TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU put a nice bow on their undefeated season with a victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, but it seems that one victory over the Badgers is enough for the Horned Frogs for now. Apparently UNLV wants out of its season-opening date with Wisconsin on September 3rd, and an unknown third-party then contacted both Wisconsin and TCU with the prospect of the two schools kicking off 2011 against one another.

It was a matchup that Bret Bielema was all to eager to rekindle.

"I was contacted a week and half after the bowl game about the opportunity to play TCU in our opener," Bielema told The Big 1070 in Madison. "It was something that was going to be broadcast and made a big deal, it took me all of about point five seconds to say yes."

Unfortunately for Bielema and the Badgers, TCU wasn't as excited about the idea. Though not because they feared playing Wisconsin. TCU AD Chris Del Conte confirmed that he was contacted about the rematch as well, but turned it down since there would be only one game and it would be played at Wisconsin.

"We already have Baylor for our opening game," Del Conte said. "A team supposedly Wisconsin played last year doesn't want to go back there. A third party was shopping the game around to other teams. I have no interest in playing a one-[time] game."

Considering that TCU has already had its game against Boise State moved to Boise, I can understand why it wouldn't want to add a trip to Wisconsin to its schedule. Those would be two incredibly tough games to start and finish your season with, and if TCU can't get consideration for a national title when it goes undefeated, it isn't going to a BCS game with two losses either.

Though Del Conte did say that he'd make an exception for Ohio State. Seems he's still a bit sore about E. Gordon Gee's "Little Sisters of the Poor" comment.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

wiscgc, by "big boys" did you mean UNLV, Austin Peay, Northern Illinois, South Dakota, ASU, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota etc.  or did you have some other teams in mind?  Wisconsin doesn't happen to play (or Played last year 2010) any of these? You better confer with your boy Gee.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

And you can't tell me that if the shoe were on the other foot (TCU needs to fill a spot for their first game of the season, TCU gets a rematch to a team they just lost to, TCU gets to play at home, Wisconsin has a conflicting previously scheduled rivalry game) that TCU wouldn't jump at the opportunity and Wisconsin wouldn't take that deal in a million years. TCU has been a better program than Wisconsin both in recent times and over the course of history, lets stop acting like they have to go out of their way to accomodate a Wisconsin team that has everything to gain from this matchup.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

Apparently you guys missed the boat on how Baylor is a rivalry game for the fans and TCU is holding up their end of the home and home bargain. In addition LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Virginia, etc. all have no problem getting a game with TCU as part of a home and home series. It's not Wisconsin's fault that UNLV pulled out of the game, and as stated TCU turned it down because there was no return trip to TCU. It has also already been discussed that TCU just beat Wisconsin, has been ranked top 10 at the end of the season 4 of the past 6 years, is currently at number 2 and has been to 12 bowl games in 13 years. If Wisconsin want's a game with a team of that caliber they either need to get in line behind Oklahoma, Texas A&M, LSU, and Arkansas or offer up a better deal than having TCU go on the road for the first game of the year with no return trip.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

Malloman, TCU did not even offer up an alternative to Wisconsin, they just said "waaahhh, we don't want to play you again". Apparently the "we'll play anyone, anytime" boast is just a lot of hot air, and I would love to see them take on OSU, although you know they won't because they know it will destroy their pipe dream of playing for a national championship. The ONLY way TCU will ever get that shot is to play the big boys (and I don't mean Boise State). Winning the Big East will mean nothing without some other impressive wins on your resume.

Wonder what would happen if a team like OSU or Alabama had issued the challenge? No doubt some other lame excuse.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU should change their mascot to the chickens.

Teams like TCU and Boise need to realize that they are beggars, not choosers. If they want to be taken seriously, they will have to accept some away games (neutral games do not count), win them and not get a return trip.

So, TCU embarresses Wisconsin on a neutral field and the vanquised want the Victors to come to their neighborhood for a rematch so the big bad (snicker, snicker) Big Ten team can have a fighting chance?

After a battle, the winner dictates the terms... not the LOSERS! If the cowardly Lion Badgers want a rematch with the Chicken Little ass-kickers, let them come to the henhouse.

This is the whole problem for TCU, they know they can't have too many tough games on their schedule because even one loss means they will not get a BCS bowl bid again. But you know what? Suck it up and take the chance, this beating up on weenie teams and then crying you don't get a chance at the championship is getting old. Grow a pair and take a shot, or just shut up.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU is just plain chicken, especially without Dalton. Time for them to exchange their skirts for pants and grow a pair while they're at it. If you want to be considered among the elite, you need to take some chances and play the big boys during the season, not build your resume on a bunch of "sisters of the poor" schools and then cry when you don't get a shot at the championship.

Actually, I think UCF got screwed by the Big East!  I thought the Big East should expand football to include UCF and ECU.  UCF is surely on the rise and may begin to make some noise.  I now see why you defend TCU though as I think the two programs are very similar.

I agree. It's good to have a little debate. I'm not even a TCU fan actually, just a measly UCF fan, but I can appreciate a team like TCU and a run like that and be impressed with the program. I just hope UCF can model their program after TCU and eventually get that invite to an AQ conference. It is good to see TCU in the Big East. It was long overdue.
