Ben & Jerry's, the ice cream maker known for its catch flavor names, has issued an apology for selling Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt containing fortune cookies at a Harvard Square location in Boston, the New York Daily News reported.

The limited-edition flavor, "Taste The Lin-sanity," contained crumbled fortune cookies before backlash resulted because of the racial overtones from using fortune cookies as part of the promotion.

"We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-sanity flavor," Ben & Jerry's said in a statement.

The New England manufacturer replaced fortune cookies in its honey-swirl based Lin-inspired flavor with waffle cones.

"We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans," Ben & Jerry's said in the news release. "Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin's accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. "We try [to] demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance we offer our sincere apologies."

The former Harvard star has caused a league- and nationwide sensation as a result of his meteoric rise to stardom as the Knicks' point guard.

If Lin was playing for the Kings or the Hornets, nobody would notice.
Knicks basketball was so brain-dead that Frankenstein's monster would get them all excited.

On second thought, I am 1/2 Italian as well and the Subway ITALIAN Sub offends me too!! I demand they apologize as well.

See how stupid this sounds?

This two bit hack is nothing but the flavor of the month. Pun intended. He will fade away soon. Or we can hope..

You have ignorance in bundles.  This is akin to having a Ben and Jerry's Flavor named after Derrick Rose and having watermelon chunks throughout.
OK, I'm missing something here. Why is that offensive? That sounds like a good flavor of ice cream.

Actually fortune cookies were invented in America.  They're less a part of China than here.. which granted makes it even less offensive but educate yourself.

Ben & Jerry's apologizes for Lin fortune cookies

The public has a distorted perception of racism. Who cares if they use fortune cookies? Fortune cookies are a part of China. As a group Asians are shorter than Caucasians, the Japanese are smarter than the Caucasians. Black people make better basketball and football players, white people are more business saavy and are better at tennis. Africa is full of poor countries and some of the best wildlife in the world, Americans no longer know how to read a paper map. We all get all of this. To ignore it is to not recognize it and to not recognize it is to show a degree of partiality. Will the Irish soon be the only ones who are allowed to celebrate St. Patricks day? Now I can understand that it would be offensive if a heckler asked Lin if he brought his fortune cookies with him to the game but that's different.

Ben & Jerry's apologizes for Lin fortune cookies

As STUPID and Brash as P Diddy may be - he does NOT control an institution!!!
Thereby Mr. P Diddy cannot be a Racist. He is stupid, arrogant and may be Prejudiced!!!
Racism is institutional and is perpetuated primarily by institutional culture.
I don't believe Ben & Jerry's promotion was Racist either just stupid and insensitive.
What's even more Stupid is how adults an their children worship mere athletes!!!

Ben & Jerry's apologizes for Lin fortune cookies

Every day I deal with people. Could care less about color. I coach basketball for young men and women from 3rd grade to HS seniors. And I am totally against all the PC stuff. My Mom and Dad always taught me, BE SMART and BE GOOD! Do the best you can with what you are given in any circumstance.

I wouldn't know how to act different based on color, religion, looks, whatever because it NEVER ENTERED MY MIND TO BE MEAN TO PEOPLE!

Thank you Mom and Dad and Sister and Brothers!

Love watching basketball regardless of age. Think Mr. Lin is doing great for the league and his team.

I wish someone with enough basketBALLS would come out and say we are HAPPY FOR SO and SO's achievement and we are HONORING THEM with this flavor. If Mr. Lin takes offense, he can tell them. I would think he thinks it is cool but I can't speak for him. I am white and if I ever dunked or won a championship and Ritz put out a special cracker for me, I'd laugh my arse off and LOVE IT!

Aren't we all supposed to work as ONE for the benefit of ALL? It is NOT Lin winning those games. It IS a TEAM EFFORT and I think Mr. Lin would agree to that.

God Bless Us All!

complete insanity.  We can be subjected to P Diddy screaming "black power" at the all star game but do anything against a minority group and it is always racist.  Can you imagine if a white man stood up and said "white power"?  As long as their is hypocrisy, the is no such thing as racism.
