Hard to imagine Lamar Odom won the Sixth Man of the Year award last season, and did it with maybe his most efficient season ever.

Why is that hard to imagine? Because he's headed to the D-League, according to ESPN.com.

The Dallas Mavericks hope to have Lamar Odom back in uniform in a matter of days, but it might not immediately be a Mavs uniform, sources said.

Odom is likely to play at least one game with the Mavericks' D-League affiliate in nearby Frisco to, as one source said, "get his legs back under him." The Texas Legends play the Austin Toros at home Thursday night, but sources said it's more likely Odom practices with the Legends on Friday while the Mavericks are in New Orleans and then plays Saturday's home game with the Legends, also against Austin, while the Mavericks are playing host to Utah.

A team spokesman had said earlier Thursday that Odom will not make the trip to New Orleans. The team plans to provide another update on Odom's status before Saturday's game.

Odom was given a week of personal leave from the team after he left the team before the All-Star break to tend to an ill father. The assignment is more seen as something to help him just get back in shape. But then again, with the way Odom has performed this season, plus with the rumors starting to swirl around him, it's easy to assume there could be more to this.

Maybe the Mavs are deep in trade talks right now for him. Maybe they're just unhappy with his production and effort and are trying to grab his attention. Or maybe Odom really just needs some time to get back in shape.

As for buying him out, Cuban says it's not happening.

"We're not going to buy out anybody, there's no reason to do it," Cuban said. "We're not going to do that. That's not the way we work. We try to find what the problem is and fix it."

Since his trade from the Lakers before the season, Odom clearly hasn't been the same player. It's mostly a mental thing, as he was wounded by the way the Lakers sent him uncerimoniously out of town. He also briefly considered retirement due to an unexpected death in his family. So Odom has been dealing with issues off the court, which have affected him on it.

And right now, he's away from the Mavs on leave and likely is headed to Frisco before he finds his way back into a Dallas uniform, if he comes back to Dallas at all. My, how things change in a year.

Another example of Jim Buss's silver spooned damage to total destruction.  Buss throws his petulant pride tantrum thinking in his typical ignorance that he is showing everyone who is boss now. Important only to his immature psyche.  And gives Odom away in one day for next to nothing.

Jerry Buss or Jerry West would have dealt w/ Odom, talked to him and brought him back to reality and his production w/ the Lakers. Kobe demanded trade a while back, Jerry Buss handled it quite differently.  Some spoiled children like Jimmy Boy never learn from their Fathers.

Well, LO prolly would still be in LA had he or what's-her-name not whined about the CP3 scenario. LO said we wanted to be traded, so Jim Buss called his bluff and dispatched him.

I knew that Lamar was soft by watching him on his wifes reality show but I didn't know he was this soft, every since he was traded to the Mavs he's been crying, the doesn't understand that the NBA is a business, him being traded by the Lakers was a business move, I mean come on man be an professional, you are not a Laker anymore, even Michael Jordan had to change uniforms once in his NBE career. What a waste of pure talent, I hope that Kardashian chick doesn't leave him like his career is.

That link that was provided to ESPN contained better journalism than this. ESPN Dallas has confirmed that this is Odom's idea to play a couple games with the D League, not the Mavs' office. That changes the complexion of this story. If anything it is a good sign that shows that maybe Odom is getting ready to finally get serious.

This is a perfect example of a ball player not being a professional.  He loved being in LA because of all the glitter and fame.  Then the Lakers GIVE him to the Mavericks and he been upset since day 1.  Being a military minded man, there are many things I didn't like doing in the military.  Going to a new assignment after you had been established was the roughest thing I have ever had to do in a military career.  But I would pack my family up and we would go smiling.

Lamar needs to do the same...if he is not happy in Dallas...its time to call it a career and move on to something else!

I get that he has had some terrible things happen but life is filled with hardships. If he is to mentally distraught to perform to his potential, then he should void his contract and take a few years off.  No sympathy for the spoiled child as long as he is taking the money he is paid to perform and is not performing. Many going through tough times find solace in the game they love. They work harder. Lamar is just pouting.

Maybe he should considering becoming a reality TV star. It is less work. Oh, he already does that.

I can't believe that his cousin dying, then him being in the car that killed an innocent teen while he watch helplessly as a passanger, then his father becoming fatally ill have affected his play. What a Diva. I can't believe he has "emotions" what a wimp.
