Student newspaper calls out Wisconsin students

With the official announcement that Wisconsin would be going to the Rose Bowl to take on TCU on Sunday, the school put 5,800 student tickets up for sale on its website on Sunday night.  Within 20 minutes every ticket had been sold, and there were plenty of Wisconsin students left in the cold with no way to get to Pasadena without paying for a regular ticket, or perhaps, a scalped one.

Well I know where those Wisconsin students can buy one of those scalped tickets.  They can be bought from a few of those students who have already purchased the student tickets and have no intention of going to the game.  Luckily, thanks to the Badger Herald -- the school's student newspaper -- those students are a lot easier to find.

The paper published a list of names of students who are currently attempting to sell their Rose Bowl tickets on Facebook and other places like Craigslist. The paper also had a special message for those same students.
Truly, there is a special place in Hell for people who buy Rose Bowl tickets with the sole intention of profiting from them. It is entirely unfair to those who actually love this football team and were counting on a cheap face value ticket in order to make the trip to Pasadena an economic reality.
We'll keep printing names of those we catch on Facebook marketplace. And feel free to send an email to editor@badgerherald.com if you know of anybody whose name should be added to the list — particularly the 100 people who have already made a listing on Craigslist.
We also ask this of UW Athletics: Next time, make it so people have to pick their tickets up at the bowl site. That will keep the worst people on campus from cheating the system.

I know an editor who couldn't get tickets!

Seriously, saying there's a special place in hell for these kids is a bit over the line, isn't it?  Most students in college don't exactly have a lot of money lying around because they can only work part-time jobs thanks to that whole "going to school" portion of their day.  So I can't fault a kid for using this as a chance to make some extra beer money.

This is America, after all.  I'm pretty sure that this is exactly how capitalism works.

Student newspaper calls out Wisconsin students

A student newspaper!  This is the funniest story of the year.  Nobody cares, but this is getting some play in the local media.  TCU has a student body of 8000.  If everyone went, there'd still be thousands of seats available for this game.  If you've ever been to a BCS Bowl game that wasn't the National Title Game, you'd know that there will be plenty of cheap tickets available.  You can get into the Sugar Bowl for $5 when it isn't the title game.  NO ONE CARES ABOUT THIS GAME OUTSIDE OF WISCONSIN PEOPLE!!!  I hope these capitalists can make a few bucks off these tickets and buy their way out of Loserville.  Stop eating the cheese, the cheese has gone bad.

Wisconsin was in the Rose Bowl in '99  and '00, didn't they have the same issues?  I just hope those kids that paid for those tickets get stuck with them on Jan 1 while still up there in Wis.  Talking about karma.  BTW, most of those kids that bought the tickets and are selling them probably have no problems with money issues for school, if so, then where did they get money for the tickets to begin with.  Man I love it when someone drums up a sob story just to play devil's advocate.  Please!!!  BTW, I really don't like UW, sorry, you guys beat my Bucks.  Good luck not that you'll need it, TCU should be easy win for you.

"This is a sports website, so please, don't bring your religion into this conversation"  Really? The first line of the statement reads...

"Truly, there is a special place in Hell for people who buy Rose Bowl tickets with the sole intention of profiting from them."

That being said, the students who did buy intended to sell do have every right to do such a thing.  Just as the paper has every right to call them out.  If they are so afraid/ashamed of being identified then maybe they should not have done it.  If they do not care about being identified then more power to them.

This is a sports website, so please, don't bring your religion into this conversation.  That being said, these kids have every right to buy these tickets and sell them.  Sorry if you're a Wisconsin student who has to buy scalped tickets, but as the article states, this is capitalism, not a utopia.  I know when I was a student, I bought and scalped student tickets to concerts and things I had no intention of going to for some extra "beer money."  It was either that or buy Ramen in bulk, and I'm not a big fan of noodles for lunch and dinner.

This is why Auburn has done what they did. Auburn Students must show student ID and drivers license at the stadium in Glendale, AZ to receive their ticket to the National Championship game. I feel sorry for the Wisconsin students who want to use their ticket for what it's supposed to be used for, to go to the game.

Issue 1 - The tickets were given up by the school for students to buy, posession is 9/10 of the law, so once that student has it in hand, he can do with it what he wants.  Does is suck for those students who really wanted to go to the game, YES.  Does it suck for the kid who lucked out and got tickets while working two jobs to pay tuition because mom and dad have been out of work for 2 years, NOPE.

SOLUTION 1 - WILL CALL.  I went to a school where a sell out crowd was about 3,000 and the football field was surrounded by a "snow fence" to keep out people that didn't pay....yet we still had will call for prepurchased tickets.

Issue 2 - last time I checked this was CBSSPORTS.COM not CNBCSPORTS.COM....while I appreciate the political banter in regards to the capitalist system the students are taking advantage of, please save the rest of the arguments for other sites.

SOLUTION 2 - Political debates will never be solved on any chatboard as is...save it for Town Hall meetings.

Issue 3 - Mr. Editor didn't get his tickets.  Your work study / job pays more than the kid scraping trays in the cafeteria that got tickets...Hate is not good color on you.

SOLUTION 3 -  Buy a ticket and stop being a d-bag.  Do you think the editor of my school paper printed the names of all the girls that sold a prepaid meal card to the football team?

SERPENT - So are you saying that all the students that have had thier name listed in the paper should be transfered to the UW - Trenton Campus?  Love it.

This proves that there are actually some students at Wisconsin with brains, buy low, sell high. Glad to see some people didn't just go to Wisconsin for the beer and donuts. Although it does show the incompetency of the Wisconsin athletic department, you always hold a lottery and make the students pick-up at the bowl site or you will get this every time.
