Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

It's pretty well-known that Boise State has historically struggled to fill its schedule with enough legitimate teams to beef the season's strength of schedule to the point of respectability. Sure, there's Oregon last year, Virginia Tech last weekend, but by and large, it's slim pickings. But if the report from the Omaha World-Herald today is true, it sure sounds like Boise's not really putting in a good-faith effort:

Nebraska called. Nebraska tried.

In the past year, NU tried to put together a series with BSU; two-for-one, home-and-home, one-way trip to Lincoln. Whatever. It ended up fizzling out. Why?

Because, according to NU Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Jamrog, Boise wanted a minimum $1 million to play in Lincoln.

This, of course, is insanity. Nebraska has zero incentive to agree to a deal like that; while the athletic program would still make money off of the game even after handing over seven figures to their esteemed guests, they'd make a lot more by hosting any number of other programs instead. Moreover, for BCS teams, non-conference strength of schedule doesn't really matter. Or, if you demand more nuance, SOS does matter, but not nearly to the extent that it would offset the negative effect of taking a loss should Nebraska lose that game (easily possible).

But if that's the way Boise wants to play it, by all means, let them. Just keep stories like these in mind the next time a BSU fan complains about the consequences of the cupcake schedule they face every year.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Please someone writes something that alledgedly comes from the assistant athletic director...if it was true they would have been whining amount the $ amount a long time ago.  The NU people can speak once they step up to the plate and put it on the field but we all know there is too much to risk doing that and it has nothing to do with $!

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

A lot of us fans are nieve about how college football payouts work and what goes in to scheduling.  I found a report that was VERY interesting that I think will clear up a lot of crap being spoken about Boise State.  You can check it out at .  I live in Boise and am a fan but not a delusional fan.  The Broncos have a great football program and given their limited resources compared to larger programs make the most out what they have.  Image if Boise had the same resources as Ohio State or Florida, damn that would be the best program in the country hands down..... Boise makes a living off finding talented players (2-3 star players) no one wanted and then coaches them up to 4 star quality.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

:

Boise State got dragged into this whole thing because the Nebraska chancellor popped off to Congress during the BCS hearings. This whole thing has been about saving face for Nebraska. Nebraska threw BSU a deal they new BSU would not take. Then turned around and told everyone, "hey we tried". Flash forward a year and BSU plays in one of the highest rated college football games "ever". Next thing you know the Nebraska AAD is going to the papers with this "outlandish" $1M demand. Why do this? Could it be that some alumni are asking, what happened with the Boise State deal? (7,252,000 households gets people attention). So now the AAD is trying to cover his A$$.

Next time there's a congressional BCS hearing, don't send anyone!

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Oregon and Oregon State are Regional games that both compete with Boise in recruiting. They play each other for a recruiting edge in bragging rights. Virginia Tech was played in DC, which makes it a huge TV deal and both teams get paid much more than if it was played in either teams stadium. Any other questions?

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Hmm, it's always good to check your facts before you start name calling. Boise State ask for a straight up home and home (no money), Nebraska said no. Some talks took place for a one-and-done for 2011 (both schools had the same open date), Nebraska ended these talks because (this is where it gets tricky)

Nebraska AD, says, it's a scheduling issue

Nebraska AAD, says, we're not paying $1M

Boise State has since filled the date with Ole Miss (and $900K)

Nebraska has yet to fill theirs (but don't be surprised if it's a Sun Belt type team and the check will be north of $800K)

Thanks for playing.......

Who cares about the fudgepac 10?  No one.

Then again, the might Arizona Wildcats sure gave the big red a run last year, didn't they?  30- to zip my friend.  Way to represent your conference.  What's that?  I think the huskers just scored again.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

Why does nebraska need Boise?  Nebraska packs the house every home game, they have moved to the Big 10 with a very difficult schedule, and their non conference schedule includes Fresno State and Washington next year.

Screw Boise.

Boise State wanted $1 million to play Nebraska?

In a home and home series there is no money exchange.  Teams like Nebraska pay money to other teams for one game at home.  Know about something before talking about it.
