Addazio: Rainey 'is no longer part of the team'

Following the arrest of Florida Gators wide receiver Chris Rainey after threatening text messages he sent a girl, there are two questions that need to be answered regarding Rainey's future.  First and foremost, what, if any, legal ramifications will he face for the incident?  He was released on Tuesday morning following a hearing in an Alachua County courtroom.

The second question is what, if any, punishment he'll be receiving from the Florida Gators.  Well, we got a hint of that on Tuesday afternoon when offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said that Rainey "is no longer part of the team."

What exactly that means, I'm not entirely sure.

There's a lot of wiggle room in Addazio's statement.  Rainey may just be suspended for the time being, or he could have been kicked off the time being.  Given Urban Meyer 's history of discipline with his players -- more accurately, his lack of discipline -- in the past, there's no telling what will happen with Rainey.

While Addazio's quote indicates that Rainey is no longer a member of the Florida football team, until Urban Meyer comes out and says that Rainey will never play for the Florida Gators again, I'll remain skeptical.

UofF, maybe you missed the entire Chip Kelly and Oregon discipline marathon during the last 2 years. Now your holiest of conferences is starting on of the Pac-10's detritus from that UNDERREPORTED period of time. Yeah, poor Florida is always being picked on. Wah, wah.

Myered in Controversy

Who presides over more criminals that Sub-Urban Mire? This makes it like 35. Not that the NCAA cares about physicall violations just monetary. It's part of my theory on wins and criminals. Whoever has the most criminals in the state of Florida athletics will have the best record in state. Since UF has started raiding former U and FSU delinquents, their record has improved and the Alachua county police force has been worked to the bone. What do you expect when you recruit kids from Lakeland? It's a ghetto in the orange groves. You have to try hard to accomplish ghettohood in the sticks.

WWTTD? He'd look the other way like every other paper Christian and UF fan and say "just win baby".

Yeah if true he has got to go! I know Rainey was one of his, his wifes and kids favorite players/students and was like a son to them but the UofF can not afford to keep him on the team and shouldnt know matter how good he is.

IMHO, if it comes out that he did indeed threaten the life of his on again, off again girlfriend, he should be booted off the team. If the lady ask you to leave, it was for a reason. I know we don't know the whole story obviously at this time, but you just don't act like that. Be a man and walk away from the situation until cooler heads prevail. Being a member of a high-caliber football team you have to a higher standard to live by because you are in the media spotlight. Football player or not, it's still wrong to threaten people's lives.

This seems like a reasonable approach for now...but if all of the allegations are true, as a gator fan, I would be very disappointed to see him not kicked off the team

Addazio: Rainey 'is no longer part of the team'

the actual quote was "Chris Rainey is not a part of our team right now" He will likely be suspended from team activities until further info comes out.
