Michigan fans may be hoping that they will be able to land Les Miles as their next head coach, a "Michigan man" to pull the program out from frustrating mediocrity.  But as the rumors continue to swirl, the current LSU head coach is telling his players that he isn't going anywhere.

"[Miles] said, 'They have rumors going around about (me) going to Michigan, but it's not true,'" LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson told the Times-Picayune. "'It's nonsense.' He said hasn't spoken to anybody, anything about Michigan. We're going to stick with that and get ready for next year."

Running back Stevan Ridley echoed Jefferson's statements, and the thinking around Baton Rouge appears to be that Miles will be staying parked with the Tigers for the time being.  Those quotes came after LSU's 41-24 win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.  The win wraps up LSU's season with an 11-2 record, tied for second best in the Les Miles era.

If Miles' commitment to LSU is firm, then many speculate that Michigan will begin seriously pursuing San Diego State head coach Brady Hoke.  Hoke was the defensive line coach at Michigan for seven seasons before accepting the head coaching job at his alma mater, Ball State.  Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon has emphasized the focus on defense for the program moving forward, and Hoke would certainly fit the bill to improve that aspect of the Wolverines' game.

Further proof that Les Miles is a whooooole lot smarter than some people give him credit.

This truly deepens my respect and admiration for Coach Miles.  I wish I had been blessed with the opportunity to have been coached by such a person.  LSU is extremely fortunate to have him as a coach and a leader of young men on campus.  He runs a clean and successful program.

This should be a huge morale booster for the team and the LSU community at large.  I can't wait until the Fall!!!

Miles is a great coach but he is not magical.  Look at what the SEC does to be Big10!  Miles will never get the quality of players at Michigan as he will at LSU (or almosr any SEC school).  Going from LSU  to Michigan, for a coach, would be a huge downgrade.  Miles would go through 2-3 years of misery and his rep would be tarnished.  I know that Michigan is bleeding and needs a major overhaul but only a huge emotional tug will get Miles to go.

He is making great money. winning games, etching his way into the NCAA history books and enjoying a great community.  At his age, at LSU, he could become one of the top coaches of all time.

Too many chiefs in the front office at Miami that like to get their hands dirty in personnel and coaching decisions. 49ers front office seems to have a solid line between front office and coaching boundaries. Harbaugh wants control and I don't think he could have that in Miami.

gsgoblue, you are correct.  When it comes to resources, Michigan is the Harvard of the Midwest, but apparently Brandon, being the shrewd businessman he is, will let economic factors weigh into his decision as if Michigan instead had the resources of Oakland Community College.  I also believe that Miles will likely use this renewed courtship only as a means to extort his next pay raise and extension from LSU.  Truly, Michigan is his golden goose!

If "the search" is truly coming down to Miles and Hoke, I am supremely disappointed in Brandon.  He is clearly not his own thinking man to fire RR under the tremendous media pressure and then, like a lemming following a media compass, pursue only the obvious and overanalyzed "Michigan men" Miles and Hoke.

Why can't Brandon just go out and hire THE BEST coach instead of the best ex-Michigan coach.  There are far better coaches out there then Miles and Hoke.

Can someone tell me why Harbaugh would turn down $8 million a year from Miami to go to 49ers for $5 million a year?

Your Daydreaming pal. Michigan has had over 35 years of selling out at over 100,000 a game. Where have you been? I sit and read what you know nothings think you know and it makes me laugh like no tomorrow. No where near the resources? When LSU has to ante up more, and they will, lets see what stupid statements the likes of you has then. I hope Brandon offers Miles 6 million per, just so he can make them (LSU) match the offer.
If Miles leaves, and he just may, it will be because the underappreciation he has been shown for being a high level coach for LSU.

CORRECTION: Michigan does not have NEAR the resources when it comes to paying a head football coach. LSU is one of the only universities in the country whose football team actually supports ITSELF with ZERO funding from the university. In fact, the football team single-handedly supports almost all of the other sports at LSU as well as gives milliions every year to the university's academic institutions. Michigan cannot nearly as easily pony up the money that LSU could pay Miles. Just look at R-Rod....they threw everything they had at him and he still only made half as much as Miles makes now. Keep dreaming. Why would ANYONE want to leave LSU to go to Michigan. Coaches don't leave LSU except to possibly go to the pros. They only get fired. As I recall, there has been exactly only ONE coach to leave voluntarily (Saban), and he still refers to it as "the biggest mistake of my life".

Would be a stupid downgrade in jobs if he moves.
