College football sets attendance record in 2010

Turns out that this college football stuff is pretty popular. The NCAA issued a release today to let everyone know that more people attended college football games this season than any other season in the history of the world. During the season, 49,670,895 fans made their way through the turnstiles and to their seats to watch a game this season.

Which is good news for the sport, because after routinely setting attendance marks from 2006-08, the sport saw a dip in attendance in 2009. While some may say that it's because people were more willing to spend money on entertainment again following a bad year economically, personally I'm of the opinion that it has to do with the emergence of this blog. Just look at the facts.

In 2009 attendance drops, and there is no Eye on College Football blog on CBSSports.com. In 2010 the blog debuts, and all of a sudden attendance increases across the country. It's a pretty open and shut case if you ask me.

As for which schools held the top spots, it's the usual suspects. Michigan topped everybody -- generic Big House joke goes here -- with an average of 111,825 fans a game, and Big Blue was followed by Ohio State (105,278), Penn State (104,234), Alabama (101,821) and Texas (100,654). Now, while the top three spots were all claimed by Big Ten schools, the SEC claimed every spot from 6 through 10 with Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Auburn.

So it would seem that college football is popular in the Big Ten, SEC and the state of Texas. Who knew?

College football sets attendance record in 2010

OK, it's officially Super Bowl Week  in Texas, and before everyone gets all gaga about it, I thought it would be best for us to keep it all in perspective.
It was January 15, 1967, and the Green Bay Packers had  just won the first Super Bowl.  Immediately after the game, an interviewer asked coach Vince Lombardi how it felt to have the best football team in the world.
His answer, "I don't know.  We haven't played Alabama yet."
ROLL TIDE!

The SoCal nonsense is so old it is getting pathetic.  If you are truly a college football fan, it does not matter what else is going on, you are watching your team.  If your excuse is that there is so much else to do, then you are not really a true college football fan and you are just trying to make excuses for poor attendance.  SoCal also has millions of people, and if the team is not doing great, there will be empty seats there.  UM has been on a very bad run lately, but they still pack them in every Saturday.  Those are true college football fans.  The same cannot be said of the fans of USC.

Shocking, the largest stadiums have the most fans....

Still have to put the fannies in the seats

Yeah but depends on the College setting.. some college towns there is nothing to do and others you have plenty of options like WOW!?!?!

USC for example, which is in the heart of LA, we're talkin about SoCal people... more to do here than anywhere else on the planet! Whereas places like Clemson, Penn State, Boise State, Nebraska, Oregon, OSU etc etc.. what else are you gonna do!?!??!?!!?!

My point is not all campuses have the same number of options esp when your talkin' about the weekends. If I lived in the middle of nowhere (i.e. BFE) I too would go to a game, what else would I have to look forward to???

wait I thought the country had boycotted College football because of no playoff.
No, we just boycott the bowls. I like college football, but the season is such a waste of time because there's no playoff.
