As the college football world continues to drool over the highlights of Jadeveon Clowney, three schools continue to sit on the egde of their seat with a scholarship extended.  South Carolina, Clemson, and Alabama all await with a scholarship extended for the highly-touted defensive end to announce his collegiate plans on February 14, his birthday.  Everyone has speculated where Clowney will end up, but his high school coach told local media this weekend that he believes things are looking bleek for Alabama, and very good for the in-state Gamecocks.

South Pointe High School head coach Bobby Carroll told the Charleston Post and Courier on Saturday night that Alabama is not as strong with Clowney, citing distance as a determining factor.  He also believes that his recruitment is South Carolina's to lose at this point.

"That's what my gut feeling is," Carroll said regarding the Gamecocks' chances. "He's not saying a whole lot. I think he pretty much knows where he wants to go, though."

If Alabama is fading out of the picture, it is good news not only for the Gamecocks but also for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers.  Clemson made a huge splash on National Signing Day, pulling a couple of last minute prospects to finish off one of the best classes in the program's recent history.  If distance is a determining factor for the Rock Hill native, Clemson is still very much in the picture.

Dennis Dodd believes that Clowney belongs in the SEC, to follow in the footsteps of Glenn Dorsey, Terrence Cody, Nick Fairley, and the endless list of playmaking defensive lineman from the conference.  The Post and Courier also reports a source close to the situation who said that Clowney may know where he is going, but "wants it to be a shock."

Amongst all the speculation is the reminder that this is a decision being made (or so we believe) by a high school senior.  A radically unpredictable specimen, the high school senior is capable of changing ideals, beliefs, and decisions in real-time.  Regardless of any source or tips, the fact remains that we will need to see that LOI before any team is comfortable celebrating Clowney's arrival.

Report: Clowney closing in on Gamecocks, Tigers

Clemson has not been to a major bowl since the 1981 Orange Bowl but has still found a way to constantly lose in the Peach, Gator, Mieneke, etc. Bowls to teams like South Florida, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Texas Tech. It has been 20 years since Clemson won an ACC title. South Carolina has never won an SEC Championship and got schooled in this year's SEC Championship game. And then went on to get beat in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. USC has no bowl history and has one ACC Championship (1969) to its credit.

Neither team has a national audience or exposure. The ACC is a wasteland when you play Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, etc. Yes, South Carolina beat Alabama and it was an embarassing loss. USC followed it up by losing to Kentucky and was destroyed by Arkansas and then Auburn.

Alabama has 13 National Championships and 22 SEC Championships. It has been to a record 58 bowls and has won a record 33 of them. We are on TV every weekend and Bryant Denny is the 7th largest non-racing stadium in the world. 28 Bama players are currently in the NFL and there are 22 inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame. Bama has a 10-4 all-time record against USC and we never lose to Clemson.

I could go on....

Oh please do go on.....every time you get your ass kicked, especially by Auburn, we hear the same ole crap, it gets really old, doesnt hide the fact that you and ALABAMA still suck.  Your so-called heisman trophy winner, what a chump.  Two years combined hasnt totaled 100 yards against the MIGHTY AUBURN TIGERS.  What a joke, you and the University.  And the dude talking about Clemson or maybe the Gamecocks had the best D lineman, again, who are you trying to kid.  Auburn only gave up 1, thats right, 1 100 yard effort this year, the running back from LSU, and that was a fluke, most of his yards came on a broken play.  Pass on us all day long, but forget the run, just ain't gonna happen.  WAR DAMN EAGLE !!!!  up yours Tuscalooser Tiders.

Syracuse could use this kid!  Any chance of him coming north to the frozen, snowy tundra? Seriously, I can see him going to Clemson with 2 of the top 5 defensive recruits going there...just make it 3.  That would be a strong defense for years to come unless Steward plays running back, which would be a sight at 6'2" 235lbs and room to grow!

Dude, wake up, ACC football, you have to be kidding me... They are absolutely great at nothing !!!!!  join reality, you done gone and bumped your head

The ACC may not be half the ACC but help me remember this correctly. Didn't Clemson, a middle of the road team from the ACC, travel TO Auburn, and play them better for a full game than anyone else throughout the season? And no one say Bama did, cause they choked in the 2nd half. If Clowney wants a real education, he'll stay away from the SEC. The academic standards in the SEC are so much lower than the ACC. And Clemson has proven that when they play a big school, they don't go down with ease. We are known for producing great D-Lineman, and will have one hell of a defense if Clowney signs with us. It's pretty much down to Carolina and Clemson (as he has been saying for the past couple days), and if he wants to play with a team that has a strong defense coming in with him that will be with him throughout his career, he should sign with Clemson. SC signed 26 or 27u 3-starts and 5 4-stars. Also don't forget he loves the small home-town feeling, which is what you get at Clemson and more. Bama fans yall are just gonna keep hatin cause you aren't gettin Clowney. May I remind you that the Gamecocks beat you by 14 and embarassed you the entire game? Better luck next year livin up to expectations, Tide.

Jadeveon=
Alabama wants you!
If you want to play for a team and play for a national championship,  Bama's got to be your choice.
The ACC offers you  nothing,  and South Carolina isn't going to be contending for a championship.
Thing long and think hard before you make your decision.
Roll Tide!

Why do I have a feeling Clowney isn't reading CBS Sportsline message boards? Appealing to him here is akin to praying, and you don't get the warm fuzzy and tax deduction you do from church!
