Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

It's pretty well-known that Boise State has historically struggled to fill its schedule with enough legitimate teams to beef the season's strength of schedule to the point of respectability. Sure, there's Oregon last year, Virginia Tech last weekend, but by and large, it's slim pickings. But if the report from the Omaha World-Herald today is true, it sure sounds like Boise's not really putting in a good-faith effort:

Nebraska called. Nebraska tried.

In the past year, NU tried to put together a series with BSU; two-for-one, home-and-home, one-way trip to Lincoln. Whatever. It ended up fizzling out. Why?

Because, according to NU Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Jamrog, Boise wanted a minimum $1 million to play in Lincoln.

This, of course, is insanity. Nebraska has zero incentive to agree to a deal like that; while the athletic program would still make money off of the game even after handing over seven figures to their esteemed guests, they'd make a lot more by hosting any number of other programs instead. Moreover, for BCS teams, non-conference strength of schedule doesn't really matter. Or, if you demand more nuance, SOS does matter, but not nearly to the extent that it would offset the negative effect of taking a loss should Nebraska lose that game (easily possible).

But if that's the way Boise wants to play it, by all means, let them. Just keep stories like these in mind the next time a BSU fan complains about the consequences of the cupcake schedule they face every year.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Let's see.  BSU has been better than NU for about 5 years.  Long time?  NU has been better than BSU for 135 years prior to that.  Yeah.  Hate to burst your bubble 5 years is not a long time.  Try to be FSU and earn it.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

So what is a big boy schedule Nebraska style?  Playing one of four non-conference games against BCS schools?  Each and every year? l

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Well put MrPook.   For all the morons out here who dont get the home and home format..  Nebraska schedules teams like Washington, VTech, USC, every 2 years... going back even farther earlier this decade, Penn St., Notre Dame...  Ect..   1 game in Lincoln and 1 in the other place.

The Idahos and WKentuckys of the world get a trip to Lincoln... sometimes 2 years in a row... and get a loss and a huge payday.

Nebraska was willing to treat Boise St. like a top program and do the home and home with them...  1 game in Boise, 1 in Lincoln... No Fee, just % of gate.
But Boise St. wanted NU to pay 1 Million to play in Boise St.    Almost like Boise St. is treating NU like a cupcake..  When NU asked for 1 game in Lincoln, Boise St. ducked out.   Chicken Shits...

If you wanna be treated like one of the big boys.. better start acting like one...

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Why wouldnt nebraska schedule them?   NU has Washington home and home in 2010-2011,  08-09 we had VTech, and 06-07 we had USC!#!  So let me ask you, obvious husker hater, "do you really think this is Nebraskas way to get out of it?"  Boise St. had their chance and blew it..
"anywhere & anytime for free"  lmao...   You Tell Em!

And as far as our asses handed to us in the Big Ten.. lol

Ohio St. will be our toughest game...   Iowa(Stanzi)and Wisconsins(Tolzien) QB's are both seniors so they'll be gone.
Michigan i'll give you a maybe.. depending on Robinson..  Penn St and JoePa? rumored to be his last year this year.. and most Big Ten recruiting experts agree their recruiting efforts have gone south...

Having said all that.. i see 1 conference loss in the Big Ten... I think we beat Ohio St. and lose to Michigan.. Hows those apples for Big Ten play...     At the most, for sure, 2 losses...   I love it when all these fans think Nebraska is going to get their asses handed to them in the Big Ten.  LMAO

Cornhuskers cannot be trusted?  LMAO!!!!!!!!!   Are we bitter?   or just a moron?  or maybe both?  What makes you say that?  HA

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

I am trying to understand your reasoning. If you have performed to a certain level at your job, would you expect to be paid the same amount somewhere  else.  Yes BSU need games against the big conferences, but they don't have to take them at crack head prices. BSU needs to build the program like anybody else, and by getting million dollar games, allows them to do that.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

$1mm is pretty standard if its a one and done away.  I know this is how much Clemson paid TCU last year to come to Death Valley.  I remember that payment being talked about as par for the course.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

What a disgrace to college football...this team was outplayed in all facets of the game against the 10TH RANKED TEAM IN THE COUNTRY....and had to make a last minute come from behind drive to squeak out a win.   After the 10TH RANKED TEAM IN THE COUNTRY had a punt blocked and fumbled a QB snap for 2 tap in scores...
What's funny is that Boise State didn't use a single trick play against VT...but VT used one.

Also, why don't you go back and take a look at the stats for the game.  Boise State out-rushed, out-passed, even committed more penalties and gave more turnovers than VT, yet they won.

VT looked very aggressive, but Boise State beat them on the scoreboard and in the stat book.

Plus, that final drive, Boise State made it look easy driving all the way down the field...when it mattered.

But tell us, all knowing one, about how you know more than the people in the coaches poll, the AP poll, and even the computers (2 of the BCS computers listed Boise State as #2, a third listed them as #3).  I'm sure you know something that everyone else doesn't know.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

I love how the IDIOTS swarm to this biased little hit piece on Boise State.  By all means don't let the FACTS get in your way IDIOTS.  And oh btw just overlook the fact that Nebraska is paying IDAHO $800,000 to play in Lincoln tomorrow........

Never mind the fact that Nebraska wanted Boise State to agree to come to Lincoln TWICE on BOISE STATE's own dime (no money) in exchange for Nebraska coming to Boise ONCE..............hmmmm seems this little hit piece on Boise State forgot to mention those FACTS.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Yeah pay Western Carolina $500,000 for a cakewalk.  If they have 76,000 fans that like to pay big bucks for a scrimmage great.  All the more money to pay the coaching staff.  Hope you enjoy your $500,000 raw meat this Saturday.  And remember Boise gets ripped for playing Idaho.  Wow another Nebraska non-conference toughy.
