Boise State could be atop BCS rankings

No matter what you feel about the BCS system that college football currently uses to help determine its national champion, the fact is that it is that we're all stuck with it -- can you guess how I feel? -- for the time being.  We're also less than a week away from the first BCS rankings of 2010 to be released, as they'll come out on Sunday following this weekend's games.

According to some projections, chaos could be accompanying them.  Well, more chaos than usual.

Jerry Palm runs the website collegebcs.com , and according to his calculations, at the moment the top team in the BCS rankings would be none other than the Boise State Broncos.  Palm's ratings have the top five looking like this:
  1. Boise State
  2. Oregon
  3. TCU
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Ohio State
Yes, that's right, two of the top three teams in the BCS rankings currently come from non-AQ conferences in the WAC and Mountain West.  Ohio State, who is ranked first in both the AP, Coaches and Harris Poll, are in fifth thanks to one computer ranking having them ranked 22nd.

Granted, it's likely this will all change as Boise continues to play its WAC schedule.  Still, the fact that Boise State is ranked so highly now has to make some members of the BCS a bit queasy.

Boise State could be atop BCS rankings

First of all, Last years games have no bearing on this year. and second of all, Boomtown, did you actually watch last years Fiesta Bowl?  It was neck and neck through the 4th Qtr.  If all of you BCS idiots don't want a Non-AQ team in the NC, Then vote for a playoff.  Otherwisw stop the whining!

They seem to do fine when they make it to a big bowl game, and playing those so called big teams. I am not a fan of Boise, but give them a chance. And as for there schedule, who out of the big schools would want to schedule them, if that big team lost that would totally tear up any bis schools season, and make more of a case for Boise.

Boise State could be atop BCS rankings

The only group that has officially called for a playoff was the SEC.  I have not heard the Boise coach or administration call for one.  Maybe I missed it, but if I did, I would like to see what they actually said. Fans of Boise or any of the other smaller schools calling for a playoff means little to nothing.  Fans do not speak for the administration of a school or conference.

Boise State could be atop BCS rankings

BSU didnt beat Wyoming by more pts thatn TCU did. Both teams beat them by 45, TCU held them to 0 pts unlike BSU.

First off, BSU did beat wyoming by more pts.  The final score was 56-6.  TCU vs. Wyoming 45-0.  That looks like more points to me which equals a more impressive win.  PLUS, Boise State had it's entire second string in the 3rd quarter, and it's entire 3rd string in the 4th quarter.

Correct me if i'm wrong, wasn't TCU's 1st string in that entire game??

-----------------------

Dude, both teams won by 45. BSU didnt beat them by more pts. BSU scored more pts than TCU did but the margin of victory was the same. BSU let Wyoming score, TCU didnt. I think picthing a shutout looks more impressive than allowing a team score on you.

No , TCU 1st stringers were not in the game. Why would they be when they are up by so much. They started to pull them out in the 3rd qtr. But BSU and TCU did play there starting QB's the entire 3rd qtr. Andy Dalton was pulled out in the 4th, because the possesion had carried over to the 4th qtr. Thats a stupid comment by you.

Stats were about the same for BSU and TCU. A 4pt win difference doesnt say much on who played better. Stats were pretty close for both teams. That game can be only a positive for both teams if OSU keeps winning. BSU beating them 4pts more than TCU isnt going to give them any kind of advantage.

Boise State could be atop BCS rankings

Here's the thing. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either schedule to play Boise and prove it there, or vote them in to play for the NCS and prove it there. It is pretty funny who is calling for playoffs all of a sudden. In that sense I think that BSu and TCU are doing good things for the college football landscape regardless of wheter they actually get to the NCS or not...though I want to see one of them whoop up on a sorry excuse of a BCS team. And then, AFTER BSU or TCU win we get to listen to all the excuses about why _______ (sorry excuse BCS team) lost cause they weren't up for it; it was a let down game; they were tired after such a long season; whaaa whaaaa...go change your diapers... DIV I FOOTBALL . Step up or shut up. Heck, we'll even play on a "nuetral field" HAhahhahh

No matter how many times you post it, VaTech is still not 4-0 in conference.  They are 2-0 in the very weak ACC and are 4-2 overall.  If you are going to argue with facts, they should be correct.

Hey donkey flopper

A 4 point difference is an advantage because it's 4 more points than what TCU scored.  I didn't say that it was a HUGE adavantage, I just said it was an advantage.

You better start getting the facts before you go posting stuff on here.

BSU didnt beat Wyoming by more pts thatn TCU did. Both teams beat them by 45, TCU held them to 0 pts unlike BSU.

OSU never played Arkansas.

My bad, I meant to say Arizona

Since VT got beat by James Madison, VT does nothing for BSU. They won 4 in a row against less than mediocre teams. Still does nothing for BSU.

At the end of the season the only thing OOC games (James Madison)  count for is determining what bowl you play in.  Your conference record (which VT is 4-0 right now) determines who is the conference champion.  If VT wins out in there conference, then that makes Boise State look superb in the sense that we beat a big 6 conference champion.  Why do you think we got the fiesta bowl last year??  Because we be Oregon who was the PAC 10 conference champ at the end of the year.

But the AFU and UTAH game together will out weigh Nevada by far

I will agree with you there.  If AF wins out until they play TCU and Utah continues to win out and TCU beats them both, then yes that is far more impressive than BSU beating Nevada.  However, I still think the simple fact that we just beat TCU in the fiesta bowl with almost identical teams returning this year on both sides, TCU will be kept behind Boise State if we win out.

SEC is just too good this year and are going to beat each other out of a National Title game...looks like my midseason pick is Oklahoma/Nebraska winner vs. Oregon.  (Not saying I want this or even think it is deserving)

Don't let those bothersome facts get in the way of your bias....  You sound ridiculous trying to say Boise State was "outplayed" by TCU last year.  Is this Mark May?  Craig James, in disguise???
