Nebraska is entering their Holiday Bowl matchup with Washington as a heavy favorite to repeat the beating they put on the Huskies earlier in the season.  But if the off-field incidents don't slow/stop, the game could become much closer than head coach Bo Pelini would like.

Less than two weeks after defensive lineman Baker Steinkuhler was arrested on suspicion of DUI and suspended for the bowl game, safety Rickey Thenarse was arrested for a similar set of charges - very near the exact same intersection.  Early Sunday morning, Thenarse was cited for DUI, suspended license, and impeding traffic.  According to reports , officers found his 1998 Oldsmobile stopped in the middle of traffic.  Not the best time or place to take a quick cat nap, if you ask me.

The suspension is a tough end to a lengthy career for Thenarse, who has been with the Nebraksa program since 2006.  Earlier on Saturday, the senior wrapped up his academic career in Lincoln participating in graduation.  Now, his athletic career will end with one game left on the schedule.  Bo Pelini expressed deep disappointment in his comments to the media, but seemed hopeful for Thensarse's future.

"Well, the good news is that at least he graduated.
That's breaking news for the Cornhuskers' football program.

In 2009, Nebraska's graduation rate for Football was 3rd in the Big XII. It would also have been 2nd in the Pac 10, 2nd in the Big Ten, Second in the SEC, 4th in the ACC and first in the Big East.

If you're going to make a claim, check your facts.

Black Shirts ? Should be the black and white shirts. NU has had more criminals play through than any othe school. Back when God Tom ran the show, he set up recruiting stations at all the prisons in Nebraska. Lets see, you want stats, 5 rapists, 7 convicted burgulars, 4 domestic issue with punching or kicking a woman part of the charge ( I know in Nebraska thats legal, but not in the rest of the country) and I only found 17 DUI's since 1980. Of course Suh last year was drunk, but got out of the charge of ramming cars and speeding at 02:00 am after beating on some division II school. After they get the snot kicked out of them next year in the big 10, they will once again reload with criminals.  GO BIG RED, GO FAR AWAY, NEVER COME BACK, CAUSE YOU AIN'T WELCOMED HERE

Not totally for sure what your talking about......but Nebraska has a very good athlete graduation rate and is also among the top schools for academic All-Americans. I can see how a Notre Dame fan might misunderstand an instance such as this given you know nothing about Thenarse; hey I'd be more than happy to fill you in though. After losing BOTH his brothers to a drive-by and many friends, Ricky was able to leave Watts Cali. and make it to campus in Lincoln. After a season ending injury he still came back for his sixth year AND graduated.....not too bad for some inner-city kid from one of the worst neighborhoods in America, no?
I'm hoping that all you were doing is well wishing as its difficult to pick up sarcasm in here (sometimes) BUT if your not......maybe do a little research next time.

I still can't understand how 10-3 Nebraska was matched up against 6-6 Washington, who the Huskers already demolished. The Bowl System has serious problems.

no kidding. thenarse has been sitting since bo pelini decided put players in on defense who could tackle.

ricky's m.o. was the big hit...not necessarily sound defense.

baker steinkuhler was sounder, but not really essential to n.u.'s defense (something you'd never have even thought of re his father).

n.u. has defensive players who are better fits in the pelini bros.' defense.

go big red, 122010.

Okay this is media inflation and sensationalism at it's best.  C'mon what is the proportionate amount of graduates that probably got cited this past weekend?  Additionally, what is the number of them that probably were out drinking?    Gee, here's a surprise.  My guess is Chip Patterson probably wasn't squeeky clean in his college days if he even graduated.  Off the field "incidents?"     Poor journalism talents to say the least.

Sad and feel for the guy?   Of course.  But let's quit acting like this is a huge crime for "football players" as opposed to the general population (both on and off campus). Is this guy trying to get a Cam Newton level type of story.    Thenarse hadn't even started or played that much for awhile now.  What a moron trying to capitalize on something that happens nearly every day of the week.  College is only a microcosm of society itself if not even more vulnerable to it.    Get a real job, will ya!!

Absolutely deserves the suspension as well as Baker. Thenarse really hasnt played that much the second half of the year so it won't hurt but losing Baker may? I have a lot of confidence in Pelini to have the backups ready to play at a high level and take care of UW handily.
