The Lakers announced Sunday that Kobe Bryant suffered a nasal fracture during the All-Star game after a foul from Dwyane Wade. The Lakers say that Bryant will be re-evaluated Monday by an ear, nose, and throat specialist and is expected to resume practice Tuesday, according to the Orange County Register

Update: Yahoo Sports reports that Bryant also sustained a "mild concussion" on the play. If so, Bryant will be subject to the NBA's new concussion policy, which requires league approval for him to return to the court.

Here's video of the play from Wade in the third quarter which resulted in the broken schnoz:

Clearly a purposeful foul in an All-Star game, which isn't going to endear Wade to Lakers fans. Bryant stayed in the game and passed Michael Jordan for all-time leader in points scored in the All-Star Game. Wade also famously was involved in the injury to Rajon Rondo in last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Bryant was suffering from headaches after the game, which lead to him missing media availability after the game.

Dang, I didn't think that hard foul by Wade would of caused a broken nose.

It's not like it was displaced or anything.  Most people get these types of fractures and never even realize it.  Not a big deal.
Wade should never had made that type of infraction.
Eh.  He was obviously trying to wrap him up.  My 9 year old son noticed that Bryant had just mugged Wade on the other end with no call (and we were rooting for the West), so it's not to suprising that Wade wouldn't give him the freebie.

Kobe is one tough guy.  He is tough both mentally and physically.

Physically, I'll give you.  When his team is facing elimination he's a career 38% shooter and turnover machine.  He's a great front runner, which is different than "tough mentally".  A mentally tough player plays better when his team's back is to the wall, not significantly worse.

Most players would of either gone into the locker room and sat out for the rest of the game.

Extremely doubtul.  No one knew it was fractured at the time and it barely bled.  Most guys would have done the exact same thing Bryant did.

And people think the All-Star game is a joke? Yes it is a joke in the first half with pretty much no defense. However all of them are very competitive and in the end they all want to win. Did you hear how upset LeBron was after his turnover cost the East the game? The first half is a joke, but in the second their competitive edge gets them all.

Dang, I didn't think that hard foul by Wade would of caused a broken nose.  I remember seeing blood coming from Bryant's nose, after the foul.  Wade should never had made that type of infraction.  Interesting to see what transpires when both L.A. and Miami meet at Staples Center this coming Sunday.  Kobe is one tough guy.  He is tough both mentally and physically.  That's why he's been so persistent and successful all these years.  Most players would of either gone into the locker room and sat out for the rest of the game. Not Kobe, though.

Bynum should have "cleaned him off his feet"?  Really?  I think Bynum knows what would happen to him if he did that - he was suspended to start the season for that type of act.  Now if this was hockey, it would be a different story.  But I wouldn't want Bynum to further his reputation of being a dirty player just to respond to another dirty act.

That was a frustration foul by a guy thats a spoiled star that was beaten repeatedly by an older, better player. All Heat players get going when the going gets tough, he should have been ejected or Bynum should have cleaned him off his feet.

I am disappointed in Wade pulling a bush league foul in an NBA All Star Game, it does not take all that to foul someone going to the basket.   I guess he was doing Lebron a favor because Kobe was roasting him early on in the game.  Kobe still stayed on the floor and put up big numbers.

@lafatman

I would like you to name one guard who takes more contact and fouls down low than Derrick Rose. Do you know why D. Rose sat out a week with turf toe? Because Tom Thibedeau is in charge of his team and did not allow Rose to play. You could see the look on Rose's face as he sat on the bench that it was killing him that he wasn't playing. Kobe on the other hand has a coach who can't control him so he plays whenever he wants even if he hurts his team.

Reverse the roles and DWade is carted off in a wheel chair.  Kobe it soooo much tougher than Wade, and I am not a Bryant fan.  Wade is only tough in the commercials.
