Ben & Jerry's, the ice cream maker known for its catch flavor names, has issued an apology for selling Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt containing fortune cookies at a Harvard Square location in Boston, the New York Daily News reported.

The limited-edition flavor, "Taste The Lin-sanity," contained crumbled fortune cookies before backlash resulted because of the racial overtones from using fortune cookies as part of the promotion.

"We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-sanity flavor," Ben & Jerry's said in a statement.

The New England manufacturer replaced fortune cookies in its honey-swirl based Lin-inspired flavor with waffle cones.

"We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans," Ben & Jerry's said in the news release. "Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin's accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. "We try [to] demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance we offer our sincere apologies."

The former Harvard star has caused a league- and nationwide sensation as a result of his meteoric rise to stardom as the Knicks' point guard.

Ben & Jerry's apologizes for Lin fortune cookies

We as a society are still extremely racist and hateful, it's just we pick and choose which races are "okay" to insult at the time. During WWII it was okay to insult East Asians. Before and after that it was mostly Blacks that we were mocking. Up until 9/11 it was Mexican jokes. And post-9/11 it's been Islam jokes.

Call me a little behind the times, but I still like the Mexican jokes more than the Islam ones.

If anything, this is paying deference to the Chinese tradition of fortune cookies! How is this racist in any way!? I'm an Ohio State Univeristy Law School Grad, and if ever got famous (as unlikely as that is) this would be the same as Ben and Jerry's putting Buckeye swirls in an ice cream named after me. Jerermy Lin is Chinese, fortune cookies are Chinese. Ben and Jerry's was CELEBRATING and HONORING Jeremy Lin. Absolutely ridiculous.

Ben & Jerry's apologizes for Lin fortune cookies

This country has officially become pathetic. You can longer do or say anything without someone pretending that they are offended. All this fake this is not politically Incorrectness has to stop. The media constantly looking for these stories is so sad. Just another link in the weakening of our wonderful what used to be free country.
The irony is that people who say this when it has something to do with a minority are always the first to claim white people, especially white males, are oppressed in our society and come up with a dozen whiny reasons.

PC was always a majority thing. There are enough Asians. homosexuals and Whites that whenever those groups are insulted or perceived insulted in some way everyone whines.

But I see a TON of Black, Mexican and Islam/Middle-Eastern jokes all the time that never get stopped due to PC.

I wonder which race will get it after the next big event.

I believe some honey bees are also protesting the use of honey in the Linsanity ice cream flavor.  A Bee representative stated that, "We are not a crazy insect.  We sting for a reason!"  The reepresentative also touted the benefits of honey when used in the bedroom, in the right places.

It is not racial overtones....it is stereotyping.  But put in the R word for more attention to this piece.

more stupid, banal political correctness. stupidity masquerading as serious offense.

however, since Ben and Jerry's tends to support this political correctness which wallows in the buffoonish attitude that every perceived offense must be stopped ....it is rather comical.
