The BCS rankings were just released on ESPN, and seeing Boise State at No. 3 is, at this point, trouble for the Broncos.

What's important to note here is that the BCS standings are, for the most part, resume rankings, and unlike teams in the power conferences, the cream of Boise's resume is done. Yes, the Broncos play in the WAC, but they've only played two of those eight games against that WAC competition thus far. Meanwhile, cupcake non-conference schedules are still being more heavily considered than conference games at this point in the season.

In other words, Boise State's not going to make its case on the field any better than it already has from here on out.

Now, this isn't to say that Boise State's chances are completely doomed; far from it. The Broncos are still ranked third in the BCS rankings, and there isn't much chance of them dropping any games and submarining their title chances from here until the end of the season. If Oregon or Oklahoma lose, the Broncos are in decent position. Their problem is that if teams like Auburn or LSU go undefeated, those teams are basically locks to pass Boise State -- and TCU's certainly not out of the picture, with its high-profile Mountain West Conference schedule still yet to come.

Still, though, the fact remains that Ohio State, Alabama, and Nebraska have all lost, and Boise State still needs help to get into the title game. That's not good news for the Bronco faithful in Idaho tonight.

BCS rankings bad news for Boise State

You know what I love most about Boise State?  Not only their excellent, top-notch talent of a team, but their fans.  Yes, their fans.  Quite possibly the definition of humble.  #3 is NOT "bad news" for Boise State.  It's an honor.  I will bet money that many Bronco fans know they can complete at #1 or #2 for the NCG, but do you see them whining about it?  Hardly.

Instead, they do the best they can, for as long as they can.  And that is win, win WIN.  And I agree with the post above me.  Jokelahoma at #1 is the best example about how the B ullC rapS ystem always favors the name of the school, not how they perform on the field.

Won by 7 points against Utah State?  Please...Fresno State beat them by 17 points.
Won by a pathetic 2 points against Cincinnati, the two time defending Big East champs?  Please....Fresno State beat them by 14 points.

That's two wins Jokelahomha has, that Fresno State ranked #66 on CBS ALSO won.  Hardly the "resume" to be ranked #1 at this point in time.

BCS is biased and you know it.

BCS rankings bad news for Boise State

IOW, the BCS does what it does best, which is screw over the non-AQ teams.

Oklahoma is a joke at #1.  They survive Air Force by a FG at home--hardly a quality victory, and the same against Cincinnati by 2 on the road--two teams they should be able to steamroll.  Ditto creampuff Utah St., which they only beat by a TD.  Even beating overrated Texas by 8 isn't really a quality win.  Of their six victories, no quality wins, three rollovers by a TD or less, and currently none of those wins are against ranked teams save Texas, who is too inconsistent to be ranked and is #22 based on reputation alone, and they only have Missouri ranked on their remaining schedule.  That's hardly a top-rated schedule.

This is why the computers need to be tossed--they factor in garbage like the so-called "strength of schedule" when the AQ teams schedule lousy teams and still get ranks, while dodging real competition.

Oregon might have a strong case for #1, and Boise St. does as well.  Ironic that Bosie St has beaten both of them in games recently while Oklahoma dodges Oregon in non-con and bowl games.  That's be real comeptition for them, had tehy they guts to play them.

But Jokelahoma does not.  Their ank is based on myth and reputation, not actual results.

Hence the BCS is correctly known as the BullCrap System.
