What does it take to win a national championship? In order to keep preserve Cam Newton's eligibility, Auburn University was willing to shell out six figures.

The Birmingham News reported Wednesday that Auburn has spent approximately $170,000 in attorney fees during the ongoing Cam Newton NCAA investigation. Lightfoot, Franklin, White LLC, the school's Birmingham-based legal counsel has once again pulled in the big bucks defending a high profile NCAA investigation.

Michigan paid the same firm $600,000 during its recent infractions case, and Connecticut paid $338,000 over 12 months during the investigation of the Huskies basketball program.

As the report details, spending such a large amount of money for legal counsel is not unusual with such a high profile investigation. After all, Auburn was competing for a national championship - a reward that holds no price tag in the hearts of Tiger fans.

However, if you are measuring dollar amounts against each other, it should be noted that Auburn's need for legal assistance is likely far from complete. The NCAA has issued no ruling to completely close the Newton case at Auburn. Some would assume with Newton gone, the trouble would go away. But after a Heisman Trophy and National Championship, this story isn't fading away any time soon.

theone, you are typical Auburn idiot. You guy's would give your left arm to have the last 3 seasons Bama has had, which is something Bama has done quite often. Au has never had 3 seasons in a row like that.
Instead of blowing your little whistle, you should be a little humble and realize what it means to be on top.Unless you are 65, you have never felt anything like this in your lifetime as an Auburn fan. Understand what Alabama has accomplished all of these years and add up the NC's. Do you see where Au stands now? Do you understand how superior Alabama is compared to you guy's in everyones eyes?
If Bama has failed another year and I'm bitter, Then just how bitter are you knowing Auburn has failed every years of your life except this past year and it could possibly taken away as well.

ok theone, Manhandled? I would hope you guy's would be able to beat a program that was down  a few years in a row. Heck everyone else did to. What's funny is that you guy's could never do anything with those wins but take them to a tinymite bowl game. One of the years your finely tuned machine beat us they still watched mississippi state win the west and play for the sec championship.
Don't flatter yourself with beating us 6 years in a row, you guy's are still losing by6!!!

Bama took there medicine and overcame and concured again. Auburn cheated and will have to pay for it. Keep loving the sorry piece of crap that is gonna hurt you for a long time.

look artisatool, we all get it. it's easy to talk trash after winning an NC. Bama has won 4 in my lifetime (something you will NEVER be able to say). what's funny about your blogs is how you ignore peoples' opinions, good and bad, and try to trump them by stating that AU is the NC or that AU beat UA on their own field. what's even funnier is that the AU NC is a joke and that's why you spend so much time defending it.

gobama84 has a point. the entire country feels this way, not just bama fans. 2 or 3 bama fans throw their opinions out and all of a sudden it's a AU/UA thing. it's a CAM TOOK MONEY TO PLAY thing. AU spent over $180k to get Cam, why not spend $170k more to keep him on the field? even the author of the original blog took shots at AU and AU fans with the mention of "price tag." it's a joke to ALL.

stop trying to monopolize the threads with your bs rhetoric about how great AU is and how great the season was. the season and all that was accomplish is laughable.  BTW enjoy your Asterisk Championship.

GOBAMA84if you were referring to my fellow brethren you definitely never stated such...you replied to MY POST then referenced things other people said. there you go, back pedal. You knows whats funny? that u as a BAMA fan have so much to say regarding AU and Cam being a cheat. the funny part is that BAMA has been sanctioned 3 times in the last 16 years. HMMM...sounds to me like u r a holier than thou. AU has dominated BAMA over the better part of the last decade. if i was man handled the way BAMA has been by AU as of late, i guess i would develop an extreme amount of malice towards you as well. i cant be mad at you man...you have good reason, so please continue to be bitter and hate us with an unrivaled passion.

theone,
Read the post of your fellow brethren. I was referring to them and how it is an easy way out to put the talk and blame on Bama fans when they are a very small part of the talk.
As for you burying me, You can't!!!! The only leg you have to stand on is hope and show me the proof. Like I said the proof is there and it will be shown when it's allowed.
I personally hate Au and I always will. It makes it even worse for you guy's to finally do something that will actually give you a past to talk about even though it has hair all over it and it always will. This year Au finally becomes relevant and gets national recognition not once but twice this year. Unfortunately the negative recognition outweighs the positive! I only hope it's 53 more years when this happens again so I don't have to witness it.

What would have happened if Cam said to his Dad that he was going somewhere else other than Auburn? I mean Cam didn't know anything right??!! Pops would have said..."uhhh son umm you HAVE to go to Auburn b/c ummm well you just have to"!! Every Auburn fan that is passionate about CFB would be saying the same exact things as eveyone else if the same scenario happned anywhere else. They are so trying to spin this. This is one of the worst cases of recruiting fraud ever!!

Theone,  The NCAA has all they need to bury him and Au, They can't release it until the FBI investigation is over with which will be handing down criminal charges. Look at this board, It's not a Bama Auburn thing. It's the whole nation calling you guy's cheats. There are only 3 Bama posters that have made a comment on this thread, the rest are from fans of other universities.
Cam has made mistakes everywhere he has ever been. It's really easy to follow his trail. I would really like to see his class attendance records for all 3 schools he has attended.

war d amn eagle is SO D AMN DUMB!!!!!!!!!

should be WAR D AMN JAILBIRDS!!!!!!!

GOBAMA84 you must be blind or dumb and not able to read. nowhere in my post did i say anything about BAMA so not sure where you got that from. your statement alone leads me to believe that with you at least, it is an AU BAMA thing because you are directing towards me something which i did not even speak on. also, i would like to see your source from which you obtained "The NCAA has all they need to burry him". such a vague statement also leads me to believe u r just like the rest... making accusations of something you have no first hand knowledge of. dont get into a debate with me sir cause i will metaphorically "burry you."

Auburn spent $170k on legal fees for Newton case

what im sick of is everyone chiming in, declaring that he is guilty. no one posting on here has any idea of what exactly took place so the best thing for everyone to do is keep their mouth shut until the NCAA reaches a decision, then you can run it all you want. im an AU fan and am not sitting here saying he didnt do it cause i dont know for certain. im partial in the situation but i also know people are human and can make mistakes. so i'm going to sit back and wait for the case to be closed before i make all my comments...if he is guilty then i will accept it, but if he is not im going run it in...WAR DAMN EAGLE!
