Wade says he sent 'a message' of apology to Kobe

Pretty much everyone had the same reaction to Dwyane Wade's oddly hard foul on Kobe Bryant Sunday during the All-Star Game. What the crap was up with that?

In a regular game nobody would've batted an eye, but in the relaxed, fun setting of an All-Star Game, it definitely appeared out of place. Wade explained it afterward by saying he didn't mean to draw blood and was just getting Kobe back for some fouls on the other end.

But what ended up happening was that Kobe broke his nose, suffered a mild concussion and has to wear a mask for a little bit. So Wade feels a little bad now. And would like to say he's sorry. Via the Sun Sentinel, Wade says he sent "a message" of apology to Kobe for the broken nose and stressed he didn't mean any harm.
"I sent him a message, with my apologies. Unfortunate that happened to him, but that's all I could do," Wade said following Tuesday's practice at AmericanAirlines Arena, the first time he has commented on the incident since Sunday. "He knows it's no ill intent on me to do that. Did I take a foul? Yes, I took a foul. So, talk about me for taking a foul. But I never wanted that kind of outcome."

[...]

"It's unfortunate, obviously," he said. "You don't never want to hurt nobody, anybody in this game, especially on a freak play like that. So, you know it's unfortunate.

"I sent my apologies. But, you know, not intentional. If it's something I did intentionally, it's a different story. So it's unfortunate."
Wade really didn't have to apologize like that. It's basketball. Bloody noses, busted lips and black eyes happen all the time. When it does, you say, "My bad" and keep moving on. This only became something bigger because in the traditional manner of the All-Star Game, you don't see things like that. Wade said he was just "taking a foul" to stop play so he could talk to the ref about two calls he didn't get on the other end. It was an accident, end of story. It might've looked funny, but the fact Kobe got his nose broken wasn't the intention.

Still, people like TNT's Reggie Miller were extremely critical of Wade's foul on Kobe and called for him to apologize publicly. Wade isn't into that.
"Reggie don't know what was said," Wade said. "When I saw his blood, obviously I didn't try to do that. I don't know if anybody wants me to get down on my knees in front of the world and do it. I don't have to do that.

"Like I said, everyone has an opinion, everyone uses their opinion. Like I said, I sent my apologies to Kobe and I move on from it. It's unfortunate. It was not nothing that was ill intent, in a sense. But this will be the last time I talk about it from this point on."

And guess what, you guys? The Heat play the Lakers on Sunday. So that should be a little more fun now. If Andrew Bynum clotheslines Wade on a drive to the basket, I think you'll know why.

Notorious had it right, he took a foul to complain about a couple of calls that went against him. Thats so wrong because you are complaining about calls in a ASG. Does the guy get up bitching. That move had punk all over it, and his reason made him a bigger one. He is to good of a player to have done what he did. He was pissed and got his , come Sunday, I hope people will get him and give the same reason.

Reggie Miller critical of the foul? What is he talking about? Miller says it was a good foul when he was commentating on the game(watch the video)...

Anyone making a big deal out of this foul is moron... Yes I said moron... He didn't knock him to the ground, take out his knees, etc.  He grabbed and as he did he accidentally hit him in the nose... You people are acting like he clotheslined him like Bynum did in the playoffs last year...  I will say hard fouls usually aren't part of the All Star game because they don't play defense, but things happen... Wade isn't a dirty player and has never been a dirty player so to make him out as a villain is just foolish...

Immediately following the All Star game was the appropriate time for the correct apology. After learning the extent of damage caused by your dumb out of place foul, it means nothing. Many happy returns on Sunday Mr. Wade. Go Lakers!

I'm lookin' for MWP to go all WMD on D-Wade & Co.
Ron Artes....I mean Metta World Peace hasn't showed up all season.  I doubt he picks Sunday as the time to show up.

Really Wade? During the All-Star game? Kobe will drop 40+ points on your b*tch-a$$ Sunday, with a broken nose and mild concussion. If that would've happened to Wade he'd have to sit out at least a week.

It'll probably take Kobe about 35-37 shot attempts to get there.  Also, he'll likely leave Bynum and Gasol as specatators with his usual ridiculous shots.

Just like Wade was sorry when he mugged Rondo in the playoffs last year ( and seperated Rondo's shoulder) although it was the main reason they won that series ..... Wade is a PUNK. !!! Pure and simple he proved that in the playoffs last year mocking Dirk , he is a bigger A$$ than Lebron easily

Last time I checked, Rondo was holding onto the back of Wade's jersey and only Boston fans are the one's screaming.  Based on Boston's play this season (with a healthly Rondo), I'm going to still state that Miami IS the better team.

Funny how most of you call Wade a punk and classless for his foul on Kobe which was a physical foul yes, during a meaningless All-star game.  However Kobe (along with Bynum) have given plenty more cheap shots to other players throughout their respective careers then Wade has, yet it's ok because it's during the regular season.  Bynum has given considerable shots while players are mid-air that could seriously end someone's career (Barea, Beasley, etc.).

I also don't think Miami is too worried about the Lakers this Sunday.  LA is a few games over .500, and last time I checkd Miami handled them convincingly the last few times they have met.

Of course he's sorry now.  He just realized that they play the Lakers Sunday and theres a good chance someone on that team will hand out some justice.  If Stern had any guts, he would suspend Wade until Kobe comes back.  You cause a concussion with a cheap shot, you sit until that player is cleared to return.  There was no need for that foul in an All Star game.  I hope you do play Sunday Wade and Barnes, Bynum or World Peace put you on your back side every time you try to drive the lane.

The refs will be lookin too and there could be 60+ FTs in this game.  Look for trouble despite the refs.  The Lakers have some frustrations to take out.  They can send a message back to Wade and his co-roid sidekick.

Good thing it doesn't look like Kobe will be missing any games over this injury. It'd be a real shame to see the regular season severely impacted by a mid-season exhibition game, and who knows what the repercussions of that would have been for participation in future mid-season exhibition games. I mean, if this had happened to Lebron, we might never see him play in an All-Star Game ever again without a more significant cash prize.

Wade, in trying to spark his Eastern All-Star teammates this past Sunday, may have unwittingly done his Maimi Heat teammates a huge disservice come Sunday when the Heat set foot at Staples Center for a tilt against the Lakers. I'm lookin' for MWP to go all WMD on D-Wade & Co.

The lack of defense is what makes the NBA game the worst all star game in sports.
Have you ever watched the Pro Bowl?

He wanted to stop the game so he could talk to the ref about some fouls?  In the All Star Game?  He wants to work the ref during the All Star Game?  Are you serious?  The All Star Game?  Damn.  I never thought I'd feel like Jim Mora, but suddenly I do.  The All Star Game?
