The BCS rankings were just released on ESPN, and seeing Boise State at No. 3 is, at this point, trouble for the Broncos.

What's important to note here is that the BCS standings are, for the most part, resume rankings, and unlike teams in the power conferences, the cream of Boise's resume is done. Yes, the Broncos play in the WAC, but they've only played two of those eight games against that WAC competition thus far. Meanwhile, cupcake non-conference schedules are still being more heavily considered than conference games at this point in the season.

In other words, Boise State's not going to make its case on the field any better than it already has from here on out.

Now, this isn't to say that Boise State's chances are completely doomed; far from it. The Broncos are still ranked third in the BCS rankings, and there isn't much chance of them dropping any games and submarining their title chances from here until the end of the season. If Oregon or Oklahoma lose, the Broncos are in decent position. Their problem is that if teams like Auburn or LSU go undefeated, those teams are basically locks to pass Boise State -- and TCU's certainly not out of the picture, with its high-profile Mountain West Conference schedule still yet to come.

Still, though, the fact remains that Ohio State, Alabama, and Nebraska have all lost, and Boise State still needs help to get into the title game. That's not good news for the Bronco faithful in Idaho tonight.

I wouldn't say OU is avoiding Oregon. Their only win was a screwing by an on-side kick the officials blew the call for Oregon in Eugene.

BCS rankings bad news for Boise State

All of you elitist,  powerhungry BCS conference snobs need to remind yourselves of one thing....Boise State destroyed both of the teams that are now #1 and #2 and...are you ready for this?....wait for it...those two teams (Oklahoma and Oregon) have never beat Boise State!  Not once!  I have pondered why so many of you have this mindset that BSU is inferior to all of your "legit big league teams" and have come to this conclusion:  You hate having to share your power with anybody.  It reminds me of England when they controlled us during the 13 Colonies days.  They were pompous, arrogant and thought they were better than everybody else!  We all know what happened to them...Just like what will happend to all of you this season.  An outsider with a longshot will destroy all of your dreams:)  Enjoy your red wine for now, but be ready.  The end is near.

Blah blah blah... you point to 1-2 wins a year against "quality teams" and expect to be awarded a shot at the BCS national championship game because your team plays the likes of Wyoming and New Mexico State. Join a conference that has 4-5 top 25 teams automatically built into their schedule every year and then state your case. Conversely, why doesn't Boise go independent and schedule "overrated" teams like Texas and Oklahoma every year, anytime - anyplace? That's how the Miami Hurricanes and FSU Seminoles cut their teeth.

You Broncos fans think you have a legitimate gripe about not getting any respect from the BCS or the pollsters... ask Joe Paterno about 1968-1969, 1973 and 1994. They were screwed over in 1968 by the Rose Bowl (#1 OSU vs. #2 USC) and then screwed over by the Rose Bowl again 26 years later as a member of the Big Ten. They also got screwed over by Notre Dame in 1969 and 1973.

Too bad it isn't 1984... you might have had a chance.

The BCS is designed to pick the best two at the end of the season, any polls before the final one are useless. Boise recruits on the same level as Tulsa, that might even be a stretch, and the reality is that no team that recruits at that level is the best team in the country. It's simply not possible considering the teams who bring in that top talent are largely extremely well coached just as Boise is. Elite talent+elite coaching trumps mediocre talent+elite coaching. People always ask what can Boise do and my answer is recruit top ten classes consistently and then I'll give you the benefit of the don't regarding your awful overall schedule. That's reality whether people Boise fans like it or not.

uhhhhhh.............. i'm pretty sure if the PAC 10 would have invited Boise State, they would have jumped without a second of thought. Escaping mid-level status is not an option for Boise State, it's simply comes down to opportunity. Until a major conference invites them, their is simply not much they can do to gain a higher profile. Moving to the MWC will help, but not as much as they might have initially expected following BYU and Utah defections.  I doubt the PAC 10 will ever invite Boise State, imo any further expansion from the PAC 10 will involve Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. Outside of Boise State taking the same risk as BYU and going independent they have little chance of leaviong behind their mid-major shadow.

The SEC is not very good this year.  I would still take Alabama against any other team, Auburn looks to have a very good offense, and LSU is a horrible #6 team.  I know they keep winning, but they look so horrible doing it, I can't take them seriously as a NC contender.  Of course, your handle suggests you may be too biased to see straight.
Also, OU was beaten by Florida and LSU in two of their last three NC games, but I would hardly say either game was a drubbing.  If you didn't know, USC plays in the PAC 10.  They are the team that drubbed OU in a NC game.  The only other SEC team OU played in a bowl recently was Arkansas, and the Razorbacks had about 50 yards of offense in a loss.

The system is what it is and any changes would only make it worse. If you make it so non big conference schools can get an equal footing to bigger competition schools, then you would see more dropping out of those big conferences in favor of cream puff paths to the BCS. If the broncos want to be the top dog they need to consider leaving their mid level conference for one of the big boys and prove they can do it on the big stage. Otherwise be happy with any national coverage and a chance at a big time bowl (which they deserve). #3 isn't the worst thing in the world.

Oklahoma is about the biggest joke to be in the BCS #1 pick.  They are worse off than Ohio State being there for a week.
Last three times Oklahoma ever thought of going to a national game, they were drummed by SEC teams just like Ohio State.

If you want to lay claim to a national title, play something worth playing and quit playing Jr. College teams to make your position.
Try an SEC schedule and see how you play, maybe .500 if you are lucky.
Same applies to BS and Oregon, play someone if you want to lay claim to a title.

Lets see,  2006  Florida beat OS,  2007, LSU beat OS,  2008  Florida beat Florida, 2009, Alabama

Since 2000, SEC teams have won half of the national titles.  Look out, Auburn, LSU, and Alabama will win another one.

I tried to post a response to tannim, but the site seemed to add it as a new comment.  Kastmaster, you are as uninformed as tannim.

You forgot to mention OU's blowout over Florida State, who's 6-1 now.  Most reasonable people would consider that a quality win.  Also, why would you say they avoid Oregon?  They've played a home and home with Oregon in the 00s, and played them in a bowl.
I also don't understand your logic in saying that Boise has a strong case for #1 but OU is a joke in that spot.  You can't seriously consider wins over VaTech and Oregon State more impressive than wins over Air Force, Fla State, Cincy and Texas.  At least not enough to say that one team has a serious case and the other is a joke.  That sounds absurd to me.
You also say that OU only has one ranked team left on it's schedule, Mizzou, when they still have to play OkState in Stillwater in addition to a likely ranked opponent in the Big 12 championship, assuming they go on to win the Big 12 South.
Is this post intended to be ironic, or are you really this uninformed?
