Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins made headlines earlier this month his announcement to skip the NFL Draft and return to Gainesville for another season.  For new head coach Will Muschamp, it was a great display of leadership from one of the most talented upperclassmen on next year's roster.  Unfortunately that positive act was quickly offset with Jenkins' citation over the weekend for possession of marijuana.

The Gainesville Police Department informed the Associated Press that Jenkins was arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession early Saturday.  He was in the bathroom at a nightclub and caught with a "clear baggie" of marijuana.  The misdemeanor charge is for an amount of marijuana less than 20 grams, and his court date has been set for February 17.

Of course this is a notable arrest for Muschamp's campaign to win Florida their first Fulmer Cup, "awarded" to the program with the worst collective criminal record.  Urban Meyer often was criticized for the off-field issues under his watch in Gainesville, and this arrest does suggest that little has changed.

The timing was also not ideal for Jenkins' arrest.  Being the midst of changing coaching staffs, and just two weeks after his big return announcement, it will not be easy to quietly sweep this story under the rug.  Jenkins would like to keep his name in the headlines for next year's NFL Draft, but he would prefer the story to be on the football field.

Florida Way?

"There's a certain thing that I'm going to refer to as the Florida way, and that's the way they need to act and that's the way they need to represent our University," Muschamp said during his introductory news conference last month.

So we get to find out if two time losers get to keep their scholarships with the "Florida way"!  lol

Less than 20 grams? For all you non-scholars that means he could have had nearly an ounce in that bag. Just bring a fat doob with you next time dummy.

Janoris Jenkins arrested for marijuana possession

This is just the beginning of the arrest season for NCAA players.  Expect to see a lot of this.  It is getting to the point where simple misdomenor arrests are just ignored by the teams and the schools.  You have to be arrested for a felony to receive any punishment in today's world.  This is really a non-issue, but it is the slow season in college football now.  I would be shocked if we do not see one or two stroies involving player arrests every week.

Janoris Jenkins arrested for marijuana possession

Ok, here's my take on this:
1) I don't smoke weed, not my thing cause I don't care for it. I still think they should legalize it even though I don't do it. It would help our economy and our wasted legal system along w/ over crowed jails. But that's another discussion all together.
2) I honestly don't care who does but please, be respectful to about your surroundings.
3 Jenkins is a flipping idiot for doing this. He's been arrested once already (for a separate charge) and doing this in a very public place is just plain stupid and ignorant.
4) Jenkins already knows he's a top 10 pick when he goes pro (not anymore!), so why would he keep tarnishing his character for some smoke? Beyond me.
5) I coach kids too. IMHO (like it matters), Jenkins should be booted from the team for drug use. It's his 2nd arrest since he's been at UF. This ones a bit more serious than the other one. Even though it's only weed, it is an illegal narcotic. If Muschamp wants to take control of this program and clean up it's "image", this would be a step in the right direction. This will send a resounding message to the players, the school, the fans and to recruits and their parents. In a positive way. Not every would be happy but I would think most would understand. I also think most would applaud a bold statement making move like that. With c child going into college (for me), knowing that there's a great coach and a disciplined program, makes a big difference for helping my son choose his school. All parents should. The coach let's this one slide on his first opportunity, I steer my son away. How much more will he let his players get away with in the long run?
6) Jenkins will get drafted, just in the 2-4 rounds. His character alone may drop him even lower. If he gets booted from the UF football team, he might be lucky to get drafted at all. We all know that the NFL is huge on "character" and your lacking it or they question it, you just hurt yourself in so many ways.
7) Off my soap box. Thanks for reading.

EXCELLENT!!!!  Yet another example of all the hood-rats that play for Florida!  The SEC is full of players just like this and worse.  How about you guys have some sort of test before you sign these losers.  Maybe ask them to read a book, ask them if its ok to steal anything, ohh and yah is it cool to do drugs!  Again another example of SEC dominance.
