No bowl game for the Sun Devils

Following an exciting double-overtime victory over in-state rival Arizona on Thursday night, Arizona State finished the regular season with a record of 6-6, and hoped that it wouldn't be the last game the team played this season.  While six wins is enough to make a team bowl eligible, two of Arizona State's wins came against FCS schools, which didn't leave the Sun Devils with enough wins against the FBS to qualify.

So they appealed to the NCAA in hopes that they'd get a shot to go bowling this season, and pick up some extra practices.  Well, some one once told me to hope in one hand, and something else I'm not allowed to type here in the other.  Guess which hand the NCAA chose!

I'll admit, I did find this decision to be a little bit of a surprise.  I figured that the NCAA would allow Arizona State to go bowling because I thought that a six-win Arizona State team would be more attractive team for a bowl game than a six-win Troy team.

Apparently not.

No bowl game for the Sun Devils

BabeMantle49--It's probably not your fault you are ignorant.  Let me help educate you---ASU had San Jose State (division I) scheduled.  In July 2009, San Jose State backed out to play Wisconsin for more money.  Look up your favorite college team and you can find their non-conference schedule more than 5 years in advance.  To try to schedule any team a year out is extremely difficult. You're right though, why would they want to play/help out an in-state school every year like Northern Arizona University?  Ask Ohio State and Youngstown St.  Either way, ASU gave #2 Oregon it's second closest game (lost by 11 with 7 turnovers,) lost to #4 Stanford by 4 points, and lost on the road to #5 Wisconsin by 1 point.  Let that sink in.  They played 3 of the current top 5 teams close, really close, and you want to chastise them for having to fill a gap created by another school?  Can you name any other school who played 3 of the top 5 teams in the country?  Ignorance is never an excuse.  BabeMantle49, maybe you should stop while you're behind--or being a behind?  Just a thought...

I they could have gotten 1 more yard agains Wisconsin this would be a moot point.Funny that they won't even be bowl eligible when they actually gave a top 5 team their closest scare of the season other than the game they actually lost.

Your attitude about hoping Az.St. would be allowed to go bowling is pathetic!   Should the NCAA grant their appeal it would be rewarding teams for this awfully weak out-of-conference scheduling.

The Sun Devils, nor any FBS team deserves to play in a Bowl Game after scheduling two FCS teams!
