Auburn plays nice with Tide on scheduling issue

Auburn and Alabama, as you may already be aware, don't always get along. Or, more accurately, under no circumstances get along.

But it turns out that when their conference parents at the SEC ask (or demand), they can occasionally play nice. That's the lesson to learn from the Tigers' just-announced late-season 2011 schedule adjustment :
For the first time since 1963, the Tigers won't play Georgia and Alabama in back-to-back games; Auburn slipped in Samford to split them up.

Also, the change means AU's open date will fall before Georgia and not before Alabama. The SEC sought changes because six league teams enjoyed open dates before playing the Crimson Tide last season. Auburn agreed to work with the league, switching where Samford fell on the schedule.
The alteration will no doubt stick in the craw of Auburn fans who will see the league (and potentially the Auburn administration) as having caved to the Crimson Tide's demands. Not only had Alabama filed the grievance regarding the bye-week problem, but Nick Saban had specifically, vocally griped (or from the Auburn perspective, "whined") about the Tigers enjoying an off week before the Iron Bowl. (The Tide also countered in 2010 by scheduling first-year FCS program Georgia State for the week before, and moving the game to Thursday night ... giving them the closest thing to a bye without actually having one.) "If Alabama wanted the change, and Auburn didn't, why is the league taking their side?" is how the orange-and-blue argument will certainly go.

But there's also little doubt that something had to be done about Alabama's bye-week problem -- it didn't hurt their case that all three of their 2010 losses came to teams that had enjoyed the extra week of preparation -- and of the six teams that asked for a pre-Tide bye in 2010, clearly only a couple would get the same indulgence in 2011. The SEC decided Auburn wasn't one of those teams. In the end, there's not that much room for complaint, particularly since both teams (who'll square off against FCS competition the week before) will still enter the 2011 Iron Bowl on equal footing.

It's Auburn and Alabama, though. Whether it's fans, head coaches, administrators, whoever: there's going to be complaining.

Auburn plays nice with Tide on scheduling issue

Nothing new here - Nick Saban whining & the Tide fans looking for excuses as to why they lost to Auburn.

Sounds like the game against Georgia State last year was "too mentally exhausting" for the tide 10 days before the Iron Bowl - LOL!!!

One thing I can guarantee is that Chizik won't be crying to the SEC about playing Samford before the Iron Bowl because Chizik does not squat when he pees (unlike Saban).  Seriously, it's Samford!!!!!  Not really a college football powerhouse & nor is Georgia State, no matter how hard Saban and the tide faithfuls want to dress it up.

Honestly, I'd like to see the tide play Louisana-Monroe again before the Iron Bowl.

Question to all of the Bammers:  If the tide get beat again by Lousiana-Monroe AGAIN before the Iron Bowl, would Saban compare the loss to the bombing of Pearl Harbor & the 9/11 terrorist attacks AGAIN?  (I would bet that he would.  Also, if you didn't know that about Saban - google it.  The dude actually compared the tide losing to LA-Monroe to the bombing of Pearl Harbor & the 9/11 terrorist attacks)

Like I said earlier: Nothing new here - Nick Saban whining & the Tide fans looking for excuses as to why they lost to Auburn.

Bammers - Keep on crying or growing your mullets or whatever it is you do in the offseason.  Just stop w/ the excuses.

WDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Auburn plays nice with Tide on scheduling issue

Is the proud Crimson Tide crying about getting beat by teams that had a Bye week before they played them?  What did they think the Thursday night game against GA State was before they played Auburn?  I think their starters played half of the 1st quarter in that one, so they essentially had nearly two weeks off before the Iron Bowl.  What will they want next?  The Iron Bowl to be moved back to Birmingham (Legion Field) and the tickets split 60/40 like the old days?  Sorry, but The Bear is the only one that could possibly make that happen, not Saban.

A few years back I remember hearing a gator fan complaining that the Georgia Bulldogs were taking an extra week to prepare for the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party". Try playing seven games in a row, as Alabama did this past season, against teams enjoying that extra week. I don’t think any of us can imagine how physically and mentally draining that was to the Bama players. It was absolutely inexcusable that the SEC office allow this to happen. I think by forcing Auburn (not Auburn playing nice) to give up their pre-Tide bye is pathetic attempt to right a wrong. Perhaps the SEC office is finally growing a set.

For the record, 2010 was not an anomaly. In 2007 6 teams, 2008 4 teams, and 2009 3 teams enjoyed a per-Tide bye. I believe even the Bear would have been a little ticked at this trend.

As far as Auburn’s schedule the toughness because they played 11 games in row? The last four years they choose (not forced) the next to last week as their bye week. If there was any justice, it would have cost them the national championship. Based on opponents and home versus away games, Auburn had the easiest 2010 schedule in the SEC.

Auburn plays nice with Tide on scheduling issue

Go recruit some more illegal aliens and have them commit to Auburn and then switch to Alabama in order to draw attention to your school.

Dont be bitter. Not all players can be bought the way Cam was. Everyone knows the NCAA will come down on Auburn eventually. Why would a recruit want to get involved with that.

Auburn manipulates schedule for Samford - nice?

This whole nonsense of the Barners being somehow "nice" and thoughtful by moving UGA before their play of Samford is a real crock.  They're in reality and truth giving themselves breathing time between UGA and Bama.  Why?  They can't take the pressure between these two games as scheduled.  This:

"For the first time since 1963, the Tigers won't play Georgia and Alabama in back-to-back games; Auburn slipped in Samford to split them up."

This is the brown warweagles' supposed to be playing nice???  (And I specifiy brown eagle because that is one of their many mascots, and last year they abused the American Bald eagle in that place, and to be true to its name the wareagle is all brown! - clearly everything they do creates bad electrodes in the brain!)  They're taking care of themselves, because they're afraid of UGA with all this "Dream Team" publicity of Georgia's (more hype).  Oh and BTW this doesn't addres the magnificance of AU's bye week scheduling.  Why doesn't  the SEC take a more interested stance in all the teams that schedule a "bye" week before Bama?  Is this prevalent with other teams consistantly?  The barners aren't being at all nice, umho, here, there taking the heat off themselves!  I haven't seen finalized schedules for the SEC, but don't try to pass this off as some sort of magnificant action on the part of the barners.  What a joke!

Auburn plays nice with Tide on scheduling issue

One of the greatest football teams that have ever existed is nothing more than a crying, whinning B____. Gene S. would have not whinned about off days. Paul B. would not have either. He would have challenged his team and kicked everyone's butt. But Nick Satan is all about Nick Satan. If he does not win it all, it is someone else's fault. I hope you know, bamers, that the whole world is laughing at you and your silly dictator coach. Go recruit some more illegal aliens and have them commit to Auburn and then switch to Alabama in order to draw attention to your school. You have turned a proud school into the laughing stock of the world.

The Iron Bowl use to be BEFORE THANKSGIVING

Jerry, you for one should know that the reason Auburn had a bye week before the Bama game anyways was because Alabama and SEC forced every SEC to play a game the week before the championship game.

After the 2004 season Bama and the SEC complained b/c AU had a bye week before the championship game. From 1993 to 2006 the Iron Bowl was played before Thanksgiving. Starting in 2007 the SEC forced the move of the iron bowl to the week after thanksgiving. Auburn was bitter so they scheduled a Bye week while UA played Louisiana Monroe the week before Thanksgiving.

The next year bama began to complain about opponents having bye week before their matchups. Go figure.
