In order to compete in the world of college football, you need to bring the best football players to your school.  More and more these days, that means schools have to spend money to bring those players to their campus.  One of the more popular ways to do this is to show these kids how serious the school is about its football program by spending millions of dollars on athletic facilities.

Which is what Arkansas plans to do.  The school announced last year that it was planning on building a new football operations center, and that the project would cost $35 million.  The school hasn't begun construction on the project, nor has it raised the money it needs, but it has taken the crucial first step towards making the dream a reality.  That step being putting together some pretty pictures of what the operations center would look like.

Oh my god, it's haunted! Even the drawings have ghosts in them.

The facilities would include new coaches offices, locker rooms, meeting rooms, training rooms, equipment rooms, lounges, a study area and football museum. Arkansas has raised $12 of the estimated $35 million its expected to cost, and hopes to begin work on it in 2011.  The entire project is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Bama Fan, apparently you've never been to Fayetteville.  If you had you would see that their facilities are much better than the ones in Tuscaloosa, with the exception of your football field.  They have the best Track & Field facilities in the country, their new baseball field is top 3, their Basketball arena makes yours look second rate and the football stadium, although not the largest, is state of the art.  When built it had the largest jumbo-tron in the world.

And btw, the Walton family (richest family in the world) could buy and sell both Phil Knight & T. Boone Pickens.  They just donated another $300 million to help fund an honors college, already help build and fund the Walton College for Business and Sam's brother Bud wrote a $15 million dollar check (1/2 cost) to build the Bud Walton Basketball arena.
Sam Walton's net worth was over $100 Billion way back in the mid-80's... so I wouldn't worry about only raising $12 dollars to this point. I am a LSU fan and we have been watching, with interest, the upgrading of their facilities with interest!  That's all we need is another power in the SEC West!

I'm a Bama fan, but I can pitch in a couple of bucks if $12 is all they have been able to collect with up to this point.

Watch out Oregon and Oklahoma State!!!  In the end, I imagine one of the Waltons will solve this problem before long.

No hurry bamabraves.

Rest assured a Walton (AKA Walmart) or Tyson (AKA Tyson Chicken)  or a Jones (AKA Cowboy Owner) or other local / alumni will step up to finish the fund raising if not the funding.  There has always been big money in Razorback football and we just have to wait and see who wants their name on the facility.

Well, I donated 75 cents today, so they're up to $12.75 I think.

They've only raised $12?! Better get a move on. Maybe Mallett can give part of his signing bonus.
