The Basketball world had an earthquake hit it today with the announcement that Chris Paul has expressed interest to the Hornets front office that he would like to be traded.  His main reasons for wanting to be traded is he feels like New Orleans is not building a championship contending team and winning a title is exactly what Paul wants.  Paul reports that there are three teams he wants to play for.  The Knicks, The Magic or The 2-time world champion L.A Lakers.  Alot of people have passed the idea of Chris Paul playing for the lakers as lunacy and crazy talk.  However crazy it may sound, its not as crazy as it may seem.  Lets review.

Much the way the lakers took Pau Gasol from memphis they can pull a similar deal for Paul.  New Orleans will want one thing, and one thing only.  Lots of cap room and maybe a good young player, say Andrew Bynum??  I know, I know Bynum is the Lakers future.  Bynum is a talented kid who can play at an All-Star Level.  The key word is can, he CAN play at an All-Star level.  Chris Paul DOES play at an All-Star level.  On top of that, the major question with Andrew is can the kid finally stay healthy??  Only time will tell, but if the hornets wanted bynum as part of the trade and they were willing to give you Chris Paul how do you not pull the trigger if your L.A??  You get rid of a kid thats loaded with talent and potential but also has a bad injury history for arguably the best PG in the game.  The Hornets would probably want sasha included in the trade to make salaries match and because thats a large contract coming off the books.

Another player New Orleans may go for if the lakers balk at trading bynum would be Lamar Odom.  Odom and Sasha and Maybe another no name for Chris Paul IMHO is a no-brainer.  Odom is VERY VERY inconsistent and it seemed to me that last year he regressed a bit.  He may be showing some signs of decline in his game.  If the Hornets are willing to part with paul for odom, sasha and some other player on the lakers bench I say We pull the trigger.  Now you keep Bynum, you got Chris Paul to go with Kobe and Gasol.  Paul and Bynum would make a great tandem as the years would go on beyond kobe's retirement and even pau's.

Now, will all of this happen?? Probably not.  But its not as crazy as it sounds.  If the price is right, you may see CP3 in a purple and gold jersey next year.  Also, save the talk that chris paul isnt right for the triangle.  This is a top flight PG with a very high basketball IQ and a good outside shooter.  He will fit in just fine.  Also, if he has any issues fisher will be right there to help him out.  I would have no concerns with Paul learning the offense.  Again, if the Hornets want Bynum, Sasha and another bench player.  We should consider it and possibly do it.  Odom/Sasha and someone else.  No brainer.  Do it and do it quick.  IF they want odom and bynum forget it(which is what they will probably want)  This wouldnt just be a move for now, but a move for the future.

CP3 to the Lakers?? Crazy...But Not THAT Crazy...

I understand teams want the expiring contracts... but New Orleans better bring back top talent in a deal.  The fact is they have no chance at signing a player like Carmelo if they go and trade a player like Paul.  There are too many teams and better teams that could offer a max contract.. plus if you ask me Melo is going to NY or NJ or staying put.

I agree that Bynum would be the player if they are going to make a deal... and if I am the Lakers I absolutely make that trade.  It makes them MUCH better.  I would move Walton and Vujacic in a deal as well.  I dont think they are key pieces.  Walton is no Matt Barnes.  Barnes brings better defense than both SF... and he hits the 3 ball just about as well as Vujacic.  I think they do need to resign Shannon Brown though.

How this could happen, best case for lakers.

If Bynum left Odom would start, we got a championship with him. This being said I would not take this trade unless it's an Odom/Sasha/nobodyguy they got Barnes unless your not mistaken, Bynum if he stays healthy is more valuble to the team, because it gives them a huuuuge advantage inside, no one could score on us and we would grab so many offensive rebounds, and D-fish still has a year or two left in the tank. if it's Odom, take it otherwise I would not.

