TCU to Big East? Then it can't be the 'Big East'

CBS's Dennis Dodd passed along a report today that the Big East is showing some interest in TCU, of all schools. It's hardly a geographic fit, though Dodd rightly points out that DFW isn't exactly convenient for the Mountain West either.

But while we were dismayed in years past to see the Big Ten (and then the Big Twelve) keep their conference names the same despite their changing their membership numbers, at least then we understood; there's some precedent for using numbers as your brand name, after all. It happens.

Redefining the cardinal directions, however, is where we draw the line. If the Big East takes in TCU, then it can't be called the Big East anymore. We rolled our eyes when they moved west in 2005, but at least DePaul and Marquette are still east of the Mississippi. TCU, however, is a deal-breaker. Fortunately for the conference brass, however, we've compiled several more agreeable alternative names.

  • TCU and the Eight Dwarfs
  • Big Manifest Destiny
  • Big Pretty Much Whoever
  • Please Play Football With Us Notre Dame
  • Big East Southwest North
  • TCU's Annual Automatic BCS Bid
  • Big

I stopped reading when you said TCU has never played for a national championship.  You lost all credibility.

Really?  Lets see TCU 1 National Championship and perhaps 2 depending upon which poll you prefer back in the Davey O'Bryan Days.  True the 60's and 70's were horrific but we did play in the Bluebonnet Bowl in the 84 and Independence Bowl in 94 before we hit our current run starting around 99.

Oh, one last thing, nice to see how you folks thing they would run through the conference, seeing as how from 1960-1999 they were never ranked and this coming from playing in conferences like the MWC and conference USA, but I will give them props that over the last ten years they have finished 7 times in the Top 25 (four times no higher then 19).  SO YOU ALL KNOW, WVU IS THE CLASS OF THE CONFERENCE, ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!  TCU CAN'T EVEN PLAY TO THEIR PAST RECORD!!!!!!!

WOW........seriously?  Now let me start off by saying that I have a lot of respect for TCU and I always have, BUT according to your NEW conference names and the success of TCU, lets hold up a minute.  #1:  TCU has never played for a national championship, the BE is all time with members now and past 7-4.  #2:  The BE since 2002 has had an average of at least 3 teams finish in the Top 25 six times teams has finished in the Top 10 (that is out of a conference that has only 8 teams in it).  Since the inception of the BCS system, the BE has won 1 national championship.  Since 2005 the BE has won 3 BCS games and lost 3 since the move of the other three teams.  AND, in 1999 the PAC 10 as of Nov 1, had no teams even in the Top 25, so how many of you were screaming for them to not to be an AQ for the BCS?  I am pretty sure none of you!!!  Yes the BE is having a horrible year right now and there is no denying that fact, but before you start tougting how TCU would walk through the BE, you better stop and thing again.  Oh and the last thing, historically the BE schedule strength is much tougher then the MWC or the WAC.  So before you start spouting info, better step back and look statiscally who's better.  Enough said.  PLEASE, LETS US NOT EVEN DISCUSS BASKETBALL!!!!!!

TCU to Big East? Then it can't be the 'Big East'

Anyone saying that Cincy does not have any basketball history does not know basketball history.  Ever heard of Oscar Robertson?

Well if you're going to change that, how about the WAC? How can the WESTERN Athletic Conference have Louisiana Tech as a member?
