MWC moves TCU/Boise game to Boise

Feel free to leave the Mountain West, TCU, but don't expect any fond farewells or parting gifts. After rumors surfaced last week that the Mountain West was looking to move the first and last conference game between Boise State and TCU next season from Fort Worth to Boise, the conference made it official on Tuesday evening.

Here is the statement from the Mountain West about the scheduling change.
After carefully considering all sides of the issue, the MWC Board of Directors decided to implement the change in the 2011 football schedule as had been recommended by the athletics directors. TCU will now play at Boise State, while Boise State's contest with San Diego State will be played in San Diego. The Board felt the change was in the best interest of the Mountain West Conference and would help address current and future scheduling concerns created by the new set of circumstances which stemmed from another change in membership.
The first sentence was edited quite a bit. It originally said "after carefully considering all sides of the issue, and then deciding we don't care about TCU's side since they're leaving." Or at least, that's how I read it. I know it's just a single game, but it's a pretty big game. Odds are that if any team from the Mountain West is going to be in a BCS bowl next season, it'll be either Boise State or TCU. There's a very real possibility that the game will serve as a MWC Championship of sorts, and to have it moved north to Boise has a huge impact on how things could turn out.

MWC moves TCU/Boise game to Boise

loyalty to a conference??? tcu was shunned during the creation of the big 12, and they have no reason to trust conference leadership for good reason.

that said, the mountain west could have really turned into an awesome conference, so thank the bcs for screwing that up.

this may have been a decision made prematurely. they're going to feel pretty stupid if boise has a loss heading into that game against an undefeated tcu. they might consider moving it back to tcu at that point. it's a calculated risk, and i get it.

tcu coaches and players can't worry about it. making that a road game increases the difficulty, and it is what it is. perhaps it makes the game more meaningful.

MWC moves TCU/Boise game to Boise

I don't think TCU fans expected anything else.  I'm a TCU fan and I say its a good move for the MWC.  They have to protect their brand, and even with TCU joining the Big Least next year, I'm still going to root for the MWC to be successful.  I hate that TCU had to join one of the crappiest conferences in college football, but financially it was a stellar move and anybody who says othewise doesn't know squat about college football.  This year the Non-AQ conferences (all 5 of them) split 24 million bucks from the bowls - a number HEAVILY increased by TCU's BCS bid.  Remember - Boise wasn't going to get a BCS bid after they lost to Nevada.   The Big Least got $21 by itself.  Yeah - stupid move TCU.  But I guess that TCU should have just stayed in the MWC and hoped that the BCS would eventually open its purse strings, right?  Talk about pipe dreams.

As far as TCU being a team of the past - you wish.

And on a side note, shouldn't MWC fans want to see teams like Utah and TCU kick tail in their new BCS conferences?  If they don't, that hurts the MWC brand even more than TCU leaving.

MWC moves TCU/Boise game to Boise

What did TCU fans expect?  Their team changes conferences more than a working girl changes street corners.  TCU has never shown any loyalty to any conference.  Why should the MWC give them any breaks.  This was the right move by the MWC.  Boise State is their team of the future.  TCU is a team of the past.  TCU got exactly what it so richly deserved.

MWC moves TCU/Boise game to Boise

How soon we all forget.  Folks should not be acting like this is the first time anything like this has happened.  Nebraska was treated pretty harshly last season by the Big 12, and just like now, the conference cannot really be blamed for that.  Each conference has to look after its own interests, and the MWC is no different from the Big 12 in that respect.  It is not like TCU deserved the home game any more than Boise did as this is the first and last conference game between the two.  I do not expect to hear any crying on the part of TCU in this matter.  I suspect they know it is them against the MWC this season, and they will just use this as motivation.  Regardless of where these two teams play, I expect it to be a very good game.

So what if the MWC gives TCU the short end of the stick. It's Karma. I dont want a team possibly getting a BCS berth and then bailing the conference the day after the bowl. Thats probably what the MWC board thinks. TCU wants a berth they can get one in 2012 while representing the 'big' East.

I cheered for them since they joined the MWC (exc against SDSU) but I cant stand them since they announced their departure.
Now Im just going to see lil purple teletubbies on the field.
I fn hate teletubbies

who cares about TCU...TCU screwed the MWC by leaving and making it harder to form a respectable 12 team league...what goes around comes around!

Way to stay classy MWC!!! This is Mid Major league tactics from a conf trying to reach AQ status. Boise would have faired better going into hostile territory and winning this one, now they are relegated to this just being another home game. Oh well what can you expect...... It should still be a great game, now it has a little tainting behind it.

Bush league all the way

If a conference has ever done anything this bush league to a departing member before now, I'm not aware of it.

This is like something the organizers of a kiddie T-ball league would do to give the team of the league chairman's little boy a better chance to win the league title.

If I were Boise State, I'd be embarrassed.  If Boise wins the MWC football title this year, that title will be a tainted taco.

And no, I'm not a TCU fan.

As a BSU alum I am pumped to hear this confirmed.  Live in MN, but will be looking into tickets tomorrow.  Awesome.  Simply awesome.

Not fair to TCU, but college football is not fair period.Laughing
