Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has been named as an injury replacement for the Eastern Conference All-Star team, according to the Boston Globe and Celtics Radio. The NBA confirmed the selection on Wednesday afternoon.

Rondo will replace Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson, who was diagnosed with tendinitis in his left knee and is sitting out two games this week, in this Sunday's All-Star Game at Amway Center in Orlando.

He will join an Eastern Conference roster that includes starters Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard, plus reserves Chris Bosh, Roy Hibbert, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams, Luol Deng and Andre Iguodala.

Johnson is the game's first and only injury scratch so far.

Rondo, 26, is averaging 14.8 points, 9.5 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 37.0 minutes per game. He's played in just 22 games this season though, which is what led to his snubbing in the first place. This will be Rondo's third consecutive All-Star appearance.

Earlier this week, Rondo was suspended two games for throwing a basketball at an official, which earned him an ejection.

According to the Associated Press, Celtics coach Doc Rivers joked: "When you get named to the All-star, you should take one game of suspension away."

BRAVO!!!!  Rondo was the ONLY logical choice to replace Joe Johnson.  I have to admit his teammate Josh Smith would have been 2nd on my list.

Despite the writers' wanting Lin in the All-Star game, Rondo is the correct choice for Joe Johnson's replacement. Lin is in the right game, "The Rising Stars", as he has only been a key factor in 10 games now. Lin has been o nthree teams now, and finally got the chance to show what he can do. The jury is still out on his future, especially now that Melo is back. I wish him the very best, but an All-Star is more than a few games. If that were so, then the MVP should be given in the same accordance.

If Jeremy Lin made the all star team, that would completely kill the momentum and more people would start hating him for all the wrong reasons.  thank god david stern didn't do something ridiculous this time.

I really hope that Rondo, out of amusement, chucks the ball at one of the refs again in the all star game and aims a bit lower and then gives him a wet willy afterward.  these refs are ridiculous.

SERIOUSLY.  I am a Bulls fan so I have a tendency to hate on Rondo sometimes, but he deserved to be an all star this year.  Lin shows a lot of  promise but show it to me for a season and we'll talk.  Lots of good PGs in the East with Rose and D-Will, but Rondo deserves to be on the team with them.

Thank God it isn't Jeremy Lin, though I'm surprised Satan...I mean David Stern didn't pull some strings though.
