Gene Chizik hitting the incentives jackpot

Far be it from us to criticize a fellow CBS property, but it has always bugged this blogger that Rod Roddy always introduced The Price is Right game "Plinko " by telling contestants they could win $25,000 (and, later, $50,000). While that was technically correct, the number of hoops required for contestants to actually win that amount -- winning the maximum five chips, then having all of them slide down the virtually random Plinko board perfectly into the $5,000/$10,000 slot -- made it so unlikely that the stakes for Plinko were, secretly always much lower than the figure announced. (Much like, say, an NFL free agent contract.)

Why do we mention this? Because when Gene Chizik signed his head coaching contract with Auburn, it felt like he'd agreed to play a game of Plinko with his salary. As Jay Tate of the Montgomery Advertiser detailed again recently , Chizik's original base salary of $1.9 million fell well below typical SEC market value (his predecessor at Auburn, Tommy Tuberville, earned upwards of $4 million), but a cavalcade of incentives gave Chizik the potential to earn far, far more than that. The catch: when Chizik arrived fresh off of his 5-19 stint at Iowa State, the overwhelming majority of those incentives looked so far beyond Chizik's reach they might as well not have existed.

As it turns out, though, if Chizik's time at Auburn has been a game of Plinko, it's looked something like this:

Entering today, Chizik had already claimed bonuses of $125,000 for winning 12 games, $100,000 for making the SEC Championship Game , $200,000 for winning it, and $25,000 more for having won a 13th game of any kind. With the league's announcement today that Chizik is the AP SEC Coach of the Year (leading an Auburn sweep that saw Cam Newton the conference offensive Player of the Year and Nick Fairley the defensive equivalent), he's pocketed another $100,000, bringing him up to $550,000 total. With national coach of the year honors, a top 5 final poll ranking, and (of course) a BCS national championship all triggering further (and larger) bonuses, Chizik stands to rake in as much as $1.3 million from his team's dream season.

No doubt Chizik would tell you the accomplishments of his team are the cake and the money merely the icing. But there's also no doubt that hauling in a wad of dough that substantial when no one thought you'd see a dime of it must taste awfully, awfully sweet.

beating a girl to cheating on a test and receiving stolen property

Wrong on both accounts, James allegedly "GRABBED A GIRL BY THE THROAT", he did not BEAT her.

And I didn't compare that to $Cam stealing a computer, I compared it the collective events over the course of several years and schools that demonstrates a total lack of moral fibre from this preachers son.

and he didn't have any credits taken away.
  Here's why-

quarterback was facing possible expulsion from the University of Florida for academic cheating when he transferred to junior college in the spring of 2009, FoxSports.com reported Monday.

Newton, a Heisman Trophy front-runner, is said to have been caught cheating three times, including putting his name on someone else's paper without that student's knowledge.

<!-- begin inline 1 -->

Newton decided to leave Florida following a November 2008 arrest after he bought a stolen computer. The charges were dropped last December when he completed a pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders.

According to FoxSports.com, Newton again violated the university's honor code by putting his name on another student's paper and turning it in. Newton was caught after the instructor asked the real author of the paper why he had not turned in his work.

Newton turned in a second paper to the instructor, but that paper was later found to have been purchased off the Internet, according to FoxSports.com. He was to appear for a hearing in front of Florida's Student Conduct Committee during the spring semester of 2009 but instead transferred to Blinn College.

Gordon when you finally get a girl to date you you will understand that they are all crazy and you will want to grab her by the throat and tell her to shut her big mouth.

In that moment of weakness you just might, lord know's I've come close.

Now I'm no saying that it's right to grab a girl by the throat, but I don't know the circumstances and it's hard to judge James.

But cheating on tests and getting caught on numerous occasions, stealing a laptop and pleading guilty to a lesser charge of possessing stolen property and having your father pimp you out to the highest bidder and endlessly lying about it shows more than a moment of weakness.

Holy cow!  You just compared beating a girl to cheating on a test and receiving stolen property?  And said beating was basically ok by comparison?  So you've got twice as many sources at UF that say he wasn't in line to be brought before the academic council, and he didn't have any credits taken away, so this whole cheating thing STILL has no legs.  I guess things are different in Oregon.

Really don't think Oregon fans want to go down this road.

Yes I want to go down this road.

What have you got as your post implies that you're holding back some juicy details.

Do tell...

gordon24-Oregon fans ...I can't seem to recall the players name at this moment, but what about that player that got suspended for hitting his girlfriend?! What a guy.

$cam Newton has demonstrated for years now that he has no scruples.

Really don't think Oregon fans want to go down this road.  The pres of the school is complaining about the lack of money for the actual school and its decline while the athletic facilities continue to be upgraded.  Plasmas at each players locker?  really?  No money floating around there huh?

dryan659-Dukfan, Go back to the Nike factory and make some more Waffle trainers.

The Nike factory is in China and I don't know what a waffle trainer is and I'm pretty sure I have never made one although they sound delicious.

Were you going for humor?
