Report: Minnesota hires Jerry Kill

On Sunday night, Northern Illinois held its football banquet, and head coach Jerry Kill was in attendance, though any and all media were kept out.  It appears there was a reason for this.

It seems that Kill wanted to say goodbye to his team in private.

Numerous reports and tweets are saying that Kill has been hired as the next head coach at Minnesota, where he will replace Tim Brewster who was fired earlier this season.  Kill has been at Northern Illinois since 2008 where he's gone 23-16 in three seasons, including a 10-3 mark this season, leading the Huskies to the MAC Championship Game where they lost to Miami of Ohio.

Before coming to NIU, Kill had coached at Southern Illinois, Saginaw Valley State and Emporia State.  The press conference to announce the hire is scheduled at 2pm Central on Monday.

Report: Minnesota hires Jerry Kill

No one thought tressel belonged at Ohio State either when they hired him and look at that program now. Take some time relax Gopher fans and see what this guy can do next year before trying to get him on next plane out of town. The word is that he is a good defensive style coach that will work well in b10 anyway good luck Gophers hope to see you fighting for b10 championships in next couple of years.

Report: BILL@$!#

Please answer me this, was the U of M AD all talk again!  The Gophers were going to go after an "big name, an established coach", and now they get a coach who was spent only three years at the Div. I level.  I will admit coach Kill made Southern Illinois into a solid program, but at the Div. I level he walked into a full team.  NIU had the most returning players when he took over, so is it cool to say our next coach is from the MAC west who is 13-13 in his first two years and and is 0-2 in bowl games.  Remember Brewster...wow this guy can recruit, he will get us the players...now again we got another person who should not be a Div I coach.  Why cant they get this right???  Did they go after anyone else or didnt they want to pay, and got kill on the cheap.  I am soo sick of the Gophers football program.  They will never get it right.

I don't have any doubts that this guy can coach. I know for a fact he is better equipped for a head coaching position over Brewster. My worry is can he get the recruits?

He helped make NIU a respectable team as well as getting them ranked pretty late. I think he will do well.

I was at Southern Illinois when Coach Kill was there, great guy, the players would run through walls for him. He will do OK at Minnesota, somewhere around .500 by his second year which is about good as anyone can reasonably expect there.

I kept hoping that Minnesota wasn't paying attention to coach  Kill. Of course, that would be difficult since NIU beat Minnesota this year. I have kids at both schools; Christmas break should be interesting this year.
