Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

Those sure are some interesting looking planes in Baton Rouge this week.  If you're into the fun trend that is tracking flights across this country, then you'd already know that the plane belonging to Michigan booster Richard Rogel has been in Baton Rouge for a few days now.  It's also been rumored that Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon took a plane of his own to Dallas over the weekend to meet with Les Miles during the coaches convention.  Whether or not Miles has already had contact with Michigan, we don't know.  What we do know is that it looks like the interview process is about to be made official, as the Detroit News reports that Miles will officially interview with Michigan this week.

Miles is back in Baton Rouge this morning to attend the press conference for Patrick Peterson, who will be announcing that he's entering the NFL Draft.  After that, sources tell the Detroit News that Miles will interview with Michigan on Tuesday.

Which means one of two things.  Either Les Miles will be the new head coach at the University of Michigan before the week is over, or Les Miles will have a nice little pay raise from LSU by the end of the week.  We know that Michigan has already said it won't spare any expense in finding a new coach, and Miles already makes $3.75 million annually at LSU.  We've also heard that LSU will try and keep Miles in Baton Rouge.

So no matter where he ends up, Les Miles' wallet is going to win.

Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

I've got copies of my emails, facebook statements,LSU fans and kin folks that won't speak to me, because I have been saying that this was LES Miles last season at LSU since before the North Carolina game.

Somethings are obvious, others are fate, some just work out. Leave on a high note, and go where your heart is, and that sends Les to Michigan.

I believe LSU is 13 or 14 as far as all time wins in college football go.  If you look at the last decade, it is not even close between the schools.  How many 17 or 18 year old kids go beyond that.  You think these kids care if UM was good when dad was in college?  I am not saying UM is done by any means, but to the recruits, LSU is probably the better choice with much better weather.  With a good coach, UM will always be a power, and the same is true with LSU.  If loyalty wins out for Miles, so be it.  Funny thing is, fans from all schools cracked on Miles all year, but now, the UM fans seem to be in love with him all of the sudden.  Desperate times call for desperate measures, and UM surely fits that bill.  We will see if this "Michigan man" wants to go back to Michigan.

@ Mr. Mo Chi you are correct about those bailouts but Ford did participate in the Cash For Clunkers Program as did the Japanese Car Companies. The Japanese cars that are built here have 90% American made parts in them, while (so called) American cars have less than 10% American made parts in them. GM, Ford and Chrysler have many plants in China and Brazil and are in the process of building more of them because of the Unions wouldn't let them build those type plants here. The Unions destroyed this country and if any of know your History, unions are a communist idea, just read the Communist Manifesto and Das Kapitale!

Some of these comments are so prepostorous I had to respond. How can anyone actually believe that to a college ready kid the Michigan program is superior to LSU? The last time I checked most 16-17 year old kids are more concerned about what can you do for me now, not what did you do in 1985. These kids werent born until 1993-94. This generation of high schoolers (last 4 years) have seen Michigan be horrible and LSU be a very good program in the nations best conference with a National Championship to boot. If they were recruiting 40 year old men then I could see the argument but not high school kids. As far as Les Miles goes I am sure he does see Michigan as a superior job but don't be fooled into thinking the recruits will buy that nonsense. Personally I want Michigan to be relevant again because tOSU needs someone to challenge them every year not just every once in a while. If Les Miles is the guy that gets you there then good luck.

Got to admit that plane in the upper right hand corner sure looks good down in the south. All these media reports are beyond ridiculous. He's staying, he's going, he's not sure, he might be sure. The media in this country is just sick. A bunch of canniving gossiping drama queens. At this point I'll be happy if Michigan signs someone by the end of the week. michigan has to try and salvage what they can from this years recruiting.

MICHIGAN IS STILL THE WINNINGEST PROGRAM AND IF ANY ONE OF YOU LSU FANS ACCTULLY BELIVE THAT THAT U OF M IS NOT A TOP FIVE PROGRAM IN THE HANDS OF THE RIGHT COACH THEN I WANT SOME OF THE PUNCH YOUR DRINKING! BTW mMichigan is the only big ten school with a winning record against SECC teams, and we woul love to put a spanking on you just like we did florida once we get the program together.   PS LSU dosent even make the top ten all time Cry

melampus1, I sure hope you're right. Because valuable recruiting time is being wasted on a team with no coach.

It seems like some people are getting sidetracked from the article, and this turned into a turf war. Let's settle this. 1) If you buy a "foreign car," you're still keeping Americans in work. Many of the foreign company automobiles on the road are assembled here, by Americans. I know, at least, that the Japanese companies have plants here. 2) While a lot of the points about the autoworkers for the "Big 3" have some merit, why is the line drawn for bailout money made at the autoworkers? Numerous banks granted so many bad loans, and were given hundreds of billions of dollars in relief, without hesitation, and the exec's still got their bonuses. Airlines have had horrible business practices for years. They've been bailed out on a few occasions, without hesitation. So, when the auto makers looked for a bailout, why were they heavily and publicly scrutinized for their bad business practices, as they looked for a very small fraction of what the banks were given? And if I recall, Ford turned down the bailout money. Business has just been run poorly for the last decade, everywhere.

Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

I too am a Michigan fan.  Im 50-50 on if he goes there.  Alot of people want him, he's done well at LSU.  But remember, he took over a program left to him by Nick Saban.  the program was in great shape.  Michigan is a ways away from where LSU was when Miles took over there.  I do think he will do a good job at Michigan.  But as to the argument LSU isnt a top prgram?  thats wrong.  THe fact LSU matters in the SEC, of all places, says something.  Even when they werent winning much (90's), the fans still came out and sold out the 90K plus stadium.    Bama, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, LSU are the top SEC spots.  Maybe I missed a team.  But LSU is a top program.  Louisiana is a prime recruiting ground.  Again, if Miles turns Michigan around, he'd be king.  So he's in great shape either way
