The Lakers announced Sunday that Kobe Bryant suffered a nasal fracture during the All-Star game after a foul from Dwyane Wade. The Lakers say that Bryant will be re-evaluated Monday by an ear, nose, and throat specialist and is expected to resume practice Tuesday, according to the Orange County Register

Update: Yahoo Sports reports that Bryant also sustained a "mild concussion" on the play. If so, Bryant will be subject to the NBA's new concussion policy, which requires league approval for him to return to the court.

Here's video of the play from Wade in the third quarter which resulted in the broken schnoz:

Clearly a purposeful foul in an All-Star game, which isn't going to endear Wade to Lakers fans. Bryant stayed in the game and passed Michael Jordan for all-time leader in points scored in the All-Star Game. Wade also famously was involved in the injury to Rajon Rondo in last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Bryant was suffering from headaches after the game, which lead to him missing media availability after the game.

Breaking: Kobe suffers nasal fracture

Haha no surprise BK agrees with the Celts guy. I bet if it was Wade getting fouled like that by Kobe he would be crying. No doubt at all. Its the All Star game, no need for that crap.

I dont think is was thuggish or was thought out, but it was over the top. When a guy beats u and is under the basket going up for a dunk and ur arms are coming down to stop him something could happen and it did. As I said before, I dont think he intended to break his nose or hurt him bad, but his pride was hurt when he got beat so he did something that would be normal in a regular season game, but way too far in an exibition all star game. On Espn this morning they reported that Wade said Kobe fouled him pretty hard a few times so he wanted to return the favor. Kobe had 2 fouls in the game, none from fouling Wade...They were probably going at it a bit and things went a little south. Stuff happens, but I thought is was unnecessary regardless of who the player was.

Absolutely no reason for this to happen in an all-star game. Yeah, it was just a hard foul, but people don't go to an all-star game to watch superstars shoot free throws.

No, SCPB is right here.  I wouldn't go into the 3 paragraphs worth of mocking him, and I have nothing against Kobe like he evidently does.   I think Bryant is one of the 10 greatest players of all time.

But Wade wrapped him up under the basket and Kobe's nose got (as properly put) "barely clipped."  This wasn't even a "playoff foul."  It was a normal layup-prevent foul with utterly no intent and nothing controversial.  Doug Collins was correct that, after 35 minutes of neither team playing any defense, Kobe might have been surprised to have Wade hack him with both arms.  But look at the slo-mo replay--is he really chopping his arms downward, or aiming for Bryant's face, or does it look like he has calculated his moment to intentionally injure someone?

Maybe All-Star games should mandate that no one is allowed to foul (like they do in the Pro Bowl).  But calling this play "thuggish" or comparing it to an injury suffered in the midst of legitimate playoff intensity is ridiculous.

I can see SCPB is up to his loving again.  if doesn't involve Boston or New England it's pure "hate". Lol SCPB, use to think you had some class.

Still hurting from the superbowl loss.

Don't know why this surprises anyone, Wade's been a punk for years now.

lol leave it to a celts fan to down play it. I bet if that was Rondo or Pierce you would be crying. It was a bit uncalled for considering the platform of the game. I dont think they will fine, him, but the Lakers have a game coming up against the Heat, maybe one at the head to teach him a lesson....
