Firing Turner Gill won't be cheap

It's time to dump a bucket of ice-cold water over the heads of all those Kansas fans out there who would like to see Turner Gill fired following the season.  Sorry, folks, but it's not going to happen.  At least, not unless you all start one of the greatest fundraising campaigns in school history.  Why won't the school fire Gill this year?

Because it would cost them $8 million.

See, when Lew Perkins signed Gill to a five-year, $10 million deal before the season, he didn't include a buyout clause in the deal.  Why?  Who knows.  You would think that after the school was forced to pay Mark Mangino so much money after firing him, they might learn the value of the buyout clause, but apparently not.

Making matters worse, it's not like Kansas would have years to pay Gill the $8 million, it would have 90 days.

So get over it, Jayhawks fans.  Gill isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and nor should he be.  I know that Gill's first season in Lawrence has been an unmitigated disaster.  Aside from an upset over Georgia Tech that gets harder to comprehend ever week, the season has been a nightmare.

Still, I feel the need to remind you that this is Gill's first year.  It takes time to rebuild a program, and let's remember that it's not like the Jayhawks were in great shape when Gill got there, or else he wouldn't have been hired in the first place.

But I hate idiot posters that can't wait to point out mistakes

You mean like correcting you're instead of youre?

as if where Gill coached at made ANY difference in the world to what I was posting

It does because your premise is that he struggled (he didn't) but if that is the premise of your argument and you don't even know where he coached. Come on...We're supposed to take that seriously?

You seem to thrive on informing the world where SOLICH coached at,

You mean coaches at.  He coached at Nebraska, you probably didn't know that.

As far as commenting on the blog, my point is running a guy after a half a season is stupid.  Gill has plenty of experience and he will be a great coach for Kansas.  Just going to take a couple years to get the culture turned around.

Well Jim, I for one have enjoyed our banter.  I think we should get a weekday drive radio show.

I love Nebraska.  But I hate idiot posters that can't wait to point out mistakes, as if where Gill coached at made ANY difference in the world to what I was posting.  The reason I brought up Callahan was simple.  You seem to thrive on informing the world where SOLICH coached at, figured you wanted everyone else to know what he was up to.  Because this thread CANNOT move forward without that useless information.

If you had any reading comprehension, the purpose of this thread was two things.  One, Mangino should still be coaching Kansas.  Second, Gill needs to have a TON more coaching experience before he gets another chance at a BCS conference team.

Perhaps you should stick to commenting on the thread's substance rather than point out worthless information.  This thread has run its course.

I didn't bring up where they coach or coached.  You did.  Turner Gill struggled at Ohio...remember typing that?  If it's irrelevant then why would you bring it up?  For that matter why bring up Callahan.  Do I miss the great coaches at Nebraska?  Sure I do, along with the NFL caliber talent and the consistant 10+ wins a season.  Who wouldn't.

Are you even a Nebraska fan?  You come across like a moron.  A moron with good grammar but a moron nonethless.

Your punctuation needs work.  Figured I would be an arse and point that out, no matter how worthless it is to most posters.  Much like where Gill and Solich coached or coach at.  Irrelevant to say the least.  You sound like a guy who really misses the GREAT coaches Nebraska had.  Where is Callahan coaching at??

Sorry Dustin, but really could give a #$%^ less where Solich coached at.  And my mistake on Gill, again really don't care about Ohio or Buffalo.  Don't care where Eric Crouch is either, playing or coaching.  Get the point???

How pathetic for anyone to bring race into this.  There was talk of Gill being hired at both Auburn and Mississippi St.  Looking at the results, it sure looks like both programs made the correct choices in who they hired.  Mississippi St has already hired a black coach, and that did not work out well for them either.  I liked Sly, but he needs to stick with coaching the O line somewhere.  As far as embarassing, I would say that honor goes to twymail and that ridiculous post.  Race baiters are as bad as racists.

Way to go Gill....make all the racists at Mississippi State look good for ignoring you

It's one year.  Give the guy a chance, he's changing the whole culture of the program.  He's a quality coach and he will be successful.

Way to go Gill....make all the racists at Mississippi State look good for ignoring you....You are pretty much garunteeing that there won't be a black coach in the SEC again for another 50 years....All the racist rednecks get to gloat and give the "I told you so" speech to all those that felt you were more qualified for that job...How embarassing....