The situation this does happen is, Odom is better than anything the Knicks have to offer so the Hornets like it, the Magic trade doesn't work out as well. And for paul to even be dealt, he basically will have to say, trade me or i won't play which unless the GM has a really good plan is not going to happen, Paul will most likely force their hand and out of desperation they would turn to the lakers and take Odom.

CP3 to the Lakers?? Crazy...But Not THAT Crazy...

Here is my take on the possible CP3 trade.  This assuming that a trade happens.

1.  If he goes to the Knicks,  he obviously has Stoudemire to work with.  And Azuibuike is a good player who would of had a breakout year if  not for the injury.  However the talent doesn't go much further than that.  Do I think that this team would be better than the Heat?  No.

2.  With Howard, Lewis, Barnes, Carter, and Nelson, I think that the Magic have more to offer than the Lakers and Knicks.  They may have to trade Carter/Nelson and Orton along with a first round pick to get CP3.  Do I think this team is better than the Heat with CP3?  It depends on who they have to give up.

3.  The Lakers with Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum form a well-knit grouup.  If the Hornets ask for any of the players, I would say it wouldn't be worth it. I think that the  Lakers with Kobe, Gasol and Bynum  are still better than the Heat.

Chris Paul would make 3 starting PGs on the same team. Somehow...I don't think so.

And the 3rd no-name player doesn't exist. Give us a name. There isn't one. The Lakers are stacked right now. After Sasha, there's Luke Walton and nobody else. And I mean...literally...Nobody Else. And Walton's contract is too big, and I doubt the Hornets would want him anyway. The Lakers are not giving up Bynum; they don't have anybody to take his place. Ratliff is not a starter.

The Lakers would have to give up Fisher in that deal. Blake is untradable until December. So, there is just no way possible to make that deal.

Besides which, why should the Hornets trade him at all? The guy has two years left on his contract, and the Hornets can wait for a better package than Lamar Odom and Sasha.

I didnt say it was going to happen i was saying it could happen.  I agree with the notion that he will more than likely be in orlando.  I cant see him going to NY.

That makes no sense.  If they don't add it to begin with, they don't have to worry about it coming off the books.  If they are smart, they will hold out with CP3 and not listen to the little spoiled brat.

CP3 to the Lakers?? Crazy...But Not THAT Crazy...

Come on be real. Anyone who knows Basketball knows there is no way Paul is coming to the Lakers. Jackson has one 10 championships running the Triangle offense.
1. The triangle is predicated on not having anyone dominate the ball with the dribble. Its a point forward offense where you throw the ball into the post and everything reacts from that.
2. There is no way Jackson is retooling his offensive structure in his last year on the bench coming off back to back championships, his ego is way to big for anything like that
3. Bynum is Buss sons baby, they could have moved him for Bosch and Farmar last year and said no thanks
Paul will end up in Orlando and make Howard even more of a monster running pick and roll all day long

As I mentioned in an earlier post odom, sasha and another player and a future 1st rounder for paul wouldnt happen.  Now if it was Bynum, Sasha another player and a 1st rounder that might get it done.

Dwinner, why did the Memphis Grizzles want Kwame Brown included in the pau gasol deal??  The lakers gave up Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittiteton a 2 1st rounders and marc gasol for pau and a 2nd round pick.

Kwame Brown had a large expiring deal coming off the books.  There is no bigger no name in the NBA than kwame brown.  So you ask why would they want Sasha?  He's a nobody but this is the last year of his contract.  It doesnt matter how much of a no name the player is.  Thats another 5 mil or so coming off the books for the lakers or the hornets.  Dont forget, next season you will have some quality Free Agents.  I believe Carmello is a FA next season.  If the Hornets want a chance at signing a big name player they need to clear cap space.  An expiring deal like sasha's is a perfect way to do that.  Thats how the NBA works.  Scrub teams trade their best players for cap relief(expiring deals) and for potential good players.  The fact that sasha is a no-name is inmaterial.  All that matters is that his contract comes off the books.
