According to Fox 23 out of Tulsa, the next Pittsburgh football coach will be Todd Graham of Tulsa. Fox 23 reports that while Graham's hiring has yet to be announced, it is a "done deal" and he will depart for Pittsburgh later this evening.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms this report, reporting that Graham and Pitt have come to terms on a deal and will be announcing the hiring tomorrow. It's likely that the announcement may come later today, considering the pressure such reports put on athletic officials who are being asked constantly for confirmation, but Pitt's current plan is to take care of the formalities on Tuesday.

At any rate, this report likely dismays Panther fans who had been holding out hope for Tom Bradley , the longtime Penn State assistant who was the early favorite for the job. Bradley did interview with Pitt, but obviously those talks stalled at some point. It's also entirely possible that Pitt AD Steve Pederson just plain liked Graham better as a candidate (rather than, say, getting hung up on money with Bradley), but those specifics will have to come from Pederson.

Bradley is also interviewing with Connecticut this week, as the Huskies look to replace Randy Edsall after his move to Maryland a week ago.

Reports: Todd Graham 'a done deal' with Pitt

Don't know if Pitt will be a stepping stone or not. However, in watching Tulsa play over the last couple years, I have been extremely impressed with Graham's coaching. He has done wonders with a high octane offense and his defenses play better than the scores sometimes indicate. This is a great hire and Pitt fans should be excited. It wil be fun to watch Pitt football. In fact, the best hire you have made this offseason, and I hope the last.

Why is it so bad to be a stepping stone? If he leaves then this team has probably been really good, unless someone gets him out of desperation.

If Graham uses Pitt as a steppingstone that will mean that Pitt will be in better shape then than it is now. My hope, like so many others was for Bradley to get the job. Players torn between Pitt and Penn State may have been inclined to come to Pitt with Bradley aboard. He also would have had a better chance of salvaging this years class. Finally, you know what you're getting with Tom Bradley; a top asst. that has been basically running the PSU team for the past many years. Respected throughout the east and Big Ten country.

That said, Graham is highly thought of by many, not the least of which is himself, so give him a chance and let it play out.

Lets Go Pitt

Mistake.  Build a program and in 5 years(if that) leave.  Tom Bradley would have been a permanent fixture at Pitt.  His recruiting alone should have been enough for him to have been hired.  Hope he gets the job at UConn.

That will last for a couple of least until the next program comes calling Graham.  He has no loyalty at all, and will soon be gone to the next highest bidder.
