Ben & Jerry's, the ice cream maker known for its catch flavor names, has issued an apology for selling Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt containing fortune cookies at a Harvard Square location in Boston, the New York Daily News reported.

The limited-edition flavor, "Taste The Lin-sanity," contained crumbled fortune cookies before backlash resulted because of the racial overtones from using fortune cookies as part of the promotion.

"We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-sanity flavor," Ben & Jerry's said in a statement.

The New England manufacturer replaced fortune cookies in its honey-swirl based Lin-inspired flavor with waffle cones.

"We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans," Ben & Jerry's said in the news release. "Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin's accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. "We try [to] demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance we offer our sincere apologies."

The former Harvard star has caused a league- and nationwide sensation as a result of his meteoric rise to stardom as the Knicks' point guard.

Enough already with the racial backlash, this is America and as such we are multi cutural.  If I want to make a racist comment I am allowed to.  I am tired of everyone being overly sensitive.  STEROTYPES are STEROTYPES for a reason.  black athletes dominate basketball Asians dominate math and science fields, hispanics dominate baseball, and whites dominate everything else so when you have a Asian burst on the scene like this it is a big deal, just as it was a big deal when Jackie Robinson came to baseball.

As last weeks SNL Skit showed it is o to make fun and racist jokes at all other types but blacks, when did this become acceptable

I think this is a colossal overreaction.  I'm more curious to know whether they're "honoring him" with any of the profits. maybe donating them to a worthy charity of his his choice, or simply cashing in like a couple of old, fat, ice cream-making pole dancers.

I am getting tired of these issues continually arising out of nowhere.  Who are these people who are complaining?  We are a catch phrase based society here in North America.  Whit and humour are part of everyday conversation.  Was Jeremy Lin offended when asked if they could use his moniker for the ice cream flavour.  Where are the freedoms going?  We are continually backing ourselves into a corner here in North America that is going to backfire one day.  This should not even be considered an issue for debate.

I just find it funny that oh-so-intolerant liberals like Brn and Jerry's show they are racists too. What's next? Lebron ice cream with watermelon chunks?

This is why I just play it safe with the philosophy: "I'm not racist, I hate everyone!!".

So when exactly do the people or person who is "being racially insulted", get to make their own decision if content offends them or not?!? Shouldn't Jeremy Lin decide if he feels racially insulted?!? I mean the flavor is "Taste The Lin-sanity", not "Taste The Asian".

That "picnic" flavor was pretty good though.

People need to get over themselves and stop being so racially sensitive. Let's not be color blind here. Rather, take notice of the things that make us different. Races are different and sometimes it's fun to celebrate these differences by poking fun at them. It's all in good fun.
