go get our guard.  lakers are not good, bad coach, no chemistry, your front office is a mess, kobe is a selfish player.  we are only two games behind your beloved lakers, and getting better even with beasely playing limited minutes.  again, we dont to give the lakers anything.

Lakers interested in Michael Beasley?

I watched Beasley for 2 years in Miami. He can put points up but thats it. He is a huge defensive liability and he can be a headcase at times. If the Lakers think Beasley is going ease tensions in LA, they are nuts.

Even with all these turmoil, new coach, new system, No Lamar Odom and all these trade talks and we are still doing OK, Not great but OK in need of a couple of tweaks here and there. Kobe in his 16 season will be better that Lebron in his 16 season. Maybe Lebron will not even have his 1st ring after 16 seasons unless he learns to be a winner like Kobe.

    Twinsfan.

Garbage is Minnesota and the twins dude. Everybody wants to play with Kobe because all he does is win. Unless your boy Lebron who even playing with Wade could not get it done. Don't be bitter for all we care.

Lakers interested in Michael Beasley?

i find funny watching the lakers in a mess. this team is garbage, and in a mess, lol. sessions?  seriously.......he played for the wolves once and he was terrible. he is a shootfirst pg.  all lakers have is kobe, bynum, gasol.  they stink, and not even the nba will help them. kobe wont get his sixth ring. sorry to say. who wants to play with kobe? who shoots too much and wont give up his shots make the better. kobe is just another me first player. lakers could trade kobe and build for the future for all care.

first off, the wolves dont need to trade period.  beasely is an inconsistant player who is having trouble scoring and staying the starting lineup.  that said, the wolves dont need gasol or bynum, and kobe is untouchable. the wolves need a shooting guard. getting rid of beasely solves up two criterias. first it dumps salary by perhaps getting a couple draft picks, and second, they can then use them or other pieces to go out and trade for a shooting guard. thirdly, the wolves would insert derrick williams in that spot where he could blossom in to a decent small forward.  the lakers will have to give the wolves what the wolves want. so wolves hold all the power here. wolves do not need to trade. we could settle and offe boston lesser players for the chance for ray allen for short term making our playoff run, which the wolves have seriously considered doing. then we let allen walk as a free agent and go out and sign a guard like gordon, mayo, etc. so the lakers are up against a wall here. wolves are way better team than lakers. and we are not forced to trade.  although, wolves are better team without beasely right now. so as a wolves fan, i can see them sending him away for draft picks.  go wolves.

Beasley is a scorer, and would have Gasol and Bynum to mask his defensive liabilities. I say the Lakers do it. At least they get something from that trade exception from losing Odom.
