Braxton Miller may start for Buckeyes this fall

When Ohio State signed quarterback Braxton Miller on Wednesday as part of its newest recruiting class, many thought that Miller, a talented dual-threat like Terrelle Pryor, was coming to Columbus as the successor to Pryor down the road. That road may be a lot shorter than was originally planned. While we know that Terrelle Pryor will miss Ohio State's spring game as he recovers from foot surgery, we don't know how long he'll be suspended for the start of next season.

All we do know is that the Buckeyes will need somebody to play quarterback for a few games while Pryor is out, and according to quarterbacks coach Nick Siciliano, that quarterback could be Miller.

"He's going to get a shot like everyone else will this spring," Siciliano told The Columbus Dispatch. "Because we don't have a guy cemented. He's got a special skill set that not everybody has."

Miller said he was in a similar situation when he entered high school, coming in his freshman season, putting in the work and being given the starting job. Of course, winning the job at high school isn't quite the same thing as winning the job at Ohio State. Especially when you consider that Pryor, nor any other freshman quarterback, has opened the season as the starting quarterback under Jim Tressel in Columbus.

Given that history, I'd say Joe Bauserman, Kenny Guiton or Taylor Graham have the edge in this battle. Though if Miller is impressive enough, who knows? Maybe Tressel will loosen the sweatervest a bit and give the kid a shot.

Interesting situation.  If Ohio State plays Miller, I don't think that hurts him at all.  It gets a good part of a year's experience under his belt.  At each new level, a QB usually takes a year to adjust.  For example, when Troy Smith started as a soph, he was so-so.  He was a star the next two years.  If they red-shirt Miller, he'll struggle his first year starting anyway.  And if Miller is good enough to win, this is a year OSU could fight for a national championship.  That does not happen anywhere every year.  Meanwhile, the OSU QB coach also said that no matter who starts, it is Pryor's job (just like Big Ben in Pittsburgh) when Pryor gets back.

As a Michigan fan who has seen this kid play I hope you play him and burn a year of his eligibility, but from a pure football standpoint even if those suspended players are out for five games Ohio State is too talented to lose to any of those teams; whatever QB you use will be sufficient. Shirt the kid and let him battle to be the QB next year

"Unless this kids comes in and just flat out lights it up there is no reason to get excited about him playing much at all this season. With Kenny, Taylor, Joe and of course Terrelle being available after his suspenstion why even bother burning a yr of eligibility.  Let him come in and learn the offense for a season, bulk up and look forward to the following yr"

Could not have said it better myself...Prior was a phenom...not sure this kid is ready for the Horseshoe just yet!

I pray jim does not start Bauserman. I thought maybe a little Taylor graham, miller mix would be interesting. I just dont know if J. T. would fiddle with the offense that much. We are still going to beat MIA like a rented mule any how. O-H-----
