BYU, TCU in talks to play at Cowboys Stadium

As we are all well aware of now, TCU is scrambling to put together a schedule for 2011 after having Texas Tech drop a game between the two, and it looks like TCU will be staying in Texas to replace that game. A number of reports today say that TCU is currently engaged in talks with former Mountain West counterpart BYU about playing a game in Cowboys Stadium.

When the game will be played is a bit up in the air, as BYU already has twelve games scheduled in 2011. Since one of BYU's games is being played in Hawaii, however, the Cougars are allowed to schedule a thirteenth game next season. As of now the two open dates on BYU's schedule are October 29 and November 26. Odds are that November 26 is out of the question since it's on Thanksgiving weekend and the Cowboys traditionally play a home game on Thanksgiving, so preparing for two games in a matter of days would be a bit much.

So unless BYU rearranges the rest of its schedule, or drops another game, odds are if this matchup happens it'll be on October 29.

The game is not yet set in stone, though indications are that it should be announced in the coming days. According to TCU AD Chris Del Conte, TCU plans on releasing its 2011 schedule soon.

For those wondering why have the game at Cowboys stadium, TCU has blown up their stadium.

Well, truthfully not blown "up" but half the stadium is gone and being rebuilt/remodeled. It was an implosion last month. One side and one endzone are gone for the 2011 season.

I can't give a true number of seats they have left for this season, but the old setup had a listed peak of 45,000. (But the record of 55,000 for a game was set in 2009) Half of that is not really big time football but it will have to do till 2012. That's for the remodel rollout timetable, not for the end of the world.

TCU needs to play somewhere else if a big crowd is expected. They just don't have the seats. And Cowboys stadium gives TCU a chance at a really big crowd.

BYU, TCU in talks to play at Cowboys Stadium

Texas football... I say that because I think that Texas and Utah both rebound next year and have good years. Utah has Norm Chow now and they got Harvy Lange who is a ridiculous running back. Texas is Texas man. I don't think they have ever had two bad years in a row. TCU is losing a lot of players and getting a lot of new talent. Their defense is always sound. I agree. Their offense could suffer tremendously without Dalton. I never said TCU had a bad team, so don't be offended by the comment. I was simply stating that BYU has an extremely difficult schedule next year. They play more hard teams than easy ones. TCU being one of them.

Real question is how can TT drop a game this late. And why?

A game against the team that closed out the 2010 season at #2 would seem to be a game teams would want to keep.

The reasoning behind this move is what I would like to hear.

This would be a great game, and I know a lot of fellow Frogs that would make that trip to Dallas.  BYU/TCU has been a great matchup in the MWC and I'd love to see it continue.

ncaaftbllfan: I'd love to know why you think that TCU will be the third best team that BYU plays next year.  I think its at least safe to say that TCU will be the most defensively sound of all those schools, and the last time I checked that TCU defense has won them a lot of games.

Big Daddy... You say this will be one of the better teams BYU plays next year like they have an easy schedule. Bro. Their schedule has 5 or 6 top 25 teams on it. TCU might be the third best team they play next year brother. Their schedule is very difficult next year. They play Oregon state, Ole Miss, Texas, TCU, Hawaii (in Hawaii), Utah and they play UCF (ranked in top 25 also) who ended the season this year with three close losses and beating Georgia in a bowl game!!! All those teams were in the top 25 in 2010 and Ole Miss, Oregon State, Utah, TCU, and Texas will all start next year in the top 25 as well which is 5 top 25 on their schedule. The only easy teams they have are Utah State, Idaho State, Idaho and San Jose State. That means 8 out 13 games are legit.

This would be a good additional game for both teams.  TCU desperately needs to fill in its 2011 schedule.  BYU can add another uality team to it's 2011 schedule.  I agree that the game need not necessairily be played at Cowboy Stadium, but it that can be arranged, more power to the two teams and Jerry Jones.  I look forward to the game.  Looking at BYU's schedule, which includes New Mexico State and both Idaho schools, this will be one of the better games that they play.

BYU and TCU will have about 35 -45K fans a piece (I know TCU will at least have 40k), so you can expect around 70,000 people to be at that game. Not a sell-out or LSU or UT crowds, but good for two private schools with one school coming from the state of Utah.

I'm not sure why they need a stadium that big...it will probably only fill it halfway up.
