Michigan wins 3OT epic; RichRod safe?

At one point, it looked like Michigan had it in the bag, up 38-31 with the ball and driving deep into Illinois territory. Then it looked like they had no chance, down 45-38 with time for only one drive and Tate Forcier in for the injured Denard Robinson , out with either a head r hand injury (again).

But Forcier converted that drive into a critical last-minute touchdown, and Michigan survived three overtimes to win today's nominee for Big Ten game of the year 67-65 when Nathan Scheelhaase couldn't get a two-point conversion passoff. The game featured all kinds of superlatives and records, but maybe the most impressive is that Michigan receiver Roy Roundtree is now the school's single-game record holder for receiving yardage, having hauled in 9 catches for 246 yards. Even considering the addition of three extra frames, the amount of offense is staggering: 676 total yards for the Wolverines, 561 for the Illini. And the game provided some nice redemption for Forcier, the one-time golden boy who lost his job to Robinson in the offseason and began his outing today by setting up an Illini score with an unforced fumble.

But the biggest winner of all is Rich Rodriguez , who has his team bowl-eligible for the first time in his three seasons and could even push to seven wins with a victory over injury-riddled Purdue . As powerful as the Michigan offense looks, it seems unlikely the usually-stolid Michigan administration will rfire him after a bowl season over simply asking him to make defensive staffing changes. RichRod had never been in more trouble after last week's defensive meltdown against Penn State , but he might never have been safer than he is after this week's victory.

That's crazy, but it's also week-to-week business as usual in the college football business.

Michigan wins 3OT epic; RichRod safe?

I grew up in Ann Arbor during the Bo years and even though I attended the University of Florida I still follow the program.

Give him time.  The program was sliding before he took over and that is one reason why Carr bailed when he did.  If you replace him now, then Michigan just becomes the next Notre Dame!

Besides...the problem is not Rich Rod.  The problem is the fans!!!  You are all the same whiny little bitches that will turn around and say, "look, I told you he only needed one more year to get things turned around", when he has the team 11-1 next year.

Rich Rod had some of the best teams in college football at WV and that was without the talent pool that he has at Michigan.  Be patient and you will once again be at the top of the food chain n the big ten.

Notice I said the big ten....the SEC dominates all!

Leave Ri$h -Rod alone!

The poor guy is only three years into a seven year rebuilding program. Just leave it alone, it will make things ten times worse to pull him out now.

I mean really, when was the last time you had someone ranting on the side lines firing up a defense like he does, I don´t remember Bo or Floyd Car doing that. ( they usually didn´t have to, but that´s the point) guess he can´t fire them up all week.

Also, I think it´s great barely beating the Illini 67-65, at HOME, in triple OT, it will get the guys ready for their next career in Arena Football that folded didn´t it? Oh well.

67-65 great basketball score - What a sad day for the Urine and Blew and the once envied and once feared defense.

The saddest part of the whole affair, running onto the field like they had beaten a "Ranked" opponent. Wink

Oh Lloyd how we miss you. Yes RR offense is impressive and is setting a ton of records, yes that is where his coaching talents stop and his recruiting for defense and special teams is horrible, yes he is the one that hires all of the coachs so he is to blame. But I wish U of M would have never hired him or better yet, that Lloyd wouldn't have retired. What I will miss the most is looking around the NFL and seeing ex-U of M players, with RR, there won't be any, really none, OK, maybe one or two every 3 years or so, with Lloyd is was QB university and so many other position, you watch Ryan Mallet will be a good NFL QB and was a Lloyd man, I'll take Lloyd over RR anyday, plus with Lloyd the program was clean.

Dick Rod and the entire crummy staff need to go regardless how the seasone ends. Winning 6 games DOES NOT get it done anywhere in college football and should not be tolerated at Michigan. How is it that Michigan does not go after Bill Cowher? With the insane amount of money they could throw at him from boosters and alumni, ect. along with Michigan's tradition, how could a student athelete resist his enthusiasm and winning ways? I know people say he is an "NFL guy" but with enough money he would come to Michigan and build football dynasties, just imagine the defenses he would build... just a thought.

Well that isn't well thought out at all.
Rich Rodriguez's former coach and mentor, Don Nehlen, was an assistant under Bo Schembechler.  That means that RR has more of a Michigan pedigree than Bo did when he was hired.
UM is a world-class university, and hiring a coach who wasn't an assistant under a previous coaching legend is reason enough to lose all respect for the school?  Such narrow-mindedness only embarrasses the fanbase.

Rodriguez is not a Michigan Man, he should have never been hired in the first place, and I lost all respect for the school when he was. I'm disappointed with the win if it means he's safe.

Yes, something has to be done about that defense. The biggest thing that saved Michigan was the fact that the Illnois defense was just as bad.
