Reports: Todd Graham 'a done deal' with Pitt

According to Fox 23 out of Tulsa, the next Pittsburgh football coach will be Todd Graham of Tulsa. Fox 23 reports that while Graham's hiring has yet to be announced, it is a "done deal" and he will depart for Pittsburgh later this evening.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms this report, reporting that Graham and Pitt have come to terms on a deal and will be announcing the hiring tomorrow. It's likely that the announcement may come later today, considering the pressure such reports put on athletic officials who are being asked constantly for confirmation, but Pitt's current plan is to take care of the formalities on Tuesday.

At any rate, this report likely dismays Panther fans who had been holding out hope for Tom Bradley , the longtime Penn State assistant who was the early favorite for the job. Bradley did interview with Pitt, but obviously those talks stalled at some point. It's also entirely possible that Pitt AD Steve Pederson just plain liked Graham better as a candidate (rather than, say, getting hung up on money with Bradley), but those specifics will have to come from Pederson.

Bradley is also interviewing with Connecticut this week, as the Huskies look to replace Randy Edsall after his move to Maryland a week ago.

That could be a fair, normal hype submitting.Rather used to one single who's going to be quite frankly seeking out the main resouces within this an aspect. This will no doubt program show my routine.

So true!

Tulsa can't put the money up that the bigger schools will, because Tulsa lacks the community support -- and always has.

The fact that Tulsa downsized their stadium to 30,000 seat capacity doesn't matter... it seldom sells out any way, unless it's to host Oklahoma or Oklahoma State.

Tulsa's the smallest Div I school in the NCAA (just under 3,000 undergraduate students) and a very tough school academically.  Tulsa is also a rather expensive school to attend.  Tulsa is generally accepted as the "little brother" to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, seldom given much respect or credibility, even though they may have incredible talent from year to year.  All-too-often Tulsa cannot afford to keep a consistent program going because it all boils down to money.  Always has, always will.

I hate to see Graham go.  At least Tulsa's getting back most of their starters.

I agree. What is this guy going to know about recruiting Western and Eastern Pa. athletes. Not much.  We lost three players today to the Pros(which might have happened anyway),maybe not.

That's it for this Alumnus.  I'm done with PITT football.  Those two dopes (The Chancellor and Pederson) have done it again. I am just amazed at the thought process by these two. I understand hiring Graham under different circumstances.  However, the PITT family has been made a mockery of and our name tarnished after the recent events.  The hiring of Tom Bradley may not have been "sexy", but that is the last thing we need at the moment.  A young, self indulged coach.  We needed Bradley's stability, renowned respect, and all around good qualities to help restore PITT's image.  He would have provided stability, while recruiting the players necessary to restore respectability to the program.  Great, a spread offense in Pittsburgh.  Some idiot radio personality on 93.7 asked a caller why would "Mother Nature" be a problem to Todd Graham's offense? Geez, I don't know.  Throwing the ball around during our late fall, early winter weather will be a piece of cake! Nah.....Bradley was not the answer.  Another "Up and Coming" coach is.  Way to take another risk, when we needed stability.  Then to all you fans who don't mind being a "stepping stone" program - go root for Akron, Temple, and the likes.....cause why should a young kid commit to PITT when the Coach won't.  Thank god for Jamie Dixon and the basketball program.  Steve Pederson needs fired before I start to care about/follow PITT football again.  I'm out! Let's Go UConn Football!

Tulsa was 9-3 regular season.  The 9 wins were against teams with a combined record of 40 and 55.  The 3 wins were against teams with a combined record of 23 and 14.(Okla. St was 10-2).  I can't say whether he is that great of a coach or not.  I just think it will be harder for him to recruit.

Some of us are excited and, personnally, couldn't care less if he uses Pitt as a steppingstone. If he puts himself in that situation it's a win - win. If at that point Pitt takes care of  him to keep him from jumping then maybe at long last Pitt will have  FB coach to compliment Coach Dixon on the BB side.

Graham's first challenge will be to try and salvage this year's recruiting class.  Need to get Gary Nova committed back after he just chose Rutgers.  Perhaps a high powered offense can get him to change his mind back to Pitt.

Another coach leaves Tulsa!! This is why Tulsa will never be an elite team because they can't keep a coach. Everytime they have a great season they lose a coach.
