RichRod is fired, and for real this time

On Tuesday Rich Rodriguez was fired, and then he wasn't fired. After that he was probably going to be fired, but then he might have talked his way into keeping his job.  Then, finally, the decision was put off until today.

Well the decision is in, and I think this time it's going to stick.  Rich Rodriguez has been fired at Michigan.

The reason I believe it's for real this time is because the school announced that it would be holding a press conference on Wednesday at 12:30pm ET, likely to announce that Rodriguez is out.  According to the Detroit News, Rodriguez will receive a $2.5 million buyout, so he should survive.

The question will now become who replaces Rodriguez at Michigan?  Expect Jim Harbaugh's name to continue being tossed around until he announces he's staying at Stanford or takes an NFL job.  If not Harbaugh, then look for San Diego State's Brady Hoke, or possibly former Michigan football player, and current LSU mad scientist, Les Miles to get some attention.

Yes, that crap won Folorida 2 titles, but, Florida sure isn't Michigan! Different coaches, programs, etc. Meyer would do anything to recruit his players and it showed in the caliber of athlete that went to Florida. Just depends on the players brought in to run the system.

RichRod simply had no clue as to what the word "defense" means.  His offense improved dramatically this season, but his defense was horrid.  He had three years to improve that defense, and all he did was manage to make it worse.  Michigan's handling of the situation was just terrible.  Why would a good head coach like Harbaugh or Miles even consider taking a job at a school that has little, or no clue as to what it is doing?  Do not expect much from Michigan in the near future.  They are at least three years away from challenging in the Big 10+2, now that they basically have to start allover again.

Raise your hands if you are surprised with this decision. As someone who can't stand Michigan, it's a great day! The offense is not the problem; the defense is awful! One of the lowest rated in college football and it won't be fixed overnight. Rodriguez was never the right fit for that storied program. If the next coach doesn't have success in turning the team around in a few years, it will set them back for years to come.

UF won those titles because of a suffocating defense and a once in a lifetime player called Tim Tebow. Perhaps you have heard of him.

That is unfortunate.  Another year under Mr. Rodriguez and Michigan would have been respectable again.  Now another new coach comes in to start over.  Again.  We all demand too much too soon, and I hope other schools will allow a coach the time to actually get his players from high schools, then coach them as college juniors and seniors.  Only then do you know what kind of hiring decision was made.
