Iowa's Tyler Sash entering NFL draft

When it comes to projecting the strength of Iowa's defense the last few seasons, a lot of people bring up the name of Adrian Clayborn and other members of the Hawkeyes defensive line.  The reasons for this are obvious, as Clayborn was a one man wrecking crew in 2009, but safety Tyler Sash has always had a knack for making huge plays for the Iowa defense when they're most needed.  And now it seems that the Hawkeyes are going to have to find somebody to replace Sash as well.

According to Matt Bowen, Sash is going to forego his final season at Iowa and enter the NFL Draft.

In his three seasons with the Hawkeyes, Sash has picked off 13 passes, and is also a force in stopping the run.  He's the type of player whom, although he's projected to be a mid-round pick, can make an immediate impact for a defense on the NFL level.  Whether as a starter in the secondary, or on special teams, the kid is just a football player.

Sash was an All-Big Ten selection in both 2009 and 2010.

Dmike,

You are an idiot.  Guilt by association?  Really...really?  A couple of kids (and I do say kids) make extremely poor choices and you are going to hold all the players accountable on this team?  You know nothing about college athletics.  THis does go on at nearly every school in some capacity.  Some of Iowa's best players were caught and they will pay their dues but don't hold Sash or any other player to the same level that others have decided to run their life.  People make their own choices...period.

What did he get in trouble for..???

I would be very skeptical of any player coming from IOWA anymore.  This group of players, as much as Ferentz is revered, is out of control.   The drug charges, and the broad scope of them, running a drug house, as opposed to someone caught smoking a bit, is a huge step.   I would do thorough background work on any player coming from the program until it is cleaned up.   And no, I am not Naive in thinking it aint happening somewhere else, because I am postive it is   But for all the busts that have happened, when in some cases, the University Police tuen there backs, it suggest that they knew, and enough was enough, and the house and the ones running it, had to be dealt with.

He, Sash, may be a great player, but I am going with guilty by association.    Fair or not.

Good luck Tyler.  Thanks for the 3 years of work, going pro at this time seems like the right move for you.

JVB and the Coke will help the O cover up our D graduations.

Thisis an understandable move, and the right one.  Iowa was a major disappointment last season, and takes a major hit graduation wise.  The chances for Iowa to make any major noise in the Big 10+2 look pretty bleak at this time.  With all the uncertainty in the NFL as far as rookie salaries are concerned for next season, now is the time to make the jump.

WOW!  Sash is going to be a hard guy to replace as he was a leader on and off the field.  Always seemed to be around the ball and making plays!  Best of luck Tyler and maybe the Jets will land you to become the heir-apparent to Jimmy Leanord!

Wow! Even before I saw your comment, I was thinking about the Leonard equiv. in Tyler Sash.   This kid may not have all the physical intangibles, but he just knows how to play the game.

sash is going to be 23 in may.  not too many iowa fans expected him back

BUT marvin mcnutt returning....THAT would have been a huge loss if that happened. he might be the top reciever returning next year.

2 out of 3 aint bad!  it was a wise decision on his part. epic sash we will miss you!
