The BCS rankings were just released on ESPN, and seeing Boise State at No. 3 is, at this point, trouble for the Broncos.

What's important to note here is that the BCS standings are, for the most part, resume rankings, and unlike teams in the power conferences, the cream of Boise's resume is done. Yes, the Broncos play in the WAC, but they've only played two of those eight games against that WAC competition thus far. Meanwhile, cupcake non-conference schedules are still being more heavily considered than conference games at this point in the season.

In other words, Boise State's not going to make its case on the field any better than it already has from here on out.

Now, this isn't to say that Boise State's chances are completely doomed; far from it. The Broncos are still ranked third in the BCS rankings, and there isn't much chance of them dropping any games and submarining their title chances from here until the end of the season. If Oregon or Oklahoma lose, the Broncos are in decent position. Their problem is that if teams like Auburn or LSU go undefeated, those teams are basically locks to pass Boise State -- and TCU's certainly not out of the picture, with its high-profile Mountain West Conference schedule still yet to come.

Still, though, the fact remains that Ohio State, Alabama, and Nebraska have all lost, and Boise State still needs help to get into the title game. That's not good news for the Bronco faithful in Idaho tonight.

I think at this point in time it is, for those Bronco fans who hold out hope for a NC game. Win out, and the BCS game should be there. THAT is not bad news. Far from it...

dwadesooner, it is the sport, not the set up that has exploded in popularity. at one time the NBA was awesome, look at it now. baseball used to be king in spectator sports, not anymore. you are mentally challenged if you think that the BCS is responsible for college football's popularity. there are a lot of factors that pushed football ahead of basketball, but the bcs is not one of them. the bcs was the solution for crowning a national champion when football started it ascent to what is a fever pitch now. And to this gem Name one single sport where the regular season means more then college football. The regular season means everything to baseball that has the smallest PLAYOFF sample of any pro sport. And, the regular season only means anything to college football, IF you play in the right conference. We may have 5 undefeated teams at the end of the year. I wonder how we could see which undefeated team is better? Maybe we should have them play eachother. Nah, lets just vote on it. Your Villanova vs Georgetown debate is senseless. How many times does one team have to beat another to prove they are better? As many times as is required. If Georgetown is the obvious better team, than they should have no problem beating them when it counts than when it doesn't count, as you say. There are more basketball games on TV during the season than the more popular football. Poor argument.

Are you serious about your post. You will not get a Top 10 recruiting class unless your in one of the top recruiting conference. NO Five Star or 4 Star wil turn down SEC, ACC, PAC-10 scholarship over MWC. The stuff they are able to offer is way better then what Boise can offer. The stupid part of your point is that having top recruiting classes does not translate into respect. Boise takes 2 and 3 star players and turns them into 4 or 5 stars during their playing career.

Pimpslapped looks like college football has it figured out. Second only to the NFL in popularity and revenue. And not a distant second, but over taking Pro football. While college basketball dwindles in popularity and revenue. So much for that side of your argument, and NO ONE wants to see a Butler who played no one all year long win a National Title, except Butler fans and those that don't have dog in the fight, yet another reason to go against your hot at tournament time argument. Getting it wrong is a Villanova team that lost to Georgetown three times, win one and get crowned champs as a 10 loss team. How many times does one team have to beat another to prove they are better? Going to make the argument that Villanova was the best team now? PUHLEESE, even they know they weren't the best team. That is what I want to see. The best team crowned at the end. The one who earned their way there through competition. Now you can follow my threads, and find that I mostly defend Boise State, they do what they do with what they got. Like it or not the BCS has created fever pitch throughout college football, we have gone from two games being shown on a Saturday with a modest share, to at least 10 games you can catch on normal cable, and the rest on a pay per view schedule.  So don't go around saying College Basketball has it right, they don't. 64 teams is way too many. In fact that is when most people start picking up watching the games is at tourney time. Same as in Pro Basketball. Both sports are a distant second to NFL and College FB.

Name one single sport where the regular season means more then college football. Only rodeo and nascar, if you count rodeo and nascar as sports, where you accumulate points throughout season, but in that sport it is already decided pretty much going into the finals, not so with College Football. Regular season and the finals keep you hanging on to the very end. Look at the buzz, it is incredible.

You comment would almost make sense but you have forgot one thing. A bigger conference will not accept Boise State because their other progams are not on the level the foorball team currently is. Now if they let them join for football only, then Boise can go to a bigger and better conference, Until then, Boise State football will be held back due to the other sports performances.

I have to disagree when you say previous seasons don't have an impact. I don't think you can honestly say Ohio State had looked more impressive than Oregon when both were undefeated this season. Yet Ohio State remained ranked ahead of Oregon until their loss this weekend. Did the Rose Bowl have an impact on voters maybe?

Either way, I agree the season we are in is the only one that matters. Unfortunately, we will never no how good the non-AQ schools are because they face an uphill battle against history and perception. It's all up to the voters and will never be decided on the field as it should be.

Hey Diff. Looks like they have plenty of respect to me. What is your idea of respect? Must be different from reality. Orrrr is it YOU don't respect them? That must be it. Sane people respect them, so do the computers. Poor Diffendale, what is the color of the sky in your world?

Nice try Ghurkas. Va Tech will not even make the championship game after they lose to UM. FSU will win the ACC. I do agree that Oregon state will win the Pac 10 thus strengthening Boise's cause. I would love to see Boise play TCU/Utah for NC and turn this joke of a run for the championship on its ear!

@ uraduffass...Boise has the same team on the field that beat Oregon last year...the Ducks don't (but, yes, the Ducks may have a better team this year...but i doubt it). Boise WILL play the Ducks this year (& beat them again) either in the Rosy Bowl or the NCG.
