Brady Hoke says Denard Robinson is staying put

One of the biggest question marks surrounding the hire of Brady Hoke at Michigan was how his stated preference for a smashmouth, pro-style offense would mesh with the handpicked spread-n'-shred personnel left over from the Rich Rodriguez regime--specifically, reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Denard Robinson.

The marriage appeared to be such a bad one (particularly once it became public knowledge that Hoke would be bringing West Coast offense proponent Al Borges with him from San Diego State to run the Wolverine attack) that many have expected Robinson to transfer. And for his part, Robinson has declined comment when publicly asked if he would return for his junior season in Ann Arbor. But Hoke was expected to meet with Robinson yesterday, and on local radio this afternoon, he said that Wolverine fans had nothing to worry about :

The story's not over just yet; until Robinson himself declares that he'll be in maize-and-blue this fall, there's still enough wiggle room for a change of heart.

But if Hoke is confident enough to point-blank say that Robinson is sticking around, clearly the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of Robinson staying. Breathe a little easier, Michigan fans.

Sorry, this was supposed to say "as many grad STUDENTS as undergrad" not "as many grad SCHOOLS as undergrad."

See? Some of us UM grads are stupid too.

The "too" implies that certain other posts were, well, you know what I'm saying.....

Wow lovinMSU, haven't heard many use that argument before - MSU academic superiority. The list of high ranking programs you give is interesting. That sort of thing is what here in London used to be called "Polytechnics" until the government turned them magically into "universities." But yes they still teach things like "supply chain mangement" - which I by no means depreciate because we all need the supplies there on time. It's just that, well, it isn't really academic.

I am not a MSU hater (most Wolverines are not) and my father, older brother and two younger brothers went there. In fact, I like MSU. I was delighted with their great season. Tom Izzo is one of my heroes. I remember Duffy Daugherty (no one else seems to remember him) and his magnificent teams. I watched the classic MSU - Notre Dame clash. Mateen Cleaves limping back on to the court to beat Florida is one of my classic memories.

Sure, Michigan has almost as many grad schools as undergrad. What does that have to do with sports, or whatever else?

Michigan is respected worldwide. I travel annually (not a boast, just my job) to Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Lebanon, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Malaysia, etc. and a Michigan degree is an entry card to the highest levels in all those places. Don't spit on UM acadmeics.

Come on, lovinMSU, one moment of honesty: you envy Michigan for its tradition, marketability and the really classy helmets. Hard to do a lot with green and white. That is just reality, not a slam.

Mark Dantonio is a class guy, and I hope you guys get over the Alabama blowout and win a national championship next year. With Denard and Devin UM should be exciting, but we have to wait a while for the classy Brady Hoke to get us back where we belong. Cheers, mate!

@MSU.. way to go with #1 turf management! But, hey what would you expect from a cow college. I want a guy to learn to run a business or study something necessary I send them to Michigan. I want to learn how to put rosebud salve on a cow's utters. Then hands down MSU!!

Glad to hear Denard is staying. I guess he has decided he would sacrifice the QB position to stay on this team...because he definitely will not be the QB next year. Devin Gardner is the QB. Denard may be in the backfield sometimes. Maybe spend some time at QB, just not alot.

All I know is that Michigan wants to get back to the old days with 2 tight ends, a bruising RB, and a drop back passer. A pro-style offense.

And I know that Denard Robinson will not be running that offense.

Those who stay will be champions though, Denard. Much love.

GO BLUE

Brady Hoke says Denard Robinson is staying put

Living in Indianapolis, I new some guys who played for Hoke at Ball State and they all said he was an excellent coach.  When he had BSU in the top ten his QB was Nate Davis, who was a poor mans Robinson.  They ran pro style, but ran a lot of spread option too.  He is a coach who will tailor his coaching style to maximize his players potential.  I truly believe he was the best hire for Michigan.

Bandit11 that ranking is only based on incoming students GPA and acceptance rates.  MSU has more #1, top 5, and top 10 programs than Michigan has hands down.

Michigan brags about its medical program.  Not even a top 10 med school.  MSU ranks #7.  College of education is #1 with elementary and secondary education programs in the undergrad and grad class.  College of Vet Med is top 10.  College of Vet tech is top 10.  Turfgrass management is #1 IN THE WORLD!  Retailing is #1 in the US.  Supply chain management is #1.  School of hospitality management is top 10.  Psychology has several #1 programs and several top 5 programs.

MSU has over 33,000 undergraduate students.

Michigan has around 15,000.  They have almost as many grad students as undergrad.  And funny enough Michigan counts U of m Flint and dearborn students in their attendance figures.  I know someone that goes to U of M Flint and has student season tickets for football because they are given the chance to purchase student admissions while not going to the piece of crap school.

Cant spell SCUM or DUMB without UM.

GO STATE!!!

He should leave unless he thinks the change is best for his pro career.

Forget Brady hoke for a minute!  Denard Robinson would be a fool for not sticking around to play for Al Borges.  Borges will probably go with a modified pro set and Robinson will greatly improve his draftability.  Through his coaching history, Portland State, Boise State, Oregon, UCLA, Cal, Indiana, Auburn and San Diego State, his offenses soared.  Even when the team he was coaching or would lose games, you would have been hard pressed to say it was due to the offense.

Borges list of quarterbacks include: Tony Graziani of Oregon then the Falcons; Cade McNown of UCLA then the Bears; Corey Paus of UCLA (injury year after Borges left UCLA prevented a pro career); Kyle Boller from Cal on to the Ravens, Rams and Raiders; Gibran Hamddan of Indiana and later Redskins, 49ers, Seahawks and Bills; Jason Campbell of Auburn then on to the Redskins and Raiders; Brandon Cox of Auburn; and Ryan Lindley still at San Diego State.  His quarterbacks did really good in college and most went on to the NFL.

Borges is a great game day coach!  He can see tendencies in opposing defenses and make quick adjustments.  He will put his tight ends into the offensive scheme.  His big weakness though, is his not applying sufficient attention to his offensive lines.  Still, his quarterbacks look good in his system of play.  Also note, he will probably come up with some cutesy name for his offensive formation, but it is basically a pro set giving him some options on running or passing and even running an occaisional shot gun or option.

Better use rich rods offense for the next 2 years because denard does not have the smarts or the arm to run anything else! They will struggle on offense in 2011
they have Devon Gardner who is a much more pro style QB than Denard you will see a lot of optiont and Denard is very dangerous he will only get better at throwing and he will be a huge threat come next year. Teams wont know what to expect if you bring him in
