It's been a few days since Dave Wannstedt "resigned" from his position as head coach at Pitt before giving one of the shortest press conferences in history, and it seems that the school has already gotten started searching for its next head coach.  A couple of names that have popped up early are Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads (pictured).

Holgorsen's name came up as a candidate in a few reports, but if Pitt is planning on interviewing him, he doesn't know it yet.  Holgorsen told NewsOk.com that he hasn't been contacted by Pitt about the job, and when he was asked about whether he'd have any interest in the gig, he told the site that he is "pretty happy where I am at."

Still, just because he hasn't been contacted yet doesn't mean that Pitt has no plans on getting in touch with him.

There's also Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads, who served as defensive coordinator at Pitt from 2000-2007 before leaving to take his current job in Ames.  It's only natural that his name would come up given his history with the school.  While it's likely that Pitt will reach out to Rhoads at some point, as of now, it's unknown whether or they have as of this time.

Rhoads did a great job at Auburn and we will always wish him the best.  He will do a great job no matter where he is.  War Eagle Paul!

Check scoreboard...ISU has scoreboard on Pitt in their last meeting.

Bottom line, Pitt is not a destination job.  Rhoads has an ailing mother within 15 minutes of where he currently lives, a dad that joins the team on the sidelines in Ames on gameday...his dad is also a HS hall of famer here in IA.

Paul sought the ISU job while at Auburn.  If you watch his passion for his job, as displayed on the YouTube locker room celebration at Nebraska last season, you know he's DAMN PROUD TO BE OUR COACH!  He will be able to leave if he wants to, but he's a happy man where he's at...

Wow, looks like we have finally located the lost Iowa State fan.  Even with two less Big 12 teams your Cyclones do not stand a chance, back to your cellar dualforce.

A couple of facts for you 17fan.  This past year Coach Rhoads was paid more at Iowa State than your school was paying. (1.05 million versus 1.01 million).  Second of all, his mother and father both live close by.  He is originally from a town 20 minutes from Ames, Iowa where Iowa State is located.  His salary structure is such that he could earn in a given season up to $1.5 million more than his base here at Iowa State as well.  Your AD will have to put together a pretty impressive package to lure him away from family and home.  Move along to your next candidate please.

You are obviosly an idiot.  Iowa State is located in Ames, not Iowa City.  Rhoads already has a base salary of $950,000

These 2 schools have about the same budgets, and Rhoads grew up in Iowa, his parents still live here.  I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves, but he won't be going to Pitt, unless they offer a heck of alot of money.

Why go to Pitt, same type of program money wise, but a lot shorter leash, and higher expecteations.  I am an ISU grad, we love Rhoads, and he probably will leave someday, but not for Pitt.

Please. It's Pitt. Isn't that Big East? Who cares? Write stories about real football schools from real conferences.
Just look at the possible coaches. Who are they?
I do not care for Oklahoma but I hope they score 100 on the Big Least opponent.

You should do some fact checking of your own, he was the DC at Pitt for several years before he went to Auburn and I believe he was there for only 2 years max.

I don't see Rhoads leaving Iowa State, especially for a job at Pitt.  He's from the area and is extremely passionate about being a Cyclone.  He's starting to build something here in Ames.  The Nebraska win last year and the Texas win this year (I don't care, it's still Texas) opened some eyes.  I'm not saying we're going to win a National Championship anytime in the near future, but 7-5 or 8-4 consistently isn't out of the question.  Of course, that gets you a BCS berth in the Big East.
