Kobe suffers nasal fracture, mild concussion

The Lakers announced Sunday that Kobe Bryant suffered a nasal fracture during the All-Star game after a foul from Dwyane Wade. The Lakers say that Bryant will be re-evaluated Monday by an ear, nose, and throat specialist and is expected to resume practice Tuesday, according to the Orange County Register

Update: Yahoo Sports reports that Bryant also sustained a "mild concussion" on the play. If so, Bryant will be subject to the NBA's new concussion policy, which requires league approval for him to return to the court.

Here's video of the play from Wade in the third quarter which resulted in the broken schnoz:

Clearly a purposeful foul in an All-Star game, which isn't going to endear Wade to Lakers fans. Bryant stayed in the game and passed Michael Jordan for all-time leader in points scored in the All-Star Game. Wade also famously was involved in the injury to Rajon Rondo in last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Bryant was suffering from headaches after the game, which lead to him missing media availability after the game.

While I think the All Star game is futile and boring, I recognize that that is my opinion. I like to watch basketball and sports in general for the competition. The all star game doesn't have any. However, all the games stars are together in one game and if you pay any attention to it at all, they're having a blast together. It's a good opportunity for players to relate and play a good game of basketball without all the pressure of a regular season/playoff game.

I think Wade and probably some of the other Eastern Conference stars knew where Kobe was in terms of the Jordan countdown. I think Wade hard-fouled Kobe because he did not want to be posterized and remembered as the bucket on which Kobe took the All-Star Game scoring lead from Jordan. Instead, with the foul, the poster is of Kobe shooting from the free throw line, even though he easily breezed by Wade and had the record clinched right there.

There was nothing wrong with this foul by Dywane Wade on Kobe Bryant, give me break for wanting a suspension for this! It was a normal play in the flow of a basketball game and Wade didn't go out of his way to try and hurt Bryant. He didn't do anything excessive in my opinion!

The cHeat will forever have an asterisk by every so-called win in the minds of basketball purists.
Um, no, they won't.  What are you even talking about?  Because they put together a team with a fraction of the payroll of the Lakers and managed not to get swepted out the door early?  I'm an OKC fan, but don't go thinking you speak for anyone other than maybe your group of fans sharing the same set of homer goggles.

Get real.  A couple of free agents talked to each other and decided it was in their best interests to play on the same team as one that already had a star.  Oh, the horror!!  Everyone in L.A. that spends their time talking about how "the Lakers will get X player in free agency" is actually hoping for a repeat of what happened in Miami.  That some noteworthy free agents will see an opportunity for a ring and come to L.A.

Pathetic, blind Kobe lovers are the ONLY ones who think his shot against Manu Ginobli was anything close to his, or anyone else's regular shooting motion.  Bryant, his mama, and his ex-wife, all know he threw an elbow, the same way he cheapshotted Ron Artest, Raja Bell, Mike Bibby, and the all-timer, Shane Battier.  You're the only one still claiming it wasn't.  Kobe just doesn't like it when someone has the gall to step up to him, so he cheap-shots, and he cheap-shotted Ginobli after Ginobli blocked his shot.

I assume you've got some link to the story where Stern "tried to susspend Kobe 9 games", right?  He got a Flagrant 1, period.  9 games?  fantasyland.

And exactly why do the Heat deserve to have an asterisk by their wins, oosterbaan?! Your post offered no insight as to why you feel this way. Do you have Tourettes?!

Although I disagree with your Bulls fans comment, Lomax, I agree that Wade was simply wrapping his arms around Kobe who in turn jumped up into the hard foul. Very surprised to see most of the posters ripping Wade and sticking up for Kobe. You have to love sports fans and the media. The NFL and its players get ripped for essentially mailing in their Pro Bowl performances but yet Wade gets chastised for an "aggressive" foul and/or for playing hard in the NBA equivalent.

Where is the suspension of D-Wade for this, Mr. Pathetic Stern?  If it was Kobe who had fouled your precious Wade he would have received a multiple game suspension.   I mean, Stern tried to suspend Kobe 9 games for hitting someone with his follow-through after shooting, the first and only time in NBA history a guard was suspended for that.  Even though the suspension was later reduced by an arbitrator who recognized the inherent bias, it was and remains a disgrace.  The cHeat will forever have an asterisk by every so-called win in the minds of basketball purists.
