Reggie Bush returns his Heisman

I think giving up the Heisman may have been easy for Reggie Bush to do compared to being stripped of it. I bet he was told he was going to be stripped of it if he didn't give it up on his own. He comes out of this mess smelling just a little less stinky doing it this way. There was no way the Heisman Trophy Trust in good old NYC was going to let him keep that title anyway.

Bush still loses the Heisman, but this way, he's allowed to save just a little face, even though we all knew he was going to lose it wanyway.

You have to wonder if he's taking one for his friends and family, who also benefitted from Bush's tarnished recruitment to the University of Southern California. Maybe he's thinking if he gives up the trophy (quasi-voluntarily), then some of the heat might be taken off his posse.

The bigger issue, however, is how Bush, and the others involved in this, screwed over USC. Bush still went pro, got drafted high by the New Orleans Saints and has a great contract.

Pete Carroll, USC's coach during this mess, went pro and has a huge contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Those poor kids left at USC, who weren't even in school there when Bush won his tainted Heisman Trophy, are on probation, can't go to a bowl game, etc. They're the ones who suffer, and they did nothing wrong. This system stinks.

You think Reggie Bush will be invited to hang on the sidelines at a USC game anytime in the near future?

They were going to take the trophy away - Bush did the smart thing returning it to get it over with.

I wouldn't discount the idea they gave Bush the option of returning it voluntarily or have it revoked.

Reggie Bush returns his Heisman

I do feel bad  for USC and the football team I mean so much talent gotta suffer because of foolishness Reggie Bush was involved in and he got away scott free if anything the NFL should have suspended Bush for two years as well that school suffering and he living it up that Heisman trophy don't mean nothing to him he got a nice contract and a Superbowl ring way to go Bush! What is it about people with last name Bush that screws things up and leave the mess for the next man to clean up?

Also: I think a lot of guys break the rules. Usually, they don't get ratted out. Reggie Bush had the misfortune of getting caught.

Actually, the NCAA has no control over who wins the Heisman Trophy or who doesn't win the Heisman Trophy or who gives it back... It's not an NCAA award. The Heisman Trophy Trust determines who the winner is, and all the rules associated with it. The NCAA just decides stuff relating to its member institutions and its championship series for each sport.

Reggie Bush returns his Heisman

Sure. Sometimes that makes sense. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing. Here, the best thing to do is banish Bush's importance from the sport. He is a cheater. He knew the rules and disregarded them. A man that does that clearly doesnt respect the organization of college football and as a result college football shouldnt respect, or, honour Reggie Bush. I hope the NCAA exercises every single remedy they possibly can against Reggie Bush. The (young) man made a mockery of the sport during his time and then walked away leaving good (young) men to suffer for his mistakes. He is a disgrace and the NCAA needs to make sure its official record books do nothing to honour him.

The whole concept of "giving back" the heisman is pretty ridiculous. Are we supposed to just forget about the 05 season? The NCAA has come out and said that there will just be "no winner" now. We all know Reggie Bush won it, and when asked who the heisman trophy winner was for that season no one will respond, "Nobody". When asked who holds the record for most career home runs are we supposed to deny Barry Bonds and claim that no one holds that record? Even Vince Young won't claim the title after this, he says it belongs to Bush. Hey NCAA sometimes the best thing to do about something is....nothing.
