Addazio: Rainey 'is no longer part of the team'

Following the arrest of Florida Gators wide receiver Chris Rainey after threatening text messages he sent a girl, there are two questions that need to be answered regarding Rainey's future.  First and foremost, what, if any, legal ramifications will he face for the incident?  He was released on Tuesday morning following a hearing in an Alachua County courtroom.

The second question is what, if any, punishment he'll be receiving from the Florida Gators.  Well, we got a hint of that on Tuesday afternoon when offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said that Rainey "is no longer part of the team."

What exactly that means, I'm not entirely sure.

There's a lot of wiggle room in Addazio's statement.  Rainey may just be suspended for the time being, or he could have been kicked off the time being.  Given Urban Meyer 's history of discipline with his players -- more accurately, his lack of discipline -- in the past, there's no telling what will happen with Rainey.

While Addazio's quote indicates that Rainey is no longer a member of the Florida football team, until Urban Meyer comes out and says that Rainey will never play for the Florida Gators again, I'll remain skeptical.

@gators73: Ya you guys are looking really impressive this year to.  With your awesome performance against Miami(Ohio) and going toe-to-toe with USF as they looked like the better team in the first half.  So much for being just as good with Brantley then you were with Tebow.  Btw, Miami still has more titles then Florida and you've only beaten the U one time in the last 25 years you douche. btw it's than not then. It's all aubout dat U BABEE

I was on vacation last year with a Florida Law student who now practices in the Gainsville area and he laughed when I brought this up!  He said UF has certain attorney's and lawyers that we use if a UF player is in trouble.  It is known in our circle and things will get dropped because most of these people are UF alumni.Yeah, because law students get all the inside information about the secret law practices of their universities. This might be the dumbest statement on this blog, and that is saying something. Stop reading Gresham novels and stick to reality.

This is same as always.....This is Florida Gator football are you kidding me!  This is Gator Nation and what they stand behind...win at all cost and he probably didn't mean it!  Watch what happens!  I was on vacation last year with a Florida Law student who now practices in the Gainsville area and he laughed when I brought this up!  He said UF has certain attorney's and lawyers that we use if a UF player is in trouble.  It is known in our circle and things will get dropped because most of these people are UF alumni.   Wonder what would happen if anyone ever published those facts?

LOL..when all else fails, just say everyone is doing it.  You're the victim blah, blah, blah.

You've had 34 arrest in 5 years.  If you can't see a problem with that, your ip is probably coming from the county jail

You're a freaking moron.  This coming from a fan of Thug U.  Shannon took the thugs out of the U and what have you got?  Squat.  We have never had Rap pimps on the sidelines passing out $100 bills to the biggest muggers on the defense.  Your just sorry that some players went North, and the U are losers.

Yeah, we have had 35 arrests- arrests genius, not convictions- spaced out over 6 years.  Most were for underage drinking, or driving with expired licenses.  Young and dumb, but hardly a menace to society.  A handful were of a more serious variety, and they all were dealt with appropriately and according to due process.  You know, innocent until proven guilty.  Of course, I'm sure they don't teach Constitutional law at Miami.

The girlfriend claims she signed papers refusing to press charges- she didn't want him arrested.  She just wanted him to cool off.  It seems like they had a heated argument.  OMG, noboby in college ever had an argument with a chick and had her get hysterical.  What is different now is that they call the cops immediately and think later.  If there is proof that there was more to it, he will and should be dealt with according to law.  If not, those who want to lynch him without a trial should be as loudmouthed in apology as they are now.

By the way, Carlos Dunlap was drunk and driving.  He had no priors, and he paid his fine and did his community service just like anybody else would.  He got no special treatment.  He was suspended from play for a game.  Should he have been thrown off the team, and been blackballed in addition?  You critics are awefully self- righteous.  I'll bet you got drunk, smoked dope, and maybe even drove home when you were in school- or can't you remember?
