NBA ref to Dirk Nowitzki: 'Do you want to go?'

Dallas Mavericks All-Star forwrd Dirk Nowitzki wasn't pleased with a no-call but he had no idea his protests would be met with four threats of ejection.

In one of the more direct exchanges between NBA referee and superstar player that you will ever see caught on camera, official Eric Dalen asked Nowitzki directly if he would like to be ejected on four occasions.

"Do you want to go?" Dalen asked, over and over, after first hitting Nowitzki with a technical foul for arguing a no-call on a drive attempt.

The scene began with a little more than 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of a Tuesday night game between the Mavericks and the New York Knicks. Nowitzki drove the paint against multiple Knicks defenders, only to have the ball swatted out of his possession with no foul given. Nowitzki reacted with frustration and was hit with the quick tech from Dalen. As he went to the sideline to argue that call, Dalen moved towards the scorer's table, issuing his ejection threat while looking directly at Nowitzki.

Nowitzki backed down, which was a smart move given that it was just an 8-point game at the time of the incident. The Mavericks held on for the 95-85 win. Nowitzki finished with a game-high 28 points.

Here's the video of NBA referee Eric Dalen asking Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki if he wants to be ejected.

NBA ref to Dirk Nowitzki: 'Do you want to go?'

When the ball was knocked loose, the person who knocked it lose came down on Dirk's left arm, but I guess that's not a foul just like when Dirk hacked the crap out of Stoudemire without a call. LOL!

Its pretty obivious you don't like the Mavericks. Your right about that there was no foul , but both duncan and kobe would have got a whistle and you know it

There was clearly no foul on that play.  He drove and lost the ball off his own knee.  Dirk was reacting to what Kidd said after Mondays game.  Last year the Mavs might have been the better team to win their One and ONLY TITLE, and now the players think that they should be respected....look at the league and Duncan and Kobe have 9 titles between them and they dont get the calls because of one factor....these are new refs and the players have to earn their respect.  Another thing to think about....while the players were whinning during the lockout and were living off their endorsments.....these refs were at home making nothing....zero....dont you think that this season the refs are more pissed and making players earn the calls.   All the players need to grow up and figure out that these new refs are not giving the Super Star Calls that we are used too.  Dalen should have tossed him after telling him the second time....I dont have to tell my kids more than once.....think about that.

Geez, how many times does a referee have to ask a player "if he wants to go" before throwing his a** out of the game? If the referee observes that a player, is infact in violation, you don't ask him if he wants to go, you just throw his a** out of the game!  I respect a referee who does his job to the best of his ability & makes calls on everyone, no matter what "superstars" they are or may consider themselves to be! Call it as you see it ref & if you are not completely sure, don't call it at all!

@fflhogan I was even more supportive of the refs when they made that call against the Mavs which sent Ibaka to the free throw line Monday night with only 46 seconds left. I mean that clearly was the correct call.

I'm a Bulls fan so I don't care one way or the other about Dallas, but there was a reach in foul from the top of the key and a rake on the arms. With that said who gives a crap about the NBA anyway, whoever Stern wants to win will win, bottom line.March Madness can't start soon enough.
