Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

Those sure are some interesting looking planes in Baton Rouge this week.  If you're into the fun trend that is tracking flights across this country, then you'd already know that the plane belonging to Michigan booster Richard Rogel has been in Baton Rouge for a few days now.  It's also been rumored that Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon took a plane of his own to Dallas over the weekend to meet with Les Miles during the coaches convention.  Whether or not Miles has already had contact with Michigan, we don't know.  What we do know is that it looks like the interview process is about to be made official, as the Detroit News reports that Miles will officially interview with Michigan this week.

Miles is back in Baton Rouge this morning to attend the press conference for Patrick Peterson, who will be announcing that he's entering the NFL Draft.  After that, sources tell the Detroit News that Miles will interview with Michigan on Tuesday.

Which means one of two things.  Either Les Miles will be the new head coach at the University of Michigan before the week is over, or Les Miles will have a nice little pay raise from LSU by the end of the week.  We know that Michigan has already said it won't spare any expense in finding a new coach, and Miles already makes $3.75 million annually at LSU.  We've also heard that LSU will try and keep Miles in Baton Rouge.

So no matter where he ends up, Les Miles' wallet is going to win.

I agree with .  LSU isn't in the same sphere as the Michigans and Alabamas and Oklahomas and Nebraskas of the world.  LSU fans need a bit of perspective.  They've been great - no, awesome -  the last 8 or so seasons.  Before that, you've got to go back 30 years when they were consistently relavant.

That is about as impressive if you were in Colorado at the end of the 1996 season - you co-won a national championship, and had been dominant for 6-7 years.  They were at top of the charts, nothing could go wrong, even with their fare weather fans.  Well, now what do you think of them?  Anybody clamoring to be their coach?

For you youngins, what do you think of USC now?  They were the team of the 00's, but they absolutely stunk up the 80's & 90's (which nobody seems to remember), and they are back in the tank now, and only going to get worse.
Relatively short term dominance at a place where it always seems to be a coaching carousel and the rabid fans aren't patient with you even when you win doesn't sound like a real place you love to stay at.  These 'big' schools that are 'destination' places for coaches need to actually be destination places, where the coach sticks around for a long time.  Michigan fits that definition much more than LSU.

Les Miles to interview with Michigan this week

Why would Les Miles want to coach at University of Michigan?  Its as simple as this:  If he wins four more championships at LSU he will walk on water at LSU.  If he wins those same championships at U of M, he will walk on water everywhere.  He will have what every coach wants (I think) the immortality of Bo, Woody, Bear.  Think about it as a boost in ego points, every coach wants those!

Oh stop shouting. Sheesh.

"Is a skunkbear an animal native to East Lansing?"

You don't know, do you. Don't look now, but you are wearing your ignorance in full public view.

How do you know if you are being paid enough at your current job if you don't get an offer once in a while from somewhere else? Just because you get the offer does not mean you will automatically take the job.

Les Miles would be a fool not to listen to Michigan's offer. Everyone should go out and interview once in a while just to get a sense of what their market worth is. That does not mean he will automatically take the job. He is established at LSU and has a good program going for him.

Why would he throw that all away and step eagerly into the quagmire that is Michigan football? A few bucks might seem important to some of you who do not make $3.5M a year (most, if not all of us!), but once you reach that point, any further increase is only a reflection of prestige.

Consider. If you had $6M after taxes, you could spend $100K a year for 60 years (no investment or even interest). If you had no mortgage to pay off, you would be doing quite well. You would not be able to buy a mansion or a yacht or a private jet, but you would be able to do just about whatever you wanted and go just about wherever you wished just about as ofter as you pleased.

3 years at $3.5M per year and you are set for life.

It's a step in the right direction. LSU fans are only pissed because their boosters roll up in 1979 Oldsmoblie Cutlass Supremes.

MI Nightmare = Idiot!!

Good luck finding ANY American car more than 10 years old that still runs/rolls!

How is it you "Michigan-ders" mana
ged to bankrupt the auto industry and then have the nerve to take OUR tax dollars to bail yourselves out after producing the s h i t t i e s t cars for decades??!!!! Your automakers turds were waaayy overpaid for far too long and when it all came tumbling down you asked for a bail-out! Some freakin' nerve!

Oh, btw.... The owner of that plane lives in Colorado!!!  Pretty sad when Michigan boosters can't stand to live in the same state their alma mater is in!! What a s-h-i-t-h-o-l-e!

I dont' know why the insults have to come from the UM side when it is their program that sucks right now, and has for a while.  If Miles goes to UM, it will be like pity sex, in that he feels sorry for how his former program has taken such a bad turn.  Of course, they will have to pay through the nose to get him.  If Miles goes, then I will always be appreciative of what he did for LSU, but I could never pull for him again.  As our program is near the top now, I do not think we will have a hard time finding a capable replacement.  I would rather have Miles stay at LSU and not have to go through that, but our last two coaching hires have both won NC's, so we are in good shape.  The talent and fanbase are both ready for next season, no matter who the coach is.

The only thing valid about the quote is that it is pure Skunkbear arrogance...

Because Michigan is the premiere college team in the nation of all time, the prestige of coaching at Michigan out-ways coachin

g at a hick school, do the math, Michigan is #1 in all time wins and #1 in all time winning percentage.

It the poser's statement were true, then (a) Why did Michigan accept Rodriguez (left WVU because he lost to Pitt), (b) 6 or more coaches turned down the job, including Harbaugh, and most importantly, given EVERYONE IN THE WORLD knows the position is open (c) why there is not a line running from Detroit to Ann Arbor that includes every coach in the world waiting his/her turn to interview for the job?

The only thing valid about the quote is that it is pure Skunkbear arrogance...

Les Miles will coach where Les Miles wishes to coach and for reasons that are significan to Les Miles.
