Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy is on his way to the NFL, but his journey there may have just gotten a bit more complicated. McElroy played for the South team in Saturday's Senior Bowl and did not leave the game unscathed, breaking a bone in his throwing hand. On the first play of the fourth quarter, McElroy completed a pass to South Alabama's Courtney Smith but hit his hand on a helmet during his follow through.

"I had no feeling the rest of the series," said McElroy. "The ball was kind of sporadic. I couldn't get a grip on the ball. I still can't get a grip on the ball. I think it will be OK."

According to McElroy's father, x-rays showed that a bone near his thumb was cracked. The injury will keep McElroy from being able to throw a ball for about two weeks, but the good news for him is that the NFL combine doesn't start until February 23. The bone should be good enough to allow McElroy to throw by then, but still, this isn't exactly the kind of thing you want happening when preparing yourself for the NFL draft.

He has been surrounded by world class talent all his life... if he goes to the NFL what do u think hell be surrounded by?  Bad talent.  No the NFL is where hell truly be surrounded by world class talent.  And what does he do, he wins.  thats it.  he just wins. AUBURN spotted him 24 points, he SURE  didnt win that one.  South Carolina kicked butt, he SURE didnt win that one, and what about LSU, he SURE didnt win that one either.......

Leave it to TARD to blame the defensive struggles of a team on a QB.

While I am not a Alabama fan, this guy oozes "winner" all over his persona. I would absolutely take this guy on my team if I'm a NFL GM (even with an aging Manning, Brady, etc). This guy will be good and although not the most athletic like a Cam Newton (who cares), McElRoy's job will be to lead and throws passes from the pocket. The NFL RB is used for running, not a QB.

Yet a lot of the succesful QB's can run. Vick, McNabb, Big ben, Rogers. Pocket passers are a dying breed in the world of football because this new breed of athlete has an arm just as strong and twice the elusivness opening up more big play potential. And that argument of pocket passers not getting hit as much is not valid. I don't know about anyone but getting sacked hurts if your standing still and you don't see the person coming at you.

And don't get me wrong I am in no way advocating pocket passers are beneath dual threat quaterbacks. I am just stating a quaterback who has a strong arm, can run pretty well, and accuracy has a much brighter future in todays league. Like if Cam Newtwon were to learn to throw more accurately like Vick did, pity to his opposition.

Listen guys no one was knocking Greg on his academics. He is a very smart humble guy and I am sure he is a good person. If I played QB at Alabama, finished two degree's, and all I had to do was toss the ball in the vicinity of Julio Jones or run the offense that does not distinguish me from anyone else even If I won.

Cam Newton is a winner but who cares about what games he won? Kids a athletic beast and that's what teams look at.  When I see Greg I see drop back QB without a exceptionally strong arm, can't run fast, hes intelligent but that doesn't make a QB.

I could definately see him signing as a free agent to a team but honestly why would anyone want to pay money and draft a QB with low upside just to be a backup?  There's plenty of talent in every draft and already in the league at QB if someone takes him, great for him but I was just asking who even has him on their draft board?

Wow.  You are soooo smart that I can't even begin to reply to you.  Aside from 3 career losses, and one of them to a quarterback who's daddy made more from his college then McElroy will ever make in the pros...

Eh, it's not the end of the world.  McElroy is too smart to not play in the NFL.  There are several teams that could use him as a starter and I think he would be a good back-up for anyone.
