Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

Those sure are some interesting looking planes in Baton Rouge this week.  If you're into the fun trend that is tracking flights across this country, then you'd already know that the plane belonging to Michigan booster Richard Rogel has been in Baton Rouge for a few days now.  It's also been rumored that Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon took a plane of his own to Dallas over the weekend to meet with Les Miles during the coaches convention.  Whether or not Miles has already had contact with Michigan, we don't know.  What we do know is that it looks like the interview process is about to be made official, as the Detroit News reports that Miles will officially interview with Michigan this week.

Miles is back in Baton Rouge this morning to attend the press conference for Patrick Peterson, who will be announcing that he's entering the NFL Draft.  After that, sources tell the Detroit News that Miles will interview with Michigan on Tuesday.

Which means one of two things.  Either Les Miles will be the new head coach at the University of Michigan before the week is over, or Les Miles will have a nice little pay raise from LSU by the end of the week.  We know that Michigan has already said it won't spare any expense in finding a new coach, and Miles already makes $3.75 million annually at LSU.  We've also heard that LSU will try and keep Miles in Baton Rouge.

So no matter where he ends up, Les Miles' wallet is going to win.

Another reason why Les Miles will be the new U of M coach, it is because he took over a team that was already at the top! He didn't build it Nick Saban did. That is why he is coming to Michigan because he can build it his way and become a legend right along side Hayes, Schembechler, Rockne, Bryant, Paterno and Bowden!

MI Nightmare,

Wow, that was very well said and quite right.  It shocks me how quickly these Johnny-come-lately nimrods forget that UM was 11-1 (with a close road loss to the #1 team), and some Urban Meyer whining away from playing a rematch in the BCS Championship game a few years ago.  This misperception really underscores the total anihilation of our reputation by Rich Rodriguez in just three short years.  Who would have thought it was possible??  I can only hope greatness is restored sooner than later, because I can't take much more of my program being dragged through the mud.  I graduated in 1997, when we won the National Championship in both football and hockey, and I had season tickets to both and paid way more than I could afford at the time to go to the Rose Bowl.  That is the UM athletic program that will always be in my heart.  I continue to have faith that we can once again reach that level of prestige.  GO BLUE!!

Michigan had three very unimpressive years with Rich Rod. Very true. But was football just invented 3 years ago? And since many of you must be too young or too impaired to remember anything pre-2000, here are a few things that you may or may not recall:

2000 Orange Bowl - Michigan defeated Alabama

2001 Citrus Bowl - Michigan defeated Auburn

2004 Outback Bowl - Michigan defeated Florida

2008 Capital One Bowl - Michigan defeated Florida

Michigan finished in the top 25, 7 times during this past decade and 4 times in the top 10. Michigan was also ranked as high as #2. I know many of you weren't alive then but Michigan has a NC as recent as 1997. It wasn't until the 2008 season did we start to struggle. RR brought Michigan it's worst record ever, it's worst bowl loss ever, the school's only probation and killed an NCAA bowl streak of 33 years and 40 years of consecutive winning seasons. No other school can claim this and I'm dating back from 2008. THREE years of bad football, fellas; they just happen to be the last 3 years and under RR. Even so Michigan was still a top 15 team throughout the 2000's. Michigan also holds the current NCAA streak of not being shutout. Every other football team in Division 1-A has been shutout at least once in the last 37 years. I could type an entire page of Michigan records. 3 years of junk football doesn't erase 127 years of great football.

#'s 1, 3, 7 and 9 are barely relative anymore. In the right hands "Big Blue" can be good, Notre Dame's inferior performance over the past several years will not land them that big fat TV contract so they'll either join the Big 10 or the Big East where they know they have a chance of winning again. Penn State will not be prominent again for a long time, Joe Pa god love him is slowing the recruiting down. Tennessee has had too much turmoil and there are too many other good SEC teams.

Nobody cares about 1200 games... most are concerned about the last 100 games or less. I doubt you'll find Michigan in there. I would love to see Michigan return to prominance. They were once among the elite, but the decline has become staggering. In my wildest dreams I couldn't have imagined Michigan State being the class of Michigan.

Oh no!!! I thought we would have a chance for Bo Pelini...hahahaha.  Bo Pelini, like he was ever considered for a second at Michigan.  The guy is a choke artist.  We want winners at Michigan.  Rich Rod, not so much.

Les Miles....a winner that knows how to win the big games.  Unlike Bo "the chokester" Pelini

Sky,

Spoo[n]ful equals "typo"

Out-ways equals "extra chromosome"

Not the same thing.

And I apologize if it is childlike to point out the inane and uneducated ramblings of a bandwagon fan and blog troll.   I'm deeply sorry.

Just a quick point, the auto companies received loans, not bailouts.  GM and Chrysler are paying back the money they received from the government with interest.
